And an added bonus: in 30 years your locker will be featured on 'Storage Wars, 2042'...

Sounds like something Kiss (specifically Gene Simmons) would do.

2012-12-10 11:20:14 AM
The Commercial Album is all you will ever need.

2012-12-10 11:20:55 AM
I was expecting the article to be about KISS.

imtheonlylp: Who?

It's those two mice that rescue kidnapped children. My kids love them.

2012-12-10 11:21:52 AM
For some reason I immidiately pictured a Nickelback fan doing this. *shudder*

Oops, I didn't see Englebert Slaptyback's post.

2012-12-10 11:22:25 AM
Selling 10 refrigerators packed with crap, charging $100,000 for each one?

Sounds like an attempt to make a cool million.

2012-12-10 11:23:16 AM
But if you change your mind and buy it, I hope you enjoy my new icebox set.

2012-12-10 11:23:47 AM
That would be a lot of Drive-By truckers stuff, better include Cooley.

Excellent use of the "cool" tag, Subby.

As a lifelong Residents fan, I have just about everything that frig has to offer except for the 1st EP Santadog, and the Eyeball/top hat "mask".
If I had the money.. I'd still get it.

I wonder if the $5,000,000 mystery box is the keys to their recording studio?

2012-12-10 11:32:08 AM
Buy or Die.

2012-12-10 11:33:20 AM
So they have enough inventory to stuff 10 refrigerators full of crap. They don't actually 10 refrigerators full of crap in inventory.

Artists...

I never got the residents. It's one of those things where everyone seems to agree that it's genius stuff, but I just don't understand why.

On another note, how much would it take to ship Kei$ha to you house and straight up have sex with you?

A lifetime of painful urination.

I saw them on their Talking Light tour a few years ago. What a mindfark.

Yanno, I love the Residents dearly, but I would never plump for something like that, even if I were as wealthy as a Job Creator™.

She'd probably do it for free. (And remember, you get what you pay for.)

Cost of the tickets plus $20.

For $100,000, I'm pretty sure Gene Simmons would pop out of a refrigerator and have sex with your wife. Tired, old, wrinkly, wheezy geriatric sex. It will be the hairiest and greasiest 15 seconds of your wife's life.

hold on now: do you have the baby sex reel to reel?

And here I thought the Merzbox was the most ridiculous box set in existence.

2012-12-10 12:06:30 PM
Way back when I bought Mark of the Mole and The Commercial Album (40 songs, each exactly one minute long), and yes they are insanely weird and fun. But 6 figures for a super-collection?

Where are these people with so much more dollars than sense? I want to hang out with them; maybe convince them that upgrading my lifestyle a little is so much more rewarding and cheaper than any of their expensive collectibles.

No, don't have a reel to reel player. :) But I do have the Baby Sex 7".

imtheonlylp: Who?

They have that popular album called Tim. All my hipster friends say they're the greatest musicians to ever write music.

I was on board until Randy stated in the video in TFA that The Residents invented the music video. If there's one thing I can't stand in my advertising, it's lies, so that's a deal breaker.

fark yeah

No, I've never heard the Residents, but I did consider buying the steel suitcase with the six dildos, handcuffs, lube, etc., super extra special edition of "Liebe is für alle da" (Love is for Everybody) that Rammstein put out a couple years ago, but hubby looked askance at me so I didn't.

/still would like to get it

No No, That's The Placemats. Common mistake.

"How do you say I love you, to an answering machine?"

1972 they used video tape to make Villeness Fats.
Give me another band that produced a video on tape earlier then them.

We aren't talking about film. Video Tape.

One thing about the Residents, they don't lie.. but they do stretch reality. I wouldn't be surprised if you did find a band using video tape that early.. but I doubt you will.

My first thought:
"Farking Gene Simmons."

After clicking:
"Well, I don't have $100k, but I hope someone thoroughly enjoys this."

I'm with ya. Been aware of them ever since I stumbled across a little documentary clip about them when I was a kid and thought the eyeball costumes were cool, and I'll read about them whenever I stumble across a reference to them. But despite several attempts to try to grok the actual music, I'm always left cold. I guess I like the idea of the art better than the art itself.

(Kinda the same with Negativland.)

I've always been fascinated with The Residents on a conceptual level, but have never really been able to get into the music itself. Any fans have recommendations on points of entry or how to approach their weird and vast catalog?

What we know as the modern music video (do they even make videos any more?) yes. They did a lot of pioneering work with...well everything.

Just go with it. Listen carefully and with an open mind.

The 4 members of the Residents are probably:

Zombie Elvis
Zombie Holly
Zombie Lennon
Zombie Morrison

/if true, the boxed set is actually underpriced
