Loki-L: Shouldn't American conservatives be all for that?

Isn't American football rather communistic compared to real football? What with the draft to make things 'fair' and no real chance of failure for losing teams by being relegated. It all sounds very much like something a true conservative should be appaled by.

Don't forget the salary cap, the way that "running up the score" is frowned upon, and the centralised control.

The NFL is socialism writ large.

I think the first government intervention into football was by TR, and it was because college football players kept dying on the field one year (maybe like a half dozen players when there were much fewer players).

Compared to that era, football has gotten safer.

Try a game with intense physical aggression and necessary endurance, but with only a required mouth guard.

Teknowaffle: Good, lets get rid of yet another divisive part of the human landscape that not only breeds tribalistic rivalries that we as a species should have outgrown hundreds of years ago, but also makes the rich richer on the public dime as cities bankrupt themselves to build monuments to violence and showmanship, and we can put the money blown on high school football to what matters, education.
