The BBC, hardly a hotbed of conservatism, has produced programming vastly better than anything Americans have produced and which is delightfully free of ideological straitjackets. Those of us who have watched series like Last of the Summer Wine, All Creatures Great and Small, Lovejoy Mysteries, All You Being Served?, and Yes, Prime Minister, or series like I, Claudius, know that government bureaucracies like the BBC, when serious about entertaining without preaching, create wonderful programming. It is a testament to these treasures that the viewer cannot guess about the politics of the actors or the producers. The programs deal with the human condition as it truly is.

The pieces of barely-human trash that constitute the right wing, who have brought us such wonders of American culture like Walmart and FNC, wouldn't know culture if the ghost of Diego Rivera turned up in their driveways and beat them to death with a paintbrush.

Articles like this, when you read "American culture," you should just mentally substitute "white pride" and everything makes sense.

I wonder if "waiting it out" is going to work for progressives, or if these types of "conservative" people are going to get more aggressive as they die out?

The British Yes, Minister and its successor Yes, Prime Minister series go even farther: these bore deeply and delightfully into the banal and selfish collaboration of politicians with bureaucrats, and all the greedy groups like public employees unions and news organizations. One series like that would expose comfortable, well-perched leftism to the ridicule it deserves.

I seem to remember these shows skewering the Right as much if not more than the Left. Considering the British Conservatives are supporting Gay Marriage, the writer needs to spend more time learning the politics and issues facing the UK and how the press cares not a whiff what side of the fence you are on.

The BBC while "Neutral" is or would be considered quite the activist channel in the US as they tend to portray all facets of life not just what one side wants to see, as the author wishes were true portrayals. If congress got the "Yes Minister" treatment it would be #1 in ratings and #1 on the Rights hit list.

It seems the US pundits fail in realization the rest of the world does not follow them. A good example is Psy, he created a song as a satire of the life in part of Seoul, it took on a life of its own. He was and still is an artist with a social agenda, his participation in earlier works that had anti US sentiment was poorly received here in the US, but when taken in context of his life are justified. Also if it were in the US there would be the rallying cry of Freedom of Speech.

The author of the article also seems to forget the right to free speech when advocating for more government control. Some of those most hurt by the slashing of the public broadcasting budget were small stations that broadcast to a mostly right wing base. If the Public broadcasters are leaning left then the right should produce more content for broadcast, it is public after all. Let the market decide.

Not quite, since Yes, Minister dealt less with issues and more with procedures and electioneering. West Wing was more of a political mirror of the current issues and policies.

Other times their message seems to be that thinking or feminist women are bad and women should be only be defined by how "hot" they are. That sure is some wholesome objectivation there. At least their bimbos look really clean and wear the proper level of heavy makeup.
