Who doesn't know that exposing the soles of your feet is considered an insult in most of the Muslim world?

Protesters threw their shoes at leaders, or used the heels to smash images of them, during the wave of Arab spring revolutions over the past two years.

I wonder if they keep old shoes for the purpose of throwing those shoes at protests. It would be pretty stupid to throw your new Air Jordans into a crowd every time you get enraged about something.

It seems like a good diplomat could look at a situation and say "Gee, that person didn't grow up in my culture. We're no better. As a matter of fact, we can get much, much more immature over the pettiest of things.
