Subby has confused Medicaid with Medicare.

Long-term planning is not really part of Republican strategy. Nor is worrying about what happens to babies once they transition to the post-fetus phase.

Publicly funded contraceptive services and supplies have been demonstrated repeatedly to be highly cost-effective. For example, every dollar invested by the government for contraception saves $3.74 in Medicaid expenditures for pregnancy-related care related to births from unintended pregnancies. In total, the services provided at publicly funded family planning clinics resulted in a net savings of $5.1 billion in 2008. [60]

So your saying that morally bankrupt functionally brain damaged subhuman sacks of shiat DON'T make excellent long term planners.

Good to know.

...during the 2014-15 biennium, poor women will deliver an estimated 23,760 more babies than they would have, as a result of their reduced access to state-subsidized birth control. The additional cost to taxpayers is expected to be as much as $273 million

Is this intended to be a factual statement?

It really is a great return on investment. Wonder why a fiscal conservative wouldn't just love it

I doubt the numbers are that hard to run.

You take how often pregnancy occurs when girls have access to the pill and when they don't. Multiply the difference by your total sexually active population in the appropriate age range.

Something along those lines.

If you refuse to believe in the predictive power of statistics, then you should go check out this guy named Nate Silver.

The list already has math. Perhaps we should add "unwanted babies".

We could really shorten the list by just saying "facts," which would include pesky things like math and numbers.

nekom: It really is a great return on investment. Wonder why a fiscal conservative wouldn't just love it

Because the traditional conservatism (fiscal conservatism) has been poisoned and replaced with religious conservatism, which ultimately ends up creating the very problems they blame liberals for causing..

It's a win-win if you're a narrow-minded, bigoted, bible-thumping asshole. You create your own hate, and then feel good about it because Jesus.

Lets cut the social safety nets and then biatch about crime.
Lets cut government spending and biatch about unemployment increases.
Lets cut funding for schools and complain about an unqualified workforce and lazy children.
Lets prohibit narcotics and complain about drug related crime.

Based upon a report I briefly read by the WHO, abortion rates don't really change much based upon legality of abortion - just the rate of complications or death of the pregnant mother goes up because you don't have access to quality doctors.

Did they cut funding for WIC and food stamps also?

Some people live under this dilusion that PP is the only dispenser of birth control... When my daughter shows up at WIC and when she collects her food stamps they pass out birth control pills like candy.

It's sad really that the Republican platform has been distilled down to "We refuse to pay for anything", usually coming from a bunch of people whose pockets are lined with government money.

We ARE talking about the same folks who asked thier State Comptroller what would happen if they cut the top business and persoanl taxes rates, and she told them it would blow a $6 billion hole in their budget in 3 years, so they fired her on the grounds that she had blasphemed Good St. Reagan and denied the truth of the Laffer Curve, and passed the cuts anyway. 3 years later they had a $6 billion hole in thier budget and were screaming about how it was an unprecedented emergency that no one could have possibly seen coming.

If you were a true fiscal conservative you would be on the front lines of advocating free birth control for everyone. Studies have shown that free birth control for everyone has a direct impact on the number of unwanted pregnancies and resulting abortions.
