(Washington Post)   Karl Rove would like you to know that he did not keep one penny of the $300 million in fail spent by American Crossroads. He was just a volunteer, damnit, like that time Paul Ryan scrubbed pots in a soup kitchen   (washingtonpost.com) divider line 73

It's tough to do something out of goodness of your heart when you don't have one

2012-12-12 10:31:12 AM
His election night freak-out was classic. One for the ages.

2012-12-12 10:31:16 AM
Wow, now I'm even more suspicious. Now way would he 'volunteer' for this unless he was funneling money to an offshore account.

2012-12-12 10:32:29 AM
Unlimited money from anonymous donors. What could possibly go wrong?

2012-12-12 10:32:44 AM
Karl Rove should be frozen and used to club Dick Cheney to death, assuming "death" is something that can still happen to Dick Cheney.

2012-12-12 10:33:17 AM
And as Colbert pointed out, we would never know even if he did.

2012-12-12 10:33:36 AM
That's all fine and good. But whether it went into his pocket or not, it didn't do anything it was intended to do. And if I were a wealthy Republican, I'd be very hesitant to waste any further money on him and his schemes in the future.

2012-12-12 10:34:00 AM
I'd like to hear his comments on the anonymous scandal..

Pretty sure this guy tried to scam the election (again)..

2012-12-12 10:34:10 AM
So nobody at all benefited from that $300 million?

2012-12-12 10:34:32 AM
Well, I'm sure his donors all got nice T-shirts, membership cards, and secret decoder rings...

Can't these super-pacs donate this money to feed the hungry or help the homeless? So many good charities who need cash badly now.

2012-12-12 10:37:58 AM
Of course he didn't take a penny of the funds..

It's nobody's business how much money anyone makes. That is between you and your employer, or yourself if you own your own business.

The candidates they supported all lost. We all benefited.

Meh; there's a lot of Super PACing going on on both sides. All of that unregulated spending really helped the economy. I wonder, how much money did the politicians made on the deal?

/ Colbert proved on national television that it could be done and done easily.

I like this tidbit:

As a tax-exempt organization subject to Section 527 of the tax code, the Super PAC [American Crossroads] is required to disclose its funding and its salaries, but a spin-off 501 (c)(4) nonprofit group known as Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (Crossroads GPS) does not have to disclose donor information.

So donor funds are funneled to the Super PAC through a nonprofit entity created expressly for the Super PAC in order to hide the names of those who contribute. Way to be a bunch of cowards!

The guy definitely skimmed.

Let them get jobs from the job creators who aren't hiring because they have no money because they spent all their money they don't have because of Obama trying to defeat Obama.

Republican logic maps out like a Jackson Pollock piece.

As did Osama and Saddam, though that one was based more on religious differences than on "I want to kill them with guns and economics!"/"Well, I want to kill them with economics and bombs!"

And there's a lot of hatred/mistrust all over the MidEast - the Saudis hate the Iranians, the Turks hate the Kurds, the Iraqis hate the Kurds, the Kurds hate the Syrians, the West Bank Palestinians hate the Gazan Palestinians, Egyptians hate Jordanians, and everyone hates the Israelis.

Not traditional "death" exactly, because he's not exactly alive. I see him as being sort of like Voldemort, where you need to find and destroy the scattered pieces of his soul first.

Probably trolling, but I'll respond.

If you're contributing funds to an organization whose sole purpose is to influence the outcome of the presidential election in favor of a particular party, then disclosure requirements for your contribution should be identical to those of the party the organization is behind.

Anonymity is a good thing in many circumstances, but definitely not in this case.

I believe this to the core of my being. People may not like Karl Rove or Dick Cheney but those are two razor-sharp motherf*ckers.

Jake Havechek: His election night freak-out was classic. One for the ages.

That, to me, could support the "I'm doing this gratis" angle. He puts in the legwork for his party, knowing that this is an investment in his consulting service's reputation and future business. When he realized that he not only called in every favor he had in his rolodex, but also didn't even get a stipend while he basically tanked his reputation on a national scale, he had to lose his mind. $300M of good faith in Rove's abilities vaporized as the results came in.

He put EVERYTHING on Romney and the other losing candidates he backed. I'd f*cking lose my mind, too.

You know who didn't draw a salary for his time as commander of the armies during the Revolution?

upload.wikimedia.org

He only worked for expenses, and came out handsomely ahead of where he'd have been had he taken
the pay they'd offered.

By the time he became president, the Congress forced him to take a fixed salary to save the country
money.

The money didn't help the economy greatly. Unlike purchase of consumer goods, little of money spent by PACs is stimulative. Media giants pocket most for doling out airspace, some goes to "personalities" (who typically make solid six figures and so have spending mostly in ownership, gentrification, and other nonstimulative investments), and very little goes to people who make little enough to be expected stimulative purchasing.

Meanwhile Obama is arming Al-Queda to wage war on the entire Middle East, raising taxes on anything that moves, is dediated to destroying our economy, kills babies with happy abandon, has taken away health care for the elderly and infirm, licensed hospitals and doctors to deny you medical help, ruined the entire Green Industry just be being associated with it, given away trillions of borrowed dollars to his crony banks and says FU to anyone who doubts his divinity, oh, and he sh*ts demons.

It's very simple..He wasn't paid by the campaign. The money went to HIS consulting company that
was conveniently hired by the campaign..That way he's not lying. It's weasel wording. Just like the
rest of the lobbying and political "think tanks". It's shell game accounting where the money gets
conveniently in the right hands. It's the same game a lot of these creeps play with government
contracts. They money gets shifted around through shell companies that are held off shore
but eventually end up as a dividend or a board member compensation on someone. That way there
is lots of plausible deniability.
