Make with the animated GIFs. I'll be in my bunk with my videotape of "The Wicked Lady".

I was ready to be skeptical, but the tumblr has convinced me.

If this is the best article Io9 could submit for their daily fark greenlight then that site is swirling the drain faster then I thought.

NG sucked sooo hard. TOS and DS9 crush it with their awesomeness, both separately and combined.

Me and my Troy and Abed mug are still waiting for the new season.

As much as I love Community... this is true. No one watches the show.

No, NBC needed to make room for surefire hits like th Animal Hospital, Matthew Perry Comeback Attempt #459, and Guys with Kids(or is it Dudes with Babies?).

Wonderful.

*sigh*

I'm going to the Politics Tab for a bit for less incendiary reactions. Or maybe the Gaza Strip.

So from what I gather, the main love for Community is that it makes a lot of nonsensical and out-of-context pop culture references, and for that reason people think it's funny and topical and of interest to Internet geeks, when really it's just sort of pandering and spitting out lines that are tailored to illicit the "Hey! I recognize that thing! Therefore this is funny!" response that seems to be so popular and revered by the Internet crowd.

Swirling?

I've always seen io9 as the city sewer of nerd news.

/It's where all the shiat ends up.

It's TV for people who watch too much TV. People who use words like "meta" and "trope" in casual conversation. People who read those wankmasters at McSweeney's or guys like Dave Eggers who have to "reinvent the literary landscape" when all they're really doing is jerking off a typewriter.

Now, it is cleverly done stuff, in that the touch under Dan Harmon was pretty light and stayed on the right side of "homage" vs. "rip-off"...most of the time. And the jokes in the writing are generally pretty solid, even though they're not the standard sitcom "set-up-punchline-laughtrack" model we've all known and loved. But yeah, a lot of the humor is reference-based, which can grow tiresome if you aren't a voracious pop culture omnivore.
