So is Zod going to try to destroy humanity because no one will buy the crappy irons he sells planet to planet?

2012-12-12 09:43:38 AM
Why does anyone complain about a more realistically designed suit/logo?

2012-12-12 09:44:26 AM
I've never been a Superman fan (I lean more towards Batman), but this looks like to could be really good.

It is not small it was cold that day.

So...basically, as an exersize in pageview, what they did was break down the trailer shot by shot and tell you what was in each shot.

WHAT THEY DID NOT DO was something new and interesting and, I dunno, tell us why each shot may be important, or what it indicates about the plot, or even, god forbid, why it's a cool shot. (There are some wonderfully cool shots in the trailer.)

As much as I look forward to this flick, I hate things like this.

What does he shave with?

garraty: What does he shave with?

Man, I'd love to see that. It would most likely be, as in the comics, his heat vision and a cruved reflective piece of metal. (I forget what it is in the books, it's been a while.)

I wanna know if they plan on explaining how a man-shaped object with no exhaust <insert "super fart" joke here> or wing-shaped structures is going to leave a vapor trail when flying.

It's the cape...or he's going fast enough to superheat the air behind him, causing vapor trails. One of the two.

Lo, I am a herald of the lightning, and a heavy drop out of the cloud: the lightning, however, is the superman.

Pretty sure this was covered in the last discussion thread when the trailer was Boobiesed

Random things that are/were great about Superman in general:

They've made the S on his chest a Kryptonian symbol.
Phone booth quick-change. RIP :(
His disguise is glasses and a hair parting.
Bumbling Clark.
Superman battling low level robbers.
His parents were random chance. If he landed anywhere else and raised wrong the Earth could be screwed.

That would make for some interesting "what if" comic scenarios. What if he'd been found by "tanning mom"?

2012-12-12 10:46:04 AM
Young Clark is frightened by something, which the voiceover indicates is "how big the world is." Hiding in a closet seems like a solid idea.

I'm going to go with a no for that one. Given what his mother's telling him and how he's reacting I'm betting it's just an issue with controlling his powers, aka he's seeing and hearing a lot more than he can control or deal with and it's freaking him out pretty badly. He's not scared, he's simply overloading a bit.

Considering where he gets his powers from, he'd be supercharged all...the...time. Of course, he'd also be lazy and superficial, so it's unlikely he'd help anyone...probably end up on the weight lifting circuit.

Dalek Caan's doomed mistress: He's not scared, he's simply overloading a bit.

Which, for a young kid, could be scary, so I'll give them that one.

And not only that, but the "writers" are farking morons. Some of the limited "what is going on in this scene" speculation is totally wrong if you did something like, actually watched the trailer. Young clark hiding with his hands over his ears for instance was clearly because of his super hearing. He can hear way too much from all over the world and it is confusing and frightening. Hence Ma Kent telling him to focus on the sound of her voice.

Sometimes I really like io9, sometimes I'm pretty sure they hire complete idiots.

The movie looks pretty good. At least looks like it's trying something different which is cool.

However the logo looks so beyond retarded. Honestly, how did they not laugh the designer out of the meeting when that was revealed? I hate to be one of "those" guys, but that logo alone is something I'm not sure I'll be able to get past. They changed one of the most iconic symbols of all time. And not for the better like Batman. It looks like Shrek now. Moronic.

Why don't you just put him in a bottle?

"Maybe....you need to decide the type of man you want to be."

Jesus...what's up with people on the Internet and the awful combination of not catching subtlety and having knee-jerk reactions? And mind you, not because of you. I just saw an io9 article whining about it.

The point of the scene is that Clark is faced with the notion of using his powers for good vs losing his life as he knows it. Pa Kent can't force him to make a decision but he can guide Clark so he can choose what he wants.

That was the best part, imho.

There was also Justice League: The Nail, where the Justice League has no Superman, Jimmy Olsen gets Kryptonian powers and becomes evil, finally meeting a Clark who instead landed in the field of an Amish family. He then realizes his destiny and becomes Superman.

Sorry for the spoilers; it was contrived but entertaining, nowhere near as awesome as Red Son.

Meh, I see what you're getting at, but it's been more or less the same for like 40 years. That's long enough to cement it.

That and the new one just looks so, over the top awful. If it was better you could say ok I get it. But the one they made is just blechh.

If people can be judged by what they like, Millar fans shouldn't be a big threat. They would just posture all violently, then leave abruptly in the middle of it, wandering around aimlessly. I'm more afraid of Liefeld fans, who got lots of guns, possibly in pouches. And are quite unbalanced.

/...and strangely enough not mythical

Because Liefeld can't draw feet?

Anyway, the guns don't matter, when your anatomy is twisted beyond the breaking point, or...well...this:

You know, I will probably see this, but if Hollywood is going to do another superhero themed movie, how about the "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay"?

Because that's less aobut superheros, and more about the creators, their lives, public and private, WWI and homosexuality at a time when it was, shall we say, looked down upon?

But he didn't. And that's what we got. Any other artist would have said, ya know what? This isn't right, lemme start over. With Liefeld, it's almost as if he said, "This looks weird...oh, well, good enough." Of course, part of the blame lies with the editors who didn't tell him that it looks like ass covered ass in an ass jar.
