So were there two of each for a total of four, or are both kids aged 7 and 11 simultaneously?

Anyone else worried that the children were returned to their parents? I mean, they probably got the gun from the parents, and something about hanging around in a parking lot suggests that the kids don't have a good home-life.

A: She should have just rolled down the window and tussled the little hiar and said...."Oh YOU!!!"....You....you're SO CUTE!" and then left....

Or B: she should have kicked open the drivers side door with her foot, trying to take them down, fired up the truck and then powerslid a quick 180 and then taken them both out *with extreme prejudice* and then backed the fark up over them squashing their little heads like over ripe cherry tomatoes.

C: Shot them in the face and opened up their brain cavity like a fist into a big bowl of pudding.

/the answer is *always* C? amirite? Or B is good too.

Because of their age, the boys could not be taken into custody at a juvenile detention center, so they were returned to their families, police said.

The 11-year-old tried to escape his parents' house but was quickly caught by officers and returned to his parents.

I'm of the opinion that until a kid is emancipated his parents should also be charged with any crime he commits.

My comment was in response to his about: "I'll give up my guns the day everyone else does."

I likened fact that he cannot reasonably disarm until everyone else does to a three-way standoff. Of course, everyone else feels exactly the same way, so nothing can change. Fear begets fear, rational or otherwise. It's downright sad.

Even if he doesn't, why does that make his opinion less valid?

Holding parents responsible for their kids' actions seems like it would go a long way towards teaching some parental responsibility. Don't wanna to go to jail for rape/assault/robbery that your 14 year old committed? What kind of parent are you that your kid thought this was acceptable?

If it is truly a "his friends made him do it/it was only one time/he's a good kid" the courts would bear this out.

Priotip: Don't raise your kids to be gangsters. The only thing I ever got arrested for while I was underage wasn't something you'd spend time in prison for anyway, and I guarantee I got it worse from my parents (for about 18 months afterwards) than the fine/SIS/DL probation that the courts gave me.

Being able to defend oneself isn't a desire stemming from fear but rather a natural right. This is to say nothing of the other purposes of firearms (shooting targets, sport, hunting).

The primary function of a gun in as a weapon. Hunting, target shooting also? Sure. But, people don't use .22s for that, though, do they? Their sole function is to wound and destroy human life.

Seriously. My friends little brother was given a 22 rifle at 6. That x-mas he was given a list of what to hunt to get a handgun too. He had the entire list on the back porch skinned & cleaned by dark. He got his 22 handgun a week later. Fast forward he's 22 now... an excellent marksman & hunter. He supplies a good portion of his families meat for the year and is a full time student with above expected grades due to his adorable girlfriend. Guns don't make kids thugs.... not teaching your children about reality does.

I am not so sure you could say the same about the poorest people in your or anyone else's country. People that want more than they can get will kill and steal to get it if desperate enough. I am glad you are removed from that but I have lived in poor neighborhoods where people will stab you for $20. It's a difficult thing to put into words; the differences in how say the average Canadians view gun ownership as compared to how the average American views gun ownership. Average may even be the wrong word there.

Myself and a large number of people who live around me own firearms. It's a rural area, and we use them to fill the freezer with meat for the year. Protecting my family doesn't even cross my mind when I think of owning a gun; I haven't locked my car door since I got my first car. It's the same feeling I have for my hammer, or my spade in the shed. We don;t talk about it being our "right" to own a gun, any more than we do about our hammers.

It's a completely different standpoint from say someone who lives in a large American city (speaking in generals here). The argument comes up time and time again, because they posses firearms for the purpose of protecting ones family. It ceases to be a tool at that point and is a weapon. Throw in an unexplained over zealous attitude towards civil liberties and you get the firearm arguments I see all the time.

My point is that it's a null argument mostly. Apples to oranges. idk, I'm not really saying what I mean here.

2012-12-10 01:22:15 PM
I feel the "guns for protection" debate is a very small piece of a larger debate over why that protection is needed to begin with. Education, social programs, poverty yadda yadda.

aagrajag: cherryl taggart: Aw crap, a couple of my kids have clones. Well, at least now I know where the bio family moved to.

The two I'm thinking of, are actually a little older. But their juvenile files are sealed by court order, so I have no concrete episodes of what they did at those ages. I just get lots of sympathy when I go into social service offices around here and mention their names or case numbers. And odd questions like, "does your knife drawer lock?" or "how often do you see police cruisers idling near your house?"

2012-12-10 01:49:17 PM
On the one hand, I'm like, a kid, even 11 or 7, pulls a loaded gun on someone, they're good to kill in self defense (with gun or car or whatever).

So they're also good to incarcerate, but I guess there just aren't facilities for that?

And while in general I feel, yeah, punish the parents for a) breeding and b) failing, but then, there have to be decent parents out there with shiat kids, right?

So I figure the best solution is to just go CPS on the kids. No moar mommy and daddy for you, junior. If the parents actually were shiatty, then it helps the poor, mistreated kid. If they weren't, then it saves them from their demon spawn.

Kid is removed from the weapons, placed in foster care, where he either a) gets a good home and things go better, or b) gets abused, fair punishment for being a dumbass.

Also, kid's record with firearms is line item one for prospective adopters/foster parents, so they can react accordingly.

aagrajag: RembrandtQEinstein: best quote

Because of their age, the boys could not be taken into custody at a juvenile detention center, so they were returned to their families, police said.

The 11-year-old tried to escape his parents' house but was quickly caught by officers and returned to his parents.

I'm of the opinion that until a kid is emancipated his parents should also be charged with any crime he commits.

If you keep a dangerous dog that gets off its leash and mauls someone, you're darn tootin' you're getting sued.

I fail to see how this is much different.

Are you comparing a dog to a child? How dare you? A dog will love you unconditionally and will obey as long as you feed him and treat him with respect.

luthia: I feel the "guns for protection" debate is a very small piece of a larger debate over why that protection is needed to begin with. Education, social programs, poverty yadda yadda.

It's something that many gun ownership supporters have pointed to for years.
The problem is that understanding crime is a very complex undertaking and politicians are simpletons.
Blaming a tool is something they can easily accept.
Blaming their mismanagement of the system... Not so much.

/But there's no doubt about it, mismanagement is to blame for most of our problems.
