Bobo_Spiewack: The other day, I came inside from bagging leaves and heard Belly blasting from the living room. Seems my 16 year old Daughter has been diggin through my old CDs at random and really liked that one.

So far I have dug out:
Pixies, Camper Van Beethoven, Breeders, Throwing Muses, and Juliana Hatfield. I will never see those CDs again.

This guy was a founding member of Belly but was kicked out before they hit it big. He now performs on RI public access and is dreadful. It makes for entertaining television.

Kelley's cute. Listening to Kim talk she sounds like a yooper and when you see her in profile her head looks like a bowling ball. All that aside, good band. Miss those days.

such a great single. perfect for the time. bonus: it's held up really well.

Gunny Highway: The Breeders wish they had a quarter the talent Pixies had.

The Pixies had their moments, but they got to be .... predictable. The Breeders got much better once they shook off that history. Black Francis never did.

Bobo_Spiewack: Juliana Hatfield.

I hate my sister. She's such a biatch.

Disagree. Frank Black made much of his best music post Pixies. FB and the Catholics were top notch.

They're going to play Cannonball 18 times?

/don't laugh. Billy Ray Cyrus plays Achy Breaky Heart 3 times per show

So as someone who's only familiar with their one hit, what are some other good songs they did?

That's just a ridiculous thing to say, it really isn't fair to the Breeders to compare them to Black Francis.

Fun fact:
As a 14 year old, I masturbated more than once to the Breeders' Cannonball video.

You may be wondering how that is possible; what I POSSIBLY could have found in that video to be spankworthy....

Well, that was my 14 year old self's talent -- I could masturbate to just about anything as long as a woman was in it.

That's three times too many. Billy Ray is a sadist!

I had "Pod". On cassette, of course. Loved "Hellbound" the best.

Tyrone Slothrop: So as someone who's only familiar with their one hit, what are some other good songs they did?

I always liked "Do You Love Me Now Jr.", just because it has Dinosaur Jr. on it.

whereisian: 20 years? Faaak.

No kidding. Last Splash is a memory from high school. I thought the sisters were hot back then too.

Looked it up on youtube...complete flashback to watching MTV in the parents basement after school. The Fiona Apple song in the sidebar (Criminal) completed it...and speaking of hot...

CarnySaur: brerjeff: Dwight_Yeast: brerjeff: I saw them open for Nirvana in '93, they got booed so unmercifully Kurt had to stumble out and ask everyone to chill out. NNot a fan then, not a fan now but good for them I suppose.

I saw them open for Nirvana in 93 and they completely had the audience. "Cannonball" was big on the radio at the moment.

Half Japanese (the first band on the bill) did actually get booed.

Question: is there enough heroin in the Hindu Kush to keep the Deal sisters happy?

Well, the show I saw them at was in Jacksonville, FL so I wouldn't trust their taste in music. I wasn't booing however.

I didn't know Nirvana fans were such jerks.

Still pretty much are.

I saw their last show in 1994. They were one of the best bands all day.

No love for "Pod" with Tanya Donelly?

That is the superior Breeders album, in my opinion.

Pod is a bunch of half-finished songs. Last Splash is excellent.

limboslam: Link
This was pretty good shiat.

I just realized the first song on Depeche Mode's playing the Angel sounds strikingly similar to the intro of Cannonball.

Hmm...I saw the Breeders at Park Pop in The Hague in 1992.

Christ.

How odd is it that this news would be brought to us from a site called "Slicing up eyeballs"?

/Yes, not very odd all.

I've been listening to the Pixies for years and never bothered to find out what that meant. I finally wikki'd it a few weeks ago. Pretty damn interesting

I'm pretty sure there was a reason for that...

I heard that Pod was recorded in a week or so. Never bothered to check on that, as it sounded completely plausible. There's some decent stuff there, but it needed a bit more work.
