Hunh. Clockwork Angels actually made the list. Surprises me, pleasantly.

That's.... um.... quite a list, there subby. It reads like the hipster encyclopedia of music.

/Taylor Swift? Really?

They got #167 right

Not the best spot, but at least it's there. Too bad it needed an extra 25 spots to even appear.

When you get 75 slots for 2012 albums, it damn well better be there, even if it's on the low end according to the "experts"

That, Tempest, and Elysium were three must-haves for me this year.

Fiona Apple and Jack White were the only two names I had ever heard of before in the top 15.

Yeah, really snuck in as the 67th best album.

It should be top ten, it is Rush at their best, but we have to be hipster.

No argument here. One of their best, a 2112 for the 21st century.

Literally. It's a steampunk reboot of 2112.

I like that they included Gossamer, but the best album I heard all year was Body Faucet by Reptar.

Record reviews are the farking worst:

The songs of Preachers sound to bubble up as a miasma from a swamp. Southern Gothic to a T, with all the pathos, depravity, dread and redemption that implies, the record is a dispatch from the squalor of emotional wreckage. Holding court in this landscape is the id of singer Jeff Klein, howling of being, but an animal in a well on the title track...

What a pretentious load of pseudo-artsy-quasi-intellectual bullshiat. Makes me want to NOT even bother to listen to the music.

channel orange is an ok album and everything, but i can't help but feel like this is one of those instances where the critics are fawning over the album's backstory more than the actual music.

I refuse to believe that the Mountain Goats have released anything decent since Tallahassee.

Also, i don't even know what the fark people listen to anymore.

Reading that, I don't even know if there are HUMANS in the band. Is it even a BAND?

Ty Segall is too damn low. I don't even listen to half of these artists on a regular basis anyway to make a good list but Segall should have been higher- and he made 2 other albums this year too (Slaughterhouse and Hair)

I call BS. The best albums of the year were from bands you've never heard of.

2012-12-11 01:32:18 AM
I've heard of only 5 artists/bands in this entire list. Either I'm out of touch with modern music, or this list is full of hipster crap

2012-12-11 01:34:53 AM
Both The Wallflowers and Ben Folds had new albums this year and neither were recognized when both albums were fairly good.

Instead we get... whatever music is on this list.

I have Passion Pit's and Of Monsters and Men's album (both are great!).

Here in Canada, every single record reviewer is trying to convince us all that Grimes is so clever, creative and wonderful.

This is some of the most boring music ever.

Kimothy: That's.... um.... quite a list, there subby. It reads like the hipster encyclopedia of music.

Yes, really. At some point you just have to bow to the sheer legions no matter how hipster you are. Not only did Taylor wipe the floor with everyone save a months--worth-of-head-start-on-sales Adele, she did it leading with a song that has an ear-splitting screech only hipsters can hear.

Taylor literally sat down and went, 'My ex likes hipster music. He did this thing where he stopped liking bands as soon as they got popular, which I think is an insane way to enjoy music. So I am going make a song that will drive my ex, and all other hipsters, crazy with anguish. I am going to make a song that is played incessantly on the radio so that hipsters will not be able to stop hearing it and it gets stuck in their heads and they're driven nuts trying to get it out. Then I'm going to make a music video that sets out to make fun of how nonsensical hipster music videos are. And why am I going to do this to my ex? Because it's fun."

And then she had the song written in a half hour. On a whim. Because that is what she does.

I can listen to Sovereign Light Cafe 4 or 5 times in a row. Brilliant song.

Not a fan of Soundgarden but I am surprised that King Animal didn't make the list.

Bleh pop.

Never heard of most of them. Most of them I stopped on I have no interest in hearing of them again.

The Gaslight Anthem are decent same with Of Monsters and Men.

2012-12-11 02:58:00 AM
Tame Impala in the top 10? I'll give this list a meh +1.

(caveat, I like Tame Impala)

Fallout Boy: Not a fan of Soundgarden but I am surprised that King Animal didn't make the list.

I'm a fan, and while it's not as awesome as some of their older stuff, it's super-good and a hell of an album. Also missing from the list, Valtari, by Sigur Ros; and and Ufabulum, by Squarepusher.

My two must-haves this year. Disappointed that neither made the list.

TFA did mention Of Monsters and Men though, which is actually pretty decent.

I think Taylor Swift was just put in there as a part of a "Ha, bet you $5 nobody reads this far down the list to notice this" wager.
