$40M on one position is a bargain.

Don't worry. We'll treat him better for one year than the Red Sox ever did.

One of the few players to have such an awkward batting stance, I'm uncomfortable watching him at the plate. He can work the count like a mofo though.

They'll make him shave his beard. So what's even the point?

How can you look at the shot in the arm signing with the Yankees does for one's career and say no, right, Johnny Damon?

2012-12-12 10:07:41 AM
And you think they would have learned from Johnny Damon.

That was my first thought too. Well, after all the suicidal ones.

The Yankees now have more douche at third base than most teams do on their entire roster

The best part about the Youk signing: Watching the crowd at Fenway boo one of their most beloved players of all time, then remembering that Yankee fans gave Tino an entire weekend of standing ovations every time he came to the plate as a Cardinal.

It's funny...youk had always been a fan favorite because of his hustle and hard work (and he's sort of like they guy who makes you go wait, he's a ball player? In the pros??? I'm in better shape than him...and OMG is that his stance???).

Then out of left field Booby V called out Youk in pre-season...something like, "he's not into the game anymore..."

And then the redsox shipped him out mid-season.

Obviously no one knows what goes on behind closed doors, but the whole thing seemed weird.

Sadly, the Yankees don't go to Fenway until after the ASB and A-Rod might be back by then

He got a rather pimped-out participation ribbon that happened to fit on his ring finger with the Yanks. He won a World Series with the Sawks.

Yeah that won't happen. Based on what I know from talking to my colleagues in Boston, the only people who go to games are die hards, who would respect Youk too much to do that, and pink hats, who wouldn't understand what was going on.

I don't think he'll get booed. Damon got cheered when he returned after signing with the Yankees. I don't blame Youk for going where the money was. He didn't get treated right by the Sox management and was traded. I think the fans understand that.

I think A-Rod is going spend the rest of his career making Ken Griffey Jr look invincible. There is no telling what will happen. If he's 100% he's a beast. If not, he's expensive tabloid material.

A-Rod isn't coming back. Mike Lowell had the same hip injuries and his career was done after the second surgery, which is what A-Rod is about to have in January. Even if he does come back, he'll be a DH for the rest of his career.

I hate Youkilis*. If you are at a Yankees game next season and he's introduced and you hear someone yell FARK KEVIN YOUKILIS that will be me. I have been yelling this for years and see no reason to discontinue because he's now on my favorite team. I may also loudly comment that his batting stance resembles a sweaty rhino farking a washing machine.

*My hatred is personal. A few years ago he was an incredible dick to a friend of mine--a Red Sox fan--over a parking space. He even whipped out the "don't you know who the fark I am" card. There are very few people that I wish would DIAF and/or EABOD but he's one of them.

The management made it pretty clear what they thought of him when they traded him and paid nearly all his salary for a AAAA utility type (that they cut a few weeks later) and a batting practice pitcher.

Not surprised that twitter has idiots on it, but you let him go after a bad half of a season. Be angry at your management.

Isn't trader a play on words kind of? Even if unintentional, the player was traded away. Trader comically becomes Traitor? Yeah.... I'm giving them way too much credit.

Satchel Paige? I hear Hank Aaron can still tie his shoes. What about Jamie Moyer? Is Jesse Orosco still available?

What it comes down to is die-hards remember the Sox pre-2004. And they are thankful for the two WS wins. I wouldn't boo Youk, but there are always assholes for every team.

That having been said, there's probably a reason nobody has ever said, "I wish to speak to the brightest, most accepting and erudite people of your area. Where are the fans of your local sports team?"

To be fair, last year was a clusterfark. They had a clubhouse falling apart, and they were trying to cut out elements that weren't working with Valentine. I think they were less worried about cost and more worried about speed. So they ate alot. I don't remember it being particularly nasty like Francona's firing was. So I think he didn't get a bum deal

The problem is, like the Yankees, the people who can buy tickets to Fenway aren't the diehard fans. They are corporate schmucks who care about having the tickets to show off.

The best he can within the budget limits the Steinbrenners have placed on him. Cashman is stuck in the position that all the deals he wants to make are hampered because of the A-Rod deal Hank Steinbrenner made in 2008.
