(Soccerway)   Messi's good, I guess. He's no Godfrey Chitalu, of course. Who's Godfrey Chitalu? Ah, he's just my favorite Zambian footballer. He's kind of obscure. You've probably never heard of him   (soccerway.com) divider line 19

Unhappy is he to whom the memories of childhoow bring only fear and sadness and goals.

I inadvertently hipstered myself yesterday, and felt like a douche. Inspired by the recent "awesome hot chocolate" thread and recipes, I decided to make some, but go whole hog and make the marshmallows as well. Apparently, brown rice syrup works better than corn for homemade ones, and the only place near me that sold the stuff was whole foods. At checkout, the girl asked "What is this?" and I replied "Apparently it's the best for making homemade marshmallows. It was pretty obscure, and I hadn't heard of it before."

You'll see all your favorite soccer stars. Like Ariaga! Ariaga II! Bariaga! Aruglia! And Pizzoza!

Oh, I never heard of those people.

And they'll all be signing autographs!

Woo hoo!

1972 in Zambia? Not even RSSSF has that season on file. (RSSSF, for the uninitiated, is basically soccer historical stat heaven.)

I hope Mbuto plays. He's the best one-legged forward ever!

For some reason, I have a hunch that the competition level wasn't quite as high for Chitalu...

Yes, my most worthwhile contribution to a soccer thread is a quote from a baseball movie.

//At least someone got/acknowledged the joke.

From what I've read, too many of Chitalu's goals were in friendlies, so Messi is the record holder.

ZoSo_the_Crowe: From what I've read, too many of Chitalu's goals were in friendlies, so Messi is the record holder.

Chart of Chitalu's goals

7 goals in friendlies or exhibitions.
17 goals in a friendly cup called the Chibuku Cup.
9 more that the document says did not count.

So Chitalu only scored 74.

Also, it's the farking Zambian league. My mate scored 120 goals a couple of years back in his Sunday league, does he hold the record? You have to draw the line under the quality at some point. Messi socred his in la Liga, Champion's league and internationals.

Get in line Godfrey, I'm still waiting on them to acknowledge my record of 237 goals in the World Cup.
