SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- Moon Tae-Hwa stares at his computer, chafed and dehydrated from the hours of porn he's viewed online while his wife and children slept. He feels no shame - only a righteous sense of mission.

"I feel like I'm rubbing out dirty things," the devout Christian and family counselor said.

PORN FIGHT!

2012-12-10 01:57:05 PM
Holy crap I did not realize that porn was illegal in S Korea! Kinda explains why I've always had a real difficult job finding Korean porn though. Loves me the Korean ladies and has gotten quite frustrated with the lack of good Korean porn.

Seriously though, what is the betting that the guy in the article at least fapped once whilst on his little crusade to eradicate the S Korean nets of porn. No straight man could look at porn for hours and not get the urge.

2012-12-10 01:59:35 PM
What a perfect ruse ... fashion a nationwide effort to "combat" porn ... enlist citizen "soldiers" in the campaign ... they only have to watch for it ... and watch ... and watch ... So as long as you can set aside your principles against aiding gov't censorship, you get lots of porn.

Having now read the full article, I hate how many times they reference porn in relation to sex crimes in an attempt to show how it's the cause of said crimes. No, it couldn't possibly be that sexual predators also enjoy watching porn. Of course not. The porn makes them turn into sexual predators.

I really do not think porn creates the people who commit sex crimes I strongly expect that people with a desire to commit sex crimes would be drawn to porn. I have viewed porn off and on since I was around 11 years old and yet I have no desire to engage in abnormal sex let alone a sex crime. Is prostitution legal in South Korea yet porn is not? When I was there it seemed liked there were prostitutes in every night club.

if it created sex crimes we would have a very serious global problem by now. The anti-porn lobby will always have their "rapist had a massive stash of porn" lines, but the fact is that if the police turned over most young men's houses, they'd find a stash of porn.

Yup, and the authorities got wise to some of my favorite sites while I was there and blocked those. Korean culture is full of moralistic little busybodies. It's a little weird in how their left-right function. The liberals are very anti-foreigner, racist and reflexively pro-North Korean in addition to being economically liberal. The conservatives are socially conservative, pro-corporatism, and much friendlier to foreigners.

It depends on the porn. There was a link a month or so about a Google contractor who had to filter some stuff. From the sound of it, most would be more inclined to drill through their temple than get excited if it was their job to review that stuff.

No thanks, I'll stick with my OB-approved pron.

If you're going to get 10 inches it's way easier to clear it, like, five inches at a time.

Yep that was pretty much my thoughts too. I am just wondering why so many people are willing to believe that porn produces sex offenders when that line of thought can make no possible sense in even the littlest amount.

They have found the Lord. Fifty percent of the population are Christian and they take it very seriously. Many of them attend church every day.

If you look out of the apart(ment) window at night you see an ocean of red crosses, each one being a church. There is at least one church on every block.

Uh, you do realize those are actually fronts for brothels, right? At least they were in the early 90's.

The problem here (have lived in S.Korea since 1996) is the problem. It seems like people in government here have perfected the art of wagging the (occasionally barbecued) dog. Instead of addressing the root of the "rise in reported sex crimes," namely an utter lack of sex education at any level, coupled with a refusal to acknowledge and treat mental illness, the official line seems to be to find a way to scapegoat a vaguely correlated factor as the root cause. That Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has a committee that's been advocating for the introduction of sex-ed for years. This group also points to an appalingly distorted, "no-means-yes" view of sex that young Korean men develop in the absence of socialization, and strongly encouraged by (mostly 80s and 90s) film. The article would have been a bit more balanced, IMHO, had it included these factors. It does allude to this, a bit, with the '...no countries that have banned porn have seen a decline in sex crime' line. Porn doesn't rape and chop up people, mentally-and-emotionally disturbed rapists do. (and that guy was 'CHINESE-Korean,' another media poo-storm that led to misinformation regarding foreigners and crime)

Maybe that explains why they have among the highest number of prostitutes per capita.

I once saw this Korean movie about a guy who got a boner every time he farted. After reading this article, I think I understand why Korea would make such a movie.

That would be hilarious if was the case. But on my first night in Korea my hosts dragged me to a New Year service at one of these places. And yes, tragically, it was a church service.

I did read that shops with the old fashioned barber poles out the front offered more than just hair cuts.
