I have nothing in particular to add other than one little annoyance with the article. This part (referring to Wilford Brimley) in particular:

He wasn't threatening to bring about the extinction of the human race. He was attempting to prevent the extinction of the human race by letting the creature get away from the base. Kind of a difference there.

WIlfred Brimley in "The Firm" scared the living crap out of me. But then I saw him in "In and Out" and thought his character was the greatest thing since Kevin Kline played someone impersonating the president.

I love this part in the movie, this pivotal moment. You realize the commies have really REALLY farked up bad with their plans. Even if they win, their agent is going to use her power to royally fark them with America's power for what they did. They destroyed her son, and are about to give her the nuclear launch codes. Whoever thought out this plan really needs to be fired.

I knew Kingsley had it in him, he was a pretty decent bad guy in Sneakers, just not terrifyingly or violently so.

I disagree. He did play an absolute biatch, but he was the best fighter in Ontario at the end. He did last 3 minutes in a fight with a guy who blasted a hole in the moon, and he even died just to come back and kick ass.

I think I may have a different idea of badass from you. Don't get me wrong, love me some Scott Pilgrim. The fight scenes were awesome but "badass" didn't spring to mind for me. Aside from those, the scenes with dialogue just reminded me of classic Cera playing to type.

However in "Youth" when he plays that quasi-French sociopathic chain-smoking douchebag alter-ego I was pleasantly surprised. For me that was playing against type, at least as far as the spirit of the article goes. (actors against type).
