TypoFlyspray: Donna Summers and Public Enemy over Deep Purple? fark that shiat.

Establishment to be Reamed Not Actually Much to Do with Rock And Roll Hall of Critic Validation.

I mean, Blue Öyster Cult isn't there. Never Even Been Nominated so far as I can tell. And they've been doing their thing for 40 years. You don't have a Rock and Roll anything if you don't have Blue Öyster Cult.

No KISS. I don't like their politics either, but their stage presence alone should have earned them a place over any Rap or Disco act.

No Weird Al? Clearly someone is taking themselves far too seriously. Forchristsakes, people, you're in godsdamned Cleveland. You'd have to move to Peoria to be Less Rock and Roll.

No IRON MAIDEN? Seriously? I was kidding about BÖC (some) but to have a place that honors Legendary Rock and Roll acts that doesn't include Iron Maiden is to have a hall of Deserts with no Sand. It's the Man of the Year, Eunuch division.

No Stevie Ray Vaughn. No Warren Zevon? I mean, say what you like about Journey as music for women to sing poorly while drunk, but on a technical level, they surely belong in there before any Rap or Pop group. Devo? Peter Gabriel, Jethro Tull, Yes? I get it, Critics hate Prog Rock. fark Critics. They suck.

This isn't a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's a Music Critic Hall of Wanking.

I had not realized SRV hadn't been inducted. Donna Summer before SRV? WTF!?

But hey, Randy Newman made it this year. So there's that. When I think rock and roll, I think Randy Newman's soundtrack for Toy Story.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: JULY 4, 1970 THE FIRST AMERICAN TOP 40 COUNTDOWN

Man, that's a lot of shiat. A couple of good songs, maybe one that might be credibly called rock (Mississippi Queen) and about 30 pieces of crap.

2012-12-11 05:43:09 PM
I like Warren Zevon and Weird Al but are they really HOF worthy? If the HOF was a reputable establishment. Weird Al? Come on.

All three songs had the same guy, Tony Burrows, on lead or shared vocals.

I grant the musical importance of Donna Summer, PE, and Randy Newman BUT doesn't expanding induction to essentially all musicians make the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame really just the Popular Music Hall of Fame?

It's amazing to see the variety on that list. It has rock, pop, easy listening, soul, folk, country, etc. Todays list is a lot narrower in scope.

For a long long time, heavy metal was considered beneath serious musical criticism - that's starting to change now so you can expect those bands to get in in the next few years.

Maiden and Priest sat least. Not holding my breath for the others (more fun to list the guys that should be in there but have no shot).

If Kiss gets in for "their stage act alone" then GWAR should too, right?

1. you're acting like residents of Cleveland are the ones who vote, rather than some New York suits.
2. Cleveland IS very Rock N Roll.... I'd say the 3 top radio stations for the past 50 years are all Rock or Rock N Roll based.

Obviously not, if you think that they cared enough about this sham to "fellate" anyone. They don't give two squirts about the RRHOF.

Randy Newman has never "rocked" a day in his musically un-interesting life...I don't care how many songs he has written...

and Aerosmith is already in the "Hall of Fame" and yet Cheap Trick is still not mentioned?

was allready to get upset, then I realized... fark Cleveland.

2012-12-11 06:28:48 PM
What's the bigger joke, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or the Nobel Peace Prize.

I fully expect Kissinger to get in the Hall next year, and Tupac to win the peace prize.

/farking joke both of them...if I were RUSH, then I'd tell them to go F themselves. I have more to say...but won't.

2012-12-11 06:30:44 PM
Now that Rush is in...time to get another one in so wrongly ignored:

Paul Anka

How can you keep out the man who wrote two of the most heard songs for decades: "My Way" and "Johnny Carson Tonight Show Theme"

Are people still POed with Anka over "Having My Baby"?

I love Donna Summer, but "Rock 'n Roll"?

2012-12-11 06:53:29 PM

The chances that Jello and East Bay Ray would start a fist fight at the induction is probably what's keeping them out.

RnRHOF is becoming the place to come and get all your pop pablum in one stop. Sure it's ridiculed but still, even the ads are becoming increasingly pop oriented. No wonder musical people like Brant Bjork wont get there but any talentless hack will.

2012-12-11 06:56:10 PM

Insatiable Jesus: Rush fan and musician here. Like all musicians I know, don't give a single crap about whether or not Rush is in the RRHOF.

Here's to hoping they don't show up for it and shatter the illusion of integrity.

I disagree, I think they deserve a show of hands...

2012-12-11 06:56:30 PM
My reaction: About damn time, about damn time, good call, jann wenner wut r u doin, jann wenner stahp, and whoa another good call. The Rush, Heart, P.E., and Albert King jams are gonna rock next April, I'm looking forward to it.

T.rex: 1. you're acting like residents of Cleveland are the ones who vote, rather than some New York suits

If Clevelanders got to vote, Michael Stanley would've been in on the first ballot.

Congratulations to Heart! Just saw them in August and they are still amazing. Would love to see Cheap Trick make it in next

Then again, so would've Rush. Where'd you think they got their first big break?

2012-12-11 07:01:09 PM
I just want Randy Newman to write an acceptance song about how this is merely a meaningless Jann Wenner stroke-a-thon.

In a perfect world, Kim Mitchell.

It'll probably someone like Dave Grohl - popular, obvious and acknowledged influence by the band, entertaining when the music stops.

I liked Donna Summer when she was alive, but she was not a rock artist. She was disco. Also, why wait until she's dead to honor her?
