I don't and really can't follow Cards football closely, but I've heard the argument for trading Fitzgerald away and I kind of have to agree. You're not using him, you have no way to utilize him, he could set records but not for your team within the limit of his career, and you need to rebuild your offense from the ground up. Say Fitz gets you two draft picks (2nd or 1st round maybe, with a 3rd round too) and a proven O lineman. Is that worth it? My gut reaction is no, but that might be because I haven't endured such a team as a fan that had a technically useless but presently legendary player.

No, hes a punk that rode Pittsburgh's organization and media adulation quickly up the career advancement ladder, and now has been exposed. I've seen that in elsewhere. A so called rising young exec starts thinking everything his organization did right was because of him, writes a book, goes to a rival and then .. splat.

A rising tide floats all boats, then you find out it was because there's a tsunami.

Second thought on the Cardinals, from an NFC West resident.

The media hyped Arizona in the fall as this big contender, they're gonna be neck and neck with San Francisco and St Louis all year, the only team we're sure of is Seattle will be last.

Now to cover their ass and hide their miserable failure, the east coast media has to find a scapegoat. The Cardinals aren't bad, its that idiot coach Whisenhunt. Had us all fooled. We would have been right again if it weren't for that Arizona coach being incompetent.

Fact, the Cardinals were going to be bad this year, pretty much everyone saw it once they named Skelton. Everyone out here I talk to or read knew Seattle's defense was going to let them be in every game and be able to pull out some upsets. We were perplexed why national media thought we'd be so bad, but then we just sat back to enjoy the fun. But we're a long way from ESPN's headquarters so we tend to get drowned out. Plus, the same thing that happens when Republicans all talk to only Republicans, happens a LOT with the east coast media. They talk themselves up into a cone of certainty that ignores facts from south alaska quite often.

So Mike Martz is a great coach, too, then? After all, he also rode Warner to a Super Bowl loss.

Imagine 2 hypothetical coaches- Generic Coach A and Generic Coach B. Both coaches take their franchise to the playoffs. Coach A is in charge of either the Packers or Steelers. Coach B is the head man of the Bills, Cardinals, or Browns.

Which coach did a better job with the franchise he had?

I know Foreman just rode House's coattails to become the Dean of Medicine, but you have to admit that doing it while coaching an NFL team is quite an accomplishment, otherwise you just sound bitter.

Coach B caught the luckiest string of breaks ever - he got there right after the push to get a new stadium and when they got the new stadium, where the franchise had actually spent money and pretended to give a sh*t for a while. He had a decent line and Warner, Fitzgerald, and Boldin on his offense. It's easy to have a good offense when you have two GREAT WRs and a HoF QB.

In the playoffs, they got the 5-seed Falcons at home, Delhomme's Bad Day, then the 6-seed Eagles at home. You couldn't get a more ideal road to the Super Bowl.

Kevin Kolb is a garbage quarterback. Any one of the 4-6 million people in the Philadelphia area would have told you this if you just asked.

That's the exact same argument that leads people to think that Bret Bielema was a bad coach. He got the Badgers to 2* straight Rose Bowls, but didn't win. People who think he was an ok/good coach say look at where he got the Badgers. People who think he was a bad coach look at him and say he could win the Rose Bowl and he had 2 of the most talented teams in Badgers' history, but couldn't get them to the BCS Champ game.

Many people just judge coaching based on the team's finish relative to their own personal expectations for the team, rather than any objective criteria. For more of the same see any discussion of the Tampa Bay Super Bowl win.

If Az gets an o line and decent qb they will be good. They have the worst line in the league. Believe Kolb averaged 2.3 seconds before pocket collapse. No qb can do well under constant pressure like that.

Trading Fitz would be a terrible idea. Draft line and the offense improves.

Forgot my *- No, I am not counting Ohio State and Penn State being banned from bowl games as a positive for Bielema. Maybe if they had beaten either team, I would be more inclined, but finishing 3rd and getting into the title game is not to his credit.

False. Kolb had 2.85 seconds per snap- 7th most in the league. He had only 2.3 s WHEN SACKED, which is a really biased stat. Basically, he didn't know how to get rid of the ball with pressure, thus took way too many sacks. No coverage sacks. He's decent with time, but now all defenses know to pressure him, since he gets sacked in 30% of pressures. That, my friend, is why Kolb sucks.

Ok, maybe I'm not understanding something, but the 2.3s clearly shows your o-line doesn't give enough time. Basically, if no pressure is brought you get a healthy amount of time. But, when it is brought, you get nothing. If you have a good o-line, then even with pressure, you still should have a ton of time.
