factoryconnection: JackieRabbit: But it is not the world's second largest building. It's not even close. Target's import warehouse in Lacey, WA is both in terms of usable space and footprint. ShortList FAIL

Floorspace, Jackie, floorspace. Warehouses are single-story; TFA's monstrosity is many floors, giving a multiplier effect over straight footprint behemoths. Based on sattelite imagery, that warehouse is 128,000 square meters. Long'ao is 370,000 mostly because it looks to have at least 17 floors.

Tsar_Bomba1: Looks empty...

Look at the GMaps link; the parking lot is full. The big lot next to it (for the stadium perhaps) is empty though.

I looked this up. In terms of floor space, this building doesn't even make the top 40 list. The world's largest in terms of floor space is Abraj Al Bait Tower (1,500,000 m² ). Second largest is Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 (11,185,000 m² ). Long'ao is smaller than the Chicago Merchandise Mart, which has 372,000 m2 of floor space.

China built a very big large gray box, instead of their usual regular-sized large gray box buildings.

yay

Betting there will be a "useless" addition built on very soon.

I found it on GoogleMaps. Those are full-sized sports stadia next to it.

Hah! It looks solid from the outside, but is hollow in the middle! Like so much other cheap crap built there.

The wikipedia list does seem to discount ShortList's re-post of the Chinese press release. I found articles from Sina.com with the same text and pictures. But there has got to be a truthful way of expressing whatever list Long'ao comes in second on:
2nd largest office building?
2nd largest government building?
2nd largest climate-controlled building by floor area?
2nd largest single building by floor area?

Also: holy crap is that Chicago Merchandise Mart massive!

Indeed. Given how many skyscrapers are at least 100x100m footprint and over 100 stories tall, you'd think even the slightest attempt at critical thinking would reveal this as a PR stunt based on bad math.

I wouldnt be suprised. The naval annex is supposed to be demolished sometime. Or it was supposed to when I had to work around there and park and get hassled by the Pentagon Police.
