The British have done this magnificently. The BBC, hardly a hotbed of conservatism, has produced programming vastly better than anything Americans have produced and which is delightfully free of ideological straitjackets. Those of us who have watched series like Last of the Summer Wine, All Creatures Great and Small, Lovejoy Mysteries, All You Being Served?, and Yes, Prime Minister, or series like I, Claudius, know that government bureaucracies like the BBC, when serious about entertaining without preaching, create wonderful programming. It is a testament to these treasures that the viewer cannot guess about the politics of the actors or the producers. The programs deal with the human condition as it truly is.

THE LEFT THE LEFT THE LEFT THE LEFT THE LEFT THE LEFT THE LEFT

My comrades and I, communists, socialists and anarchists all, have more appreciation for art and culture than the whole right wing in aggregate. The pieces of barely-human trash that constitute the right wing, who have brought us such wonders of American culture like Walmart and FNC, wouldn't know culture if the ghost of Diego Rivera turned up in their driveways and beat them to death with a paintbrush.

Articles like this, when you read "American culture," you should just mentally substitute "white pride" and everything makes sense.

These @ssholes lie and deceive, and then blame "the left" for being the problem. Stop reading them. Stop posting their stupid bullshiat on Fark. SUBBY.

Beyond that, imagine if each state supported a documentary revealing neglected areas of history -- what about a serialization of The Gulag Archipelago or the lives of those Americans who betrayed their nation during the Cold War or the American communists who for almost two years fought every effort to resist Hitler?

can't wait to see the documentary about reagan naming names at HUAC

I want to see the list of American communists who fought the effort to resist Hitler: Commies like Henry Ford, Prescott Bush, Joseph Kennedy and the Rockefellers.

FTFA: "overtly preachy leftist cant reinforce the condition that, as a people, we increasingly cannot share wholesome and common entertainment and recreation."

Fox and Fox news cover a lot more T&A than other news channels, though sometimes they do it for "moral" reasons where they can tut-tut about such liberal behavior as drunken beach bikini contests with long clips so viewers can realize how depraved THOSE people are. Other times their message seems to be that thinking or feminist women are bad and women should be only be defined by how "hot" they are. That sure is some wholesome objectivation there. At least their bimbos look really clean and wear the proper level of heavy makeup.

Sure the local organic coop has gossip rags at the checkout, it's a grocery store, but I bet Walmart has a better selection.

Its called the Dunning-Kruger effect . The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. Actual competence may weaken self-confidence, as competent individuals may falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding.

Competent individuals also recognize the scope -- and therefore the complexity -- of their field of expertise and thus recognize that the field of study is not as simple as is assumed by those who are not knowledgeable of it. They therefore have a better understanding of the likelihood of error.

From their actual paper: improving the skills of participants, and thus increasing their metacognitive competence, helped them recognize the limitations of their abilities.

You mean West Wing?

Not quite, since Yes, Minister dealt less with issues and more with procedures and electioneering. West Wing was more of a political mirror of the current issues and policies.

If you want a new Yes, Minister, check out In The Thick Of It

Yes, as long as it's state funde, not federally funded and produced by conservative Republican governors. Because there's no chance that a Democrat could ever replace a Republican as a state Governor and start producing liberal TV programs.
