rocky_howard: TheHumanCannonball: What else do you expect him to do? The buzzfeed article was attacking him and attempting to paint him in a bad light using bad, or blatantly incorrect info.

The Oatmeal guy might be a dickhead, but in this case he's a more likeable dickhead than the original article's author.

He can defend himself without having to mention his donations, that's just bush league.

Again, donating money is not a shield you can use for your dickishness.

Kinda like how I have no idea whether or not you donate money to good causes, but I can still tell you're a dick?

You clowns are being played - the Oatmeal is priming the pageviews by setting up their own straw men and effectively knocking them down with the classic underdog play.

The notion that it's somehow bad to create material and choose subjects specifically to entertain and grow your audience does kind of explain Buzzfeed.

Why would someone who works on the internet, who presumably knows how things work, write a poorly (un?) researched hatchet job of someone with an audience of millions?

BuzzFeed contributors are often paid on a per-page view basis, meaning the more traffic that's delivered to the post the more money

Oh....

Stay tuned next week for my exhaustively researched expose about how Cory Doctorow, moot, Wil Wheaton and Drew Curtis get together every other weekend and kick puppies!

Marcus Aurelius: Looks like Jack Stuef is a bit sloppy in his research and biased in his opinion. In fact if I didn't know better I'd say that Jack Stuef is a clueless dickhead wanna-be with a chip on his tiny shoulder that spurs hate-page-hits and justifies his miserable existence exposing himself to the internet.

So what's his Fark handle?

Wow, Inman went straight for the jugular. Good for him.

I love the end where he shows the guy how to actually use the internet to dig up skeletons, and proceeds to blast it everywhere with the Palin kid's B-Day card.

If a man builds a million bridges and sucks one dick, people won't remember him as a bridge builder.

People are terrified that TheOatmeal has the mental capacity to deconstruct someones argument and put forth a point for point rebuttal.

Most trolls aren't capable of this. Hence the Oatmeal hate. Not only can he see through bullshiat, he can call people out on it. This terrifies trolls who exist solely to pretend to be more retarded then they are.

I dunno. He's bound to have one. Lemme just check the...

rocky_howard: Oh and I love how Oatmeal has to mention his donations every three sentences. It's like he makes the donations so he can brag about it when people attack him.

Guess what? Donating money doesn't exempt you from being a dickhead.

And bragging about it is distasteful.

...oh. Nevermind, found it.

Why did I hear this in Inigo Montoya's voice?

Because I'm an idiot. I should have heard it in Wesley's voice. I fail at Princess Bride.

Well, the important thing is you've found a way to feel superior to both.

vwarb: I like how the Buzzfeed writer acts like it is some awful sin to write things that you think people will like, and then want payment for creating them. I am reminded of a huge rant that John Scalzi went on yesterday about artists being expected to undervalue their work as some sort of artistic integrity hazing.

I like how Matthew Inman buys into it. "I bought a house for my sister and donated to charity, so it's all right"!

No, Matthew, it's not all right because you bought a house for your sister and donated to charity. It's all right because THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH MAKING MONEY SELLING ART!

His answer to that part should have been "Damn right I'm a millionaire. I'm rich, and you're not, because you suck and I don't".

For being a comedian, Inman's got a hell of a thin skin. He could have ripped Buzz Killington a new asshole without accepting his premise.

If so, that's meta-funny. You so seldom get meta-funny on the web.
