mongbiohazard: 2xhelix: emiliogtz: When this quasi-famous people die

You consider someone with 15 million albums sold and multiple Latin Grammy nominations quasi-famous?

15 million total split between like 13 albums? That's not all that impressive, actually. To put that in perspective Supertramp's "Breakfast in America" sold over 20 million copies - and that is just one album they put out... in 1979.

And a Latin Grammy nomination? So she was just nominated, but didn't win, and it wasn't even a real Grammy? Yeah, very famous. So impressive.

She does look like she was pretty famous among people that run lunch buffets though.

Just because she wasn't "white people famous" doesn't mean she was only "quasi-famous". She was famous.

Turbo Cojones: Great Janitor: Just as I said when I learned of the death of Selena:

Who???

She played Norteno music. The only people who listen to that shiat are Americans with Mexican sounding names, and a few Regios. Mexico would be better off ceding Monterray to the US anyway. They don't even know how to speak proper Spanish.

My name is Mexican sounding? I don't think so. STFU and quit talking out of your ass.

Nah, it's just a kind of sausage. Lots of countries make it, even the US. Argentina is famous for their chorizo, actually.

I could've sworn those were all the same song.

That just makes you a dipsh*t.

I've seen no mention of freebird yet. I find this disturbing as you guys seem LS literate.

/Alabamian-Jesus I'm sick of THAT song.

Chourico is portugeuse sausage. Tasty I might add.

She was certainly easier to look at than that vile witch, Jennifer Lopez. Did she sing any better? She HAD to act better.

Marisyana: She was married to Esteban Loiaza? I did not know that.

That's because:

One: Their marriage (her third!) lasted two years, and
Dos: He was boinging her 27-year-old daughter (she had her when she was 16)

Very much so.

As for Jenni Rivera... look at her picture and you will figure out exactly why she didn't have the effect on American pop that Selena or Shakira have had. Sad but true. (Well, that and AFAIK she stuck to "true" Mexican music, aka nothing that gets play on American pop stations.)

CygnusDarius: Meh. Never really liked her music, but it's sad when people die.

You must be sad as hell 24/7/365, 'cos millions of people die every day. Or does it only matter if they are (semi) famous?

Maybe you should consider that even though someone has accomplished what she did, yet someone hasn't heard of her, to that person, SHE. IS. NOT. FAMOUS.

Just a thought.

Fame is a funny thing and very subjective. I'm fairly certain my 89 y/o Mom knows who Mick Jagger is. Justin Beiber? Nope.

In tragedies? It's a big let-down. Doesn't matter who. But the unsung stories are worst.
