No pepperoni. Bullshiat list.

/pepperoni and salami with provolone on fresh Italian bread

2012-12-13 09:55:13 AM
Sopressata is way too low on that list.

2012-12-13 10:15:06 AM
Roast Beef (the good stuff, not the stuff that comes in a plastic envelope and smells like dog food)
Pickles (Kosher Dills, sliced lengthwise)
Cheese (swiss, mozarella, or smoked gouda)
Fresh Sliced Tomatoes (Roma tomatoes are acceptable if the hydroponic ones taste like cardboard and they probably do)
Roast Beef
Boston Lettuce
More Cheese
Mustard (preferably the stone ground stuff--the chunkier the better)
Mayonnaise (the real stuff, there's no such thing as miracles)

/On sourdough.

What, no chicken roll?

2012-12-13 10:32:52 AM
No Jamón Ibérico?

No Serrano ham?

Americans truly are clueless.

Tongue - best sandwich meat ever

Braunschweiger/Liverwurst - hot mustard, thinly sliced onions on dark rye

Real roast beef - on weck with lots of horseradish

And one of my all-time favorites, chopped liver, wasn't on the list, but then again, it's not really a "luncheon meat". Chopped liver and thinly sliced onions on egg bread is out of this world.

I love both of those, but prosciutto is far more widely available in most grocers/delis.

I've never found Spanish ham outside of the center of a major East Coast city. And even the stuff that makes it here is substandard compared to what you get in Spain. You can get a whole leg mail order, but that's about the only way to get it in the US.

If any of you FARKers make it to Spain, you MUST try this stuff. They serve it sliced thin on a plate all by it's lonesome.

There are a couple of Spanish restaurants here that get some imported. Also, I agree with you about eating it as is, which is another reason I wouldn't consider it "sandwich meat."

Those aren't luncheon meats.

That's like me saying: "No Kobe beef? Americans are clueless."

They made a list of lunch meats not a list of things that taste good.

Damn you. I was going to skip lunch today. Now I need to make a frikkin 6 hour road trip to get weck rolls.

1) Hot pastrami with mustard and pickles

2) Italian cold cut sandwich from a small shop called Giamela's in Burbank, CA. Just mustard, pickle chunks, and tomato chunks with provolone.

3) Leftover Thanksgiving turkey slices/chunks, mustard (just plain French's because I'm simple and classless), (good quality) sharp cheddar cheese, and lots of peperoncinis on a hoagie roll.

4) Salami and provolone with mustard and peperoncinis.

5) BLT

I just made myself so damn hungry.

Taylor Ham, biatches. Also known as 'Pork Roll'

Slice it a bit thick, fry it in a pan, and serve it on seeded rye.

You typically wont find it outside of NJ and NYC.

Le sigh....

It was a Honeymooners reference. Ralph gave his friends what he thought was luncheon meat, Ed said it was the best luncheon meat he's ever had and their friends agreed. When Alice revealed it was actually dog food, Ralph and the others did not take it too well, but Ed took another bite and said that it's STILL the best luncheon meat he's ever had.

Jesus, does nobody watch Nick At Nite anymore?

My dad, God rest his soul, loved beef tongue and would order a tongue sandwich when he found himself in a deli that offered it.

I could never bring myself to try it. For all I know, it's delicious. But I just can't do it.

Tongue is #6? I refuse to eat anything that can taste me back. And I've never even heard of 1 or 2.

Give me plain old turkey, ham or roast beef. Oh and the lack of bacon, as in a BLT makes this list a total fail!

Back in the day when we were starving grad students, we ate too many sandwiches with bologna or tongue for me to consider either of them in the top 250....

There's nothing like a bologna sandwich that has been sitting in your truck all morning ...mmm....slimey.

Butter one side of 2 slices of wheat bread, cream cheese on the other. Put one slice of bread butter-side down in a pan. Microwave whatever deli turkey, ham, or roast beef you prefer until it is warm, but not overcooked. Put the meat on the bread in the pan, put the other slice of bread on the meat with the butter-side up. Cook over medium-low heat until the bread is golden brown and the cream cheese is beginning to melt. Eat. Nap.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. It's not an everyday product, but it's a long way from just overpriced Hormel.

Do it, in honor of your father if nothing else.

The only reason I don't think of tongue as a lunch meat is because it makes tacos that are so good, you'd slap your mama to get one.

Huh, figured there'd be dog on the list given the wagging reference. Leaving disappointed.

Montreal smoked meat deserves the #1 spot. If you have never had it you are doing yourself a grave disservice.

www.followmefoodie.com

All the best sandwich in the world requires is Montreal rye bread, Montreal smoked meat, and a little mustard.
