I can't believe how sexist that card is. Hallmark assumes that boyfriends are only good for giving diamonds and rubies. Apparently, if you aren't a rich guy who hands out precious stones, you just aren't worth talking about.

It makes me sad to think of all of those young boys who have their self image shaped by such stereotypes.

The point is, Hallmark never produced the card. They acquired the company that did produce it a few years after that company stopped producing the card in question.

So, to review, the card is sexist, it is also in pretty poor taste in general, however, it is in no way Hallmark's fault.

Actually, your over the top comparison is more of a troll than I've come up with.

Sure, but any reasonable person would assume that after a couple of years in circulation the card would have been sold out or thrown out. I don't see how Hallmark could have foreseen that one shopkeeper would find a box in a basement from 15 years ago and try and sell the cards today.

How is the card sexist? It's actually somewhat truthful and mildly humorous.

And yeah - I think I'm going to let Hallmark off the hook on this. It's a card they didn't even produce.

What? Girls should want boyfriends to buy them things and boys should want girlfriends with big boobs? I'm aromantic and even I know that's bullshiat. People do actually fall in love and it's not about some undeveloped stereotypes created by a toddler. FFS.

This.

Again, it is even the issue anymore whether Hallmark is responsible or not.

It's gawking at all the latent and blatant sexism in this thread.

I suppose I can't get too grumpy about it, after all I've pretty much learned by now that like Waldo a couple of posts above you, some people are just going to assume that since our relationship is that way that for some reason, I don't love my wife.

Don't really understand that reasoning, since like, we're married and all (and have been for several years) and um... all the "fun and games" is pretty much by mutual consent. There is some truth to card

5'11 with a C-cup chest that used to be a A-cup - trust me I know what i'm talking about when it comes to being flat chested and not getting much love from the men. Got bigger boobs (most people still think they are small for a woman of my height) men started paying me more attention. My current boyfriend doesn't think my old chest was that terrible (he claims he would still be with me) but even he admits that he likes the current size better on me.

Before the fark moral outrage brigade set in about me having fake tits - one is a replacement for a breast lost to cancer. Since I had to go though the financial and physical pain of a reconstruct anyway - I figured I would make my breasts fit my tall frame a bit better. A-cups on a 5'1 petite girl is cute, not so much at 5'11- people start thinking you were born a man. Still I don't recommend getting implants unless you are in the extremes like I was in body shape. Even then, if it wasn't for need to have the surgery to hide the scarring - I don't think I would have gone thought he surgery for strictly cosmetic purposes. It's painful, expensive and to be honest it won't really change your life that much. I like the way clothes fits better and am more comfortable with my body but not enough of a change happened to justify the pain of getting voluntary implants.

Not exactly. They are not responsible for the fact that the cards exist. They would only be responsible if the cards were still on sale. The pictures do not make that part clear. It's cropped to show only the card, which may or may not be in a store at the time. It may also have been purchased years ago as a gag and someone put up a picture of it to create mass outrage.

HBK: The first part you mentioned is more spot on. The breasts demonstrate that the female has gone through puberty and so she is capable of conception. The size preference, however, is more based on health. The larger the breasts (throughout the evolution of mankind, not so much now), the healthier the female, the more likely that she will be able to bring a child to term and provide for it.

Thinking on those lines, socially speaking it means that she's not only from good parents genetically, but also good parents socially - they were capable enough to provide well for their offspring, and depending on how to social structure worked, it could have indicated that hers was a good family/clan/tribe to be allied with.

Assuming that they'd want you, of course, so you had to prove your worth...

Quoth Hallmark: This card was printed over 15 years ago by Arnold Barton before Hallmark UK acquired that brand. This card has not been reproduced since and we are surprised that a copy was still available for purchase in a retail store. We agree the card is not appropriate; we apologize on behalf of Arnold Barton and will do our best to track down any copies remaining in circulation.

If that's not good enough for you, then nothing within reasonable bounds is. And as for your idea that they give money to 'sexism awareness' or whatever the fark you were talking about, they don't have to and they don't need to. Whiny folk who complain a lot about perceived sexism aren't exactly their target market, but I'm sure Fox News would have a field day with "Hallmark cards gives money to commie leftist causes".

I don't particularly give a shiat about defending Hallmark, but I am interested in attacking those that are fighting for the right not to be offended by anything. If you don't like it, boycott it. It should be easy, since you can't buy the card anywhere anyway.

Hallmark has no responsibility for the actions an acquisition took -- and stopped taking -- years before said acquisition became a part of Hallmark. I don't believe they admitted to being sexist farkwads. Got a link?

No, they implied bigger boobs = more male attention. Which is true. It's basic evolutionary psychology.

No, it's blatant sexism, and I don't believe anyone over at Hallmark, or for that matter, the company that used to produce those cards have actually copped to as of yet.

I was hoping you'd have a link to that effect. Never mind.

You sound flat.

whidbey: NotMyAlt: TFA: hallmark bought a company that stopped printing the card 15 years ago.

Shame on you hallmark!

Because blatant and uncalled-for sexism has a statute of limitations.

Of course not. When someone does something you don't approve of, you should hold it against them forever.

To do any less is condoning their behavior.

I thought I'd share my girlfriend's reaction:

Me: "Listen to this." *reads card*
Her: "That's pretty funny! They're pissed off over that?"
Me: "Ya."
Her: "It's just something on the internet. What's the big deal."
Me: "No, it's a hallmark card."
Her: "What!" *This is an outrage!*

/Then I laughed at her hypocrisy.
