And...it's canceled.

Diogenes Teufelsdrockh: And...it's canceled.

No, it's just been put it away in a closet. Fans will continue to get teased by rumors they will bring it back out every now and then, but no one will ever actually doing anything with it.

I heard a totally true rumor that Nathan Fillion just bought Lego Industries in order to officially release this set.

$385?

fark you.

Ya know... Firefly was a great concept, so much potential and it's sad that it got cancelled-- --but let's face it, guys:

A significant object of our interest has now been answered/rewarded in a couple key episodes of "Homeland".

/not liking the short hairdo tho

The All-Powerful Atheismo: $385?

well if it was official LEGO that would be close to the actual price. LEGOs are expensive, mainly because they are molded to a 12 micron tolerance process.

This. The Imperial Flagship I bought (Pirates, not Star Wars) is just as big, is an official set, and only a quarter of the price of this thing.

Yeah. I love Firefly and all that but I'd only ever get this if I had huge amounts of disposable income. As it is, there are much more worthwhile things to get with that kind of money. For example, I just got my first ps3, the super slim with Assassin's Creed III.

I wish the action figures (sold separately) looked more like the characters they represent. If I were to see the River, Zoe, and Wash figures on their own, I'd never associate them with Firefly.

If I had a bunch of money just lying around, I would totally get this. Alas, that is not the case.

There are much worse sets. The Star Wars Advent calendar is per piece more expensive than this set. I believe some of the LotR sets are similarly overpriced.

Is that what is preventing LEGO from coming out with a line of 3D printers? Or is it just the price for the technology?

It's scary to think about how much money those guys would get from me if I could just download and print out new sets whenever I felt like it.

You can download a good chunk of the instructions at the lego site. Buy pieces in bulk, download the instructions (for free).

They seem to have killed off the educational sets - basically a big tray of technic pieces you can go berserk with.

I'm waiting for somebody to sell a reasonably-priced kit of vac-formed and 3-d printed plastic pieces so I can assemble a really large scale model of the thing, say, coffee-table-sized.

Too many sets require pieces that are not sold in any bulk or grab-bag forms. And of you can find the pieces you need, they are way more costly than they are worth
