Is there going to be a league in 2015 when the Islanders move to Brooklyn? If so, will they actually be playing? Because that's really all I care about at this point.

If there's a league, they'll be playing. The next lockout is tentatively scheduled for 2019-2020 or so.

My concern is that they might be holding talks in Dick Cheney's undisclosed location.

This one has to end first. No guarantee it won't extend to next season.

PowerSlacker: Just end the season league.

Start all over again, from scratch - new teams, new ownership, new cities (maybe some in Canada this time, eh?)...I'd say "new players", but I highly doubt they're the real issue. You also don't want to lop off the top 20% in the world's talent pool.

Two lost seasons in a decade? Fold up, give your host cities a bunch of money for farking them out of all that revenue so you could build your penis-replacement stadia on the public's dime for the third time in 20 years (all the while threatening to move if they didn't concede to your demands). You clearly suck at running a league, and you should have no part in managing a new one.

Also, enjoy the NOTHING you get this season, owners. Nothing says "Look how greedy a fark I am" that you'd forgo $100 million in revenue because you wanted $101 million.

Look at all the farks I give, that is right none. Cancelled my cable package last Friday, the only reason I kept cable was to see the NHL in HD. Even if they came back tomorrow it is too little too late.

Actually, I grew up in Jersey. Been a proud Marylanderian for 20 years - maybe being so close to the genteel south has worn off on me.

I'm sure Jeremy Jacobs, Ed Snider and Craig Leipold will be there. Owners who actually want a season will be waiting by the phone for an invitation that never comes.

How much proof do we need that Buttman is farking ruining the NHL? He can't be trusted with a mic in his face because he'll fark things up.

Whatever they end up doing financially, I hope they just settle on realignment at the same time and start fresh. Sign a 10 year deal and put away the pacifiers for a while.

Apparently the other owners who were brought in last Wednesday had been kept in the dark. Pretty sad when the players have a much better grasp individually of the negotiations than the billionaire owners. From the NY Times:

Westgarth made $525,000 last season, far less than the $12 million earned by Brad Richards and the $9 million made by Sidney Crosby, who stood alongside him Thursday when Donald Fehr announced that the N.H.L. had rejected the union's latest offer.

But in these negotiations, the contributions of Westgarth and a group of other committed players have been invaluable to the union.

"There are a half-dozen or more players who knew exactly where we were and could detail every aspect of where we were at," Westgarth said, referring to last week's talks. The league brought in four owners to join Jeremy Jacobs of Boston and Murray Edwards of Calgary in the negotiations.

"It became obvious that the guys they brought in had nowhere near a complete understanding of what the proposals were and where we were in the negotiations," Westgarth said. "I thought it was great that Ron Burkle, Larry Tanenbaum, Mark Chipman and Jeff Vinik got involved - clearly they're passionate and care about the game - but it shows how tightly controlled the league is."

The talks broke down last week over the owners' refusal to bargain if Donald Fehr was in the room.

Won't do any good. He's just a sock puppet. It's Jacobs and the other owners with regional TV networks that are running the show.

The NHL owners are being paid by the NFL owners to make them look good I think.

Owners walked out of negotiations because the players union head attended the meeting. Owners are the only people to blame for all of this. They could have just kept the old CBA, instead of opting out.

The NHL owners have always been the worst. The NFL is smart, and knows it doesn't need to pay the NHL owners, they'll look horrible for free. I'm surprised the NFL hasn't found a way to make the NHL owners pay for the privilege of looking so stupid.

Is that the one about the dog with a bone that saw another dog in the water with a bone just like his, and wanted that bone too, so he barked at the other dog and his bone dropped into the water, splash, gone, and then the alligator erupted from the pond and ate him, and his bone too?

Dramatic license. You should hear my riff on Androclus and the Lion.

/I'm thinking that The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs is more apt to the current owner's situation.

In the end, I don't care who wins.

The owners get soaked on salaries, who cares?

The players get clubbed to submission on contracts, that's nice.

I just want hockey on TV.

They're like two children who want cookies that you don't want to give them. Just say to one "OK you can have 1 but your brother gets 2, or you both get nothing." Be surprised how often the answer is "nothing". So...f*ck 'em all. DIAF, NHL.

The funniest thing is... Dolan has been nowhere near this. Why? Because he just wants a season. And he'll concede to get this done.

So will Wang.

It's the idiots who are ruining this.

As a Rangers fan, I will give Wang credit it - he lost SO MUCH FREAKING MONEY because of the Islanders and how Nassau County jerked him around - and in the end, he STILL kept the team local rather than selling it.

That to me says passion. That says dedication. That's why I support Greg Jamison. He WANTS to make it work.

Ding ding ding! And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is the major difference between Atlanta and Phoenix: The Thrashers owners didn't give a fark and made it next to impossible for any new owner to work with them (with arena leases and such). The town of Glendale wanted to work with a new owner and they had not one, not two but THREE ownership groups try to make it work. Jamison was just the first one to make everyone happy.

/Interestingly, some of the members from the 1st group to try and buy the Coyotes are in Jamison's group now.
