He went on: "The unspeakable truth here is, everybody wants torture on the table," he insisted. "If you ask one person one question, say your child or your spouse was abducted and they had a person in custody and they had the information and time was running out - would you mind if we use every means available to extract information?"

So completely and utterly ignorant of what torture is and does. It saddens me that people actually believe this.

"That's my recipe for life," he explained. "If The New York Times, NPR, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn and Hugo Chavez hate something, then it must be awesome. So I cherish waterboarding. I want to make it our national sport, our national bird. I want to make the waterboard the state flower of Vermont, instead of the Birkenstock.'

If I thought flaying the bad guy alive would prevent an event that would make me very, very sad, I would be all for it. I would expect, however, that our institutions would prevent such an inhuman atrocity from being done on my behalf.

Greg Gutfield is an utter f*cking moran.

This does not come as a surprise to anyone, does it?

I always assumed that people who liked him did so because they like utter f*cking morans.

Right?

I must admit, I would take waterboarding over seeing a five-minute bit from this assclown at the Chucklehut.

Would you expect anything else from a pundit who - by default - claims that pedophilia and buttrape are awesome?

Awesomeboarding? God what a lazy joke. This is the first time I've heard the man's name but it's pretty clear why he's a former comedian.

2012-12-12 09:07:07 PM
The former comedian exclaimed in 2007 that waterboarding "might be torture," but professed to love it "more than life itself" because "people I hate" detest it.

So he's a FORMER comedian, you say? That means he USED to do comedy, but doesn't do it any longer?

Interesting...interesting...

You know what else the NYT, NPR, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, and Hugo Chavez hates? Cancer.

Greg Gutfield: Cancer is awesome.

"Like I always say: Waterboarding? More like awesomeboarding!" Gutfeld exclaimed.

When I went through survival training they taught us that everyone will eventually break under torture. The training was an absolutely unpleasant experience, just to sugarcoat it. Anybody that thinks torture is okay has significant moral shortcomings and delusional tendencies. These pro-torture idiots seem to be from the ranks of internet tough guys and armchair patriots who've never served (I'm talking to you Cheney)

While being tortured, the trick is to give out as little as possible, to give out misinformation as much as possible, to keep them guessing. This idiot sounds like he'd believe the first thing out of his victim's mouth which very likely would be complete BS.

I assume comedy conflicted with his conservative mindset. At least he has enough common sense to realize he isn't a comedian anymore, unlike Dennis Miller.

2012-12-12 09:20:03 PM
And of course I'm sure he'll never actually volunteer to experience it for himself so that he can make an informed decision on whether it's really torture or not. At least Christopher Hitchens had the guts to do it and honestly stated it was torture afterwards.

2012-12-12 09:20:42 PM
I'm tired of people using the argument that "if your family was going to die, wouldn't you want them to do everything possible to stop it?" Well of course genius, but at that state you don't really give a shiat about anything so of course you'd agree to torture.

It's the same deal with the death penalty, yes the loved ones want revenge but our system is not about revenge its about justice.

So rather than teach people the problems with torture, Fox is teaching them that torture is desirable. What a terrible thing for people to be taught. Fox News is like one big declaration of weakness and fear.

I'm going to quote John McCain on this issue, and I consider this the last farking word: 'this isn't about who they are, it's about who we are as a people and as a nation'

Including people who don't know crap and don't have any way to prove what they don't know. They'll also break and talk under torture. Which doesn't really help anyone.

I was waterboarded as an initiation long before 9/11. Properly applied it can give you control over the fight-or-flight response and keep you level.

Which is why I've thought it was stupid to use as torture. Solitary with a spooky sound track and a little LSD in the gruel would pull real info out of people.

There's a mindset out there that equates Hollywood scripts with reality. In Hollywood you can catch someone that you KNOW is a terrorist with intel about a plot going down in the next 24 hours, but you still know nothing about the plot itself.

That makes me SO WET

Great book on the topic of interrogation: the Black Banners by Ali Soufan. He was the FBI interrogator who got a lot of intel about Al Qaeda operations going all the way back to USS Cole.

That argument always pisses me off. OF COURSE everyone, under those conditions, would agree to torture the kidnapper to death to get the information. Just like OF COURSE if it was your child who had been murdered horribly to death you'd want the killer to be slowly roasted to death. That's the point.

We don't allow people who are emotionally invested in the situation to make those kinds of decisions for that very reason--because they are emotionally invested in the decision and they'd be deciding with their heart in the heat of the moment instead of making a rational decision in everyone's best interest. "You've got my child?!? I'm going to skin you alive starting with your toes and dip you into boiling vinegar!!!" --Uh, that probably won't help us find your child, sir. "I DON'T F*CKING CARE YOU ASSHOLE I WANT MY KID BACK!!!"

Doing something because other people hate it isn't really a good basis for foreign policy, you know?

Killing people has long been more socially acceptable than torturing people. Even outside the context of war, quasi-war, and military actions, simple murderers are generally not as looked down upon as those that torture their victims.

Pretty sure that would be an environment where I would tell them a bunch of stuff they didn't even need to know, just saying.
