Wat? I must be missing something.

Yes... namely, that Les Miserables was a Victor Hugo work and does not appear in the above photograph.

/Unless I'm missing something now.

I recommend the works of Edmund Wells (Grate Expectations, David Coperfield, & Knickerless Knickleby), & Charles Dikkens the well-known Dutch author (Rarnaby Budge).

The Steps:

1. grab a copy of Anna Karenina and place it in the emerging authors section
2. take a blurry cell phone picture of said tome
3. attention whore on The Consumerist
4. no chance for profit

However, there probably aren't too many people under 35 who have ever heard of Leo Tolstoy, so ...

/read Anna Karenina? Why, yes, I have.

Tolstoy didn't write Les Miserable, dumbassmitter. That was Alexandre Dumas.

"Emerging" is pretty high on the list of words that suggest that a stupid, imitative person has been sent to university. It's about on a par with the Jesus fish decals for warning you off a person with which you are unlikely to have pleasant or productive conversation.

That said, I'm off to transgress the patriarchy's hegemony and action an emergent paradigm -- with my butt.

While the categorization of Tolstoy as an "emerging author" is certainly curious, I don't think it is a big deal.

In fact, I am incredibly pleased that great works of fiction are finding their way to theaters with increasing regularity, and with them, an increased demand for the novels from which the movies stem. More reading of the classics! Bully!

I for one am thankful for the Consumerist. These hucksters at Target (indeed a telling name for this retailer) are simply leveraging an upcoming movie to expose our naive populace to works of fiction that are MORE THAN 30 YEARS OLD!

Imagine if someone - a child, perhaps - had purchased and read this book thinking that Tolstoy was the next Danielle Steel or Dean Koontz. Who if not the Consumerist will protect us from this chicanery?

Bravo Consumerist, bravo. Stay ever vigilant in your watchtowers. We need you more than ever.
