10. Tim Thomas

Tim Thomas? Seriously?

His own teammates hate this guy.

1. The national anthem at the United Center in Chicago

I'd miss the national anthem at any sporting event like I miss my hemorrhoids.

That goes double for "God Bless America".

Singing the National Anthem before games I can at least accept. It's a shame it gets butchered more often than not. God Bless America, on the other hand, needs to be retired from at least baseball for a while. It doesn't need to be played every single game. We get it, you like America. I like America, too. That's why we have the National Anthem before the game.

It's the equivalent of a sportswriter writing an article during the '94 baseball strike and saying one of the things he misses most about the league is Albert Belle.

This. I'm no jingoistic "America, Fark Yeah!" teabagger, but every time I go to the UC for a game, being late and missing this is NOT an option. Hell, I even turn up the TV extra loud for it whenever they televise it. It's a "must-experience-once" thing for any true hockey fan, and if you don't have goose-bumps the size of a 13-year olds face pimples by the time it's finished, you've completely lost your humanity.

8. The playoffs

Holy shiat, why isn't this numbers 1 & 2?

2012-12-12 12:50:37 PM
3. HBO's "24/7: Road to the Winter Classic" reality series

This is probably the most important one on the list. Mostly because a few more years of strong ratings for 24/7 and the Winter Classic and the NHL would finally have a reason to scrap the All Star game.

NHL playoff overtime is the greatest spectacle in all of professional sport.

As Bob McCown says "in no other sport does overtime work as perfectly as it does in the NHL".

It shouldn't even be on the list at all.

It's December, not April. We haven't yet missed a single playoff game. Assuming the two sides pull their heads out of their asses in time to get a shortened season in, we'll still be getting a full-length, two-month, four-round Stanley Cup playoff.

That's well-put, thanks. It really is incredible, it's a celebration of hockey and the freedom to be as f*cking loud as possible.

That article made me sad, especially missing our annual Blackhawks/Blues game.

Re: Tim Thomas... Eh, he's got a right to his opinion even though I completely disagree with him. I think he acted very selfishly making the visit with Obama about him and his opinions instead of about the team.

He played like a beast in 2011 Cup Finals. Can't take that away from him no matter how retarded his political opinions are.

I shouldn't be too hard on Thomas. While I think his publicity stunt was totally retarded, I have to remind myself that he played an absolutely instrumental role of denying the Vancouver Canucks a Stanley Cup.

That makes damn near anything he does completely forgivable.

My wife watched the Road to the Winter Classic on HBO last year. For the first time in her life she cared about hockey afterwords.

Tonight we are going to go to an ECHL game to try and make up for the loss of NHL

Oh, I agree... Like I said, Thomas played like a beast. Can't take that away from him... And while I think watching the Bruins beat the Habs or the Flyers is far more satisfying, watching the boys hoist the Cup in the 'Nucks' barn was extremely satisfying.

I'm sure plenty of 'Nucks' fan feel the the same way about the 2011 Bruins, but there wasn't one damned player on that 'Nucks roster I liked.

The Vancouver Canucks have been one of my mortal enemies since Pavel Bure's Game 7 breakaway winner against Calgary in 1994.

Kesler, Bieksa, Burrows, Luongo, the twins, Raymond, Lapierre, the list goes on an on of the pieces of sh*t who play on that team.

I don't really have a lot of love for Milan Lucic, but his stunt with the finger waving was one of the funniest on-ice moments I have ever seen.

Our anthem singer in Buffalo should get paid twice as much.

He sings two anthems at every game.
