comparing nietzsche to rand is an insult to nietzsche. Rand is out of her depth in a kiddie pool, Nietzsche was a sarcastic critic of the status quo and blind obedience to tradition (thought himself fell victim to it sometimes - ex gender roles).

Wow, this is awesome.

So, Ayn Rand was as annoying in online chats as her followers were later?

Wonder how the Randroids will spin this.

This thread would have been a lot funnier if you people could have resisted the urge to point out it wasn't real before it even hit the main board. Even if it is in the Geek tab wasteland.

This actually happened

Sure didn't. And Steve Biko - a poor, South African anti-apartheid activist - didn't participate in one of the other ones posted on the site.

This is an art project.

Fake or not, I always found Rand to be antiphilosophy instead of philosophy, because her ideas are the notions that toddlers already have. Philosophy is the art of thinking thoughts bigger than ourselves, so Ayn Rand is a step backwards toward the savage we all are instead of a step forward into the infinite potential of what we might become.

I am dumbstruck that the developers of ARPANET were so prescient in their realization that Ayn Rand was going to be the turd in the Internet punchbowl, that they went ahead and tested it.

imgod2u: He called it a caricature but his description of what Colbert does -- and more importantly what Colbert actually does -- is by definition argument from absurdity.

It is a fine line, but watch closely. Nothing Colbert says is really out of line with what pundits routinely says.

That is to say, Colbert passes Poe's Law.

No it's not.

Reducto ad absurd= "If two consenting adults should be allowed to get married, then why not incest? If it's about love? Why not polyamory? If what goes on in the bedroom is off limits, then why ban any sexual practice?
Caricature= "Give a Penny/Take a Penny? That's socialism!

You're seeing your view of caricature as absurdity because you want to believe that's what conservatives say. When you've stripped out the logic behind the argument and substituted your own to make an absurdity, then you're caricaturing. You see how easily the people who loathe Ayn Rand believe it's her but those not hostile to Objectivism have disbelief right away? That should tell you how your Poe-ometer is miscalibrated.

My happiness is to thwart every Randian's individualistic goals. I knew a Rand nut once who asked me for a ride into town. I said "I'm sure you'll be happier getting there on your own".
I knew another guy who told me the word "we" should be removed from the dictionary. I told him he should get started on that right away and the rest of us will watch.

I don't feel rebellious for hating on Ayn Rand. I feel pretty good about my disdain, actually. I fact, I'm pretty happy that most people consider her a horrible, hypocritical, probably autisticly devoid of emotion, smelly, bad, bad person.

In fact, usually it's the Rand fans that think they are rebellious. We get it, you're a mid 20s male unappreciated in your profession, even if you excel at it. We get it, on the off chance you do have a human emotion, you quash it into nothing because its irrelevant to ambition and avarice.

There is a reason that Rand fan stereotype is so pervasive, it's because the age of the fans never goes up. Emotionally stunted mid 20year olds grow up, put away the self centered bullshiat and learn to engage in life and humanity. Or they don't and they end up farking Dominican boys between radio shows.

I wish I could poop on Ayn Rand's corpse. Now THAT is an atlas like galtchievement.

DubyaHater: Christ, I'm glad that woman is dead. What an insufferable pain in the ass. I bet sex was strictly missionary, if at all. Sex probably interfered with her pursuit of personal happiness.

I think she preferred to be raped, if I understand her writing correctly.

This.

At least Nietzsche's idea of a superman was an artist. Rand's idea of one was an arsehole.

JIM HENSON
Thank you its kind of you to say so. Im also a fan of yours and John Lennons music.
SIDNEY NOLAN
Who is your favourite puppet from the line of characters you have created Jim.
YOKO ONO
Thank you. John loves your programmes too.
JIM HENSON
Each character is special for me they represent different aspects of myself. Kermit the frog is perhaps closest to me. An altar ego of sorts.
AYN RAND
What does that say about you.
JIM HENSON
I dont know. I don't think too much about it.
YOKO ONO
My favourite is Big Bird. He is so tall and gentle.
AYN RAND
To be honest I find it to be senseless entertainment. I prefer the celebration of men and what they can achieve.

Ayn Rand wanted a world without Mupppets. No wonder the gop wants to abolish PBS so bad.

How that would go down today:

USER AYN RAND: I am not isolated. I have no contempt for others. Millions of people read my books and find my thoughts inspirational. I hardly spend my time on the sidelines in a trash can grumping.

USER JIM HENSON: Not yet anyway.

USER AYN RAND HAS LOGGED OFF

taurusowner: Ishkur: taurusowner: Eh. Anyone who's actually familiar with Rand can see through a lot of that pretty easily. It clearly reads like it's been written by someone who's just been told what Rand believed, not heard or read her words himself.

Actually, if you watch her old interviews and talk shows (I remember the big hour long one on Donahue) she talks and acts EXACTLY like that.

She hated dissent, was known to start a fit whenever someone disagreed with the self-evident superiority of her logic, and would not want to stick around in a discussion of that format.

But the ideas here are just caricatures of her actual ideas. It's like reading what a Farker thinks Rand believed instead of what she actually believed. You can see a lot of that in this very thread. There's no requirement that one must agree with Rand, but the sheer lack of understanding of what she actually thought is staggering. Caricature is the best description I can think of.

I think Colbert demonstrates fairly well that caricature doesn't always mean inaccurate nor inapplicable.

Jim Henson was too intelligent to use "do you have children?" as an argument.

And Yoko Ono is too stupid to communicate intelligibly.

Sure didn't. And Steve Biko - a poor, South African anti-apartheid activist - didn't participate in one of the other ones posted on the site.

This is an art project.

And not a very well-written one. I don't know about the philosophies of Nolan or Henson, but the lines from Rand and Ono were not believable at all.

In 1976 there were less than 80 public nodes on ARPANET and absolutely nothing that could be considered a "chat" protocol unless you counted serial handshakes.

farking kids these days are too lazy and stupid to even look up information for their own projects. What a waste of time.
