He should have better explained why they took retribution on a soup kitchen that didn't take kindly to being broken into and used as a prop. I'm sure the people it feeds will welcome an articulate answer.

Didn't a Farker start a donation drive to make up for all those butthurt Republicans who withdrew their support of this soup kitchen.

So what you're saying is that Paul Ryan was responsible for a $16,000 donation to the Youngstown St Vincent DePaul soup kitchen?

See?! Compassionate conservatism works! SUCK IT LIBS!

Paul Ryan hopes that his wife never finds the blowup doll that he has stashed under a couple of floorboards in the bedroom closet. The blowup doll that bears a remarkable resemblance to Ayn Rand.

Frankly, he's right. Liberals in general have been disturbingly successful in twisting the popular definition of compassion to convince people that conservatives are not compassionate at all: a key tactic in branding conservatives as the villains of the world. Un-twisting that definition will be vital to retaining what power conservatism still has, with an eventual eye toward rebuilding.

Republicans have effectively fooled millions of people with their elaborate dance that says they care about people other than their rich friends. This with the hope that as fewer people are financially able to oppose them, they turn work into wage slavery for more people so they are too busy to vote against them next time. The numbers are against them so they need an elaborate scheme to prevent the poor from voting.

When Republicans plainly explained their beliefs about rape and abortion they were soundly thrashed in elections. When that happens the problem isn't that you said things the wrong way the problem is that your beliefs are wrong and people hate them. Bring you beliefs more in line with reality and you won't have to play word games to get people to vote for you. They will vote for you because they like your beliefs.

"There are 47 per cent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what ... who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... and so my job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives," Romney said.

Feel the compassion.

How about the time that republicans generously funding for school lunches so that poor mothers could feel that inner warmth and joy that comes from knowing they provide for their own children, instead of the soul-sucking despair that accompanies reliance upon others?

All they want to do is make people feel better about themselves, and for their troubles they get called greedy schmucks that want to starve little Jimmie.

Yes... I love that the GOP still thinks they only have a branding and messaging problem.

If only they could wrap their regressive, mean-spirited, bigoted, anti-intellectual crap in a prettier package everything will be just fine.

Keep on telling yourselves that, assholes.

You've ample demonstrated there isn't ounce of compassion (or common sense) among the lot of you Republican assholes.

Jesus tittyfarking Christ on a frozen Thin Mint in August

How many more stories about the Rubio/Ryan "new future of the GOP" remarks at the Jack Kemp dinner do we need? We get it, they're going to have to "message" better; they don't realize that it's not the packaging we don't like, it's the product.

Do we need 9 more stories breathlessly coronating Marco Rubio as the Future of the GOP's Immigration Policy?
Do we need 9 more stories detailing the differences between Campaign Ryan and Jack Kemp dinner Ryan?
Do we need 9 more stories about how nothing is ideologically shifting or realigning in the party, it's just rearranging the deck chairs on the GOP's Failtanic?

subby has it right. the theme has been, e.g., "romney didn't express himself well with the 47% comment" etc etc. the problem is that he was vicious and wrong with his perfectly articulated 47% comment. but of course it's just a matter of how you sell it

yes, you see..if only the people understood that the GOP is busting unions, cutting taxes for the wealthy, gutting aid programs for the poor, trying to ban abortions even in the case of rape, and calling half the country moochers for the good of the people.

What they're saying is that anyone who didn't vote for them is a lazy, shiftless leach. But the key is to not say that as much from now on. Except when they say that?

They're totally going to stop saying that about the lazy Americans soon. Seriously, they can stop anytime they want if those "takers" would just let them. When those living off the sweat of the real Americans stop harassing them about language, they'll totally stop the name calling.

The right in this country has a deep compassion for a lot of things. Unborn children, the very wealthy, the sorta wealthy, the Cayman islands, plastic baby jesus.

Sure, everybody and everything else can just fark off and die as far as they're concerned, and they actively hate and attempt to punish women, minorities and the poor for being woman, minorities, or poor (and god [but not plastic baby jesus god] help you if you're a poor minority woman), but that doesn't mean they aren't technically still "compassionate".

/ also, you pointing out the right's lack of compassion means you're actually the one who isn't compassionate

And from what we hear from Mourdock and Akin, they're angry that we only focused on their abortion and misogyny derp, and not all the other derp that would have made the unpalatable to all but the most vile of humans.

It's a fair argument. There were many reasons they sucked and we focused on the obvious.

You are correct. Liberals are responsible for presenting the unfair impression that conservatives wish to deny same-sex couples the same legal benefits as married opposite-sex couples and that conservatives wish to force victims of rape to carry the offspring of their rapists to term.
