Funbags: Rubber Biscuit: Derwood: Do I have to do everything around here?

[blogs.laweekly.com image 289x422]

She's an excellent example of the way even the mostly homely of women can be come sex symbols through celebrity.

She's a buttereverything.

This.

Meg has huge, floppy boobs, but she's already forming the multichin, and in 10 years, gravity will not be her ally.

She was a butter-drumming. A self-disinterested novelty.

Exactly. She's the Khloe Kardashian of female musicians.

As a really great guitar player, sorry if you don't believe me, Jack White is a genius. If you don't get it, that is your problem. Secondly, Meg never wanted to be in a band and she didn't like Jack the entire time they were famous. Meg liked traveling and her friends. Her drumming was the core reason that people like The White Stripes even if they claim it is bad... It isn't bad, it is original, and not a product of being bad.

StreetlightInTheGhetto: Also, Local H would like to have a word.

Oh man Local H is fantastic, great sound. I've missed seeing them twice though.

The Raconteurs is the only Jack White band I can tolerate. Somehow his annoying screechy voice is mitigated somehow in that band.

good looking girls drumming? this is relevant to my interests.

meytal cohen - b.y.o.b cover

Third_Uncle_Eno: I agree. Her drumming is part of what made the White Stripes different and special. Who cares if she wasn't Neil Peart. It was rockin' and minimalistic. It's about what you DON'T play v.s. what you do, just like in jazz.

In Meg's case, she couldn't even keep time. This is like attempting to pass off inability as a talent. Jack White, however, is a great guitar player.

R Kelly's Doo Doo Butter: I don't see the big deal. Her face looks like the bottom of my foot, and her body isn't all that banging. Sure she has big boobs, but them bad boys be droopin'.

When somebody gushes over a celebrity, I use the "in my office" test, i.e., I try to think of women in my office who are objectively better looking than her. Out of the top of my head, I think of at least 10. She's not even pretty. She's got big boobs. But that's all.

Now, somebody like Charlize Theron ? Yeps, none like that whatsoever in my office.

douchebag/hater: brap: I think she's a great drummer.

She keeps a beat.  No need for 10,000-piece all the gongs in the over-kill kit wankery.

The minimalism fits the White Stripes sound perfectly IMHO.

Agreed and in my NOT so humble opinion.

It's obvious that neither of you are drummers if you call what they do "keeping a beat". Even if you are drummers, you're not very good if you think she's good.

I don't really have anything to add to this discussion, which seems to be about how some of you have experienced irreparable emotional and physiological harm in various forms including impotence, blowfly larvae burrowing under the skin of your testicles, and possible seizure disorders resulting from briefly resting your eyes upon the gruesome visage of Meg White.

And that I, too, am a rock drummer with a huge rack.

And I like the White Stripes. Not a huge fan, haven't heard all of it, but I like what I've heard. A lot.

Ah fark.
Where Megan Fox = OMG what's wrong with her face? DON NOT WANT!
And Meg White = OMG So hot! DO WANT. fap fap fap

whipbambucket: Sorry, the Raconteur's second anal bum cover is outstanding. My favorite Jack White material so far...

Her System of a Down covers are the only things that could ever make SOAD listenable past their first album. I'd have so many of her babies.

abhorrent1: Ah fark.

FTFY. I wouldn't call Meg White hot, but she's got a cuteness to her, and big floppy bouncy boobies are always awesome. Add the extra points for being a musician and suddenly she's hot.

Megan Fox has a smokin body but she really needs to lay off the makeup, it's like her makeup artist started out doing work for the company that makes Real Dolls and never learned any new tricks.

2012-12-10 10:24:52 AM
Meg White is a better drummer than I am, and so I'm not going to judge her.

2012-12-10 10:40:36 AM

sat1va: I always found them kind of meh, but then I never really gave them a chance. When some magazine or website claimed Jack White was one of the greatest guitar players to ever live I was pretty floored by that claim because nothing he's ever done has stood out for me. I did a bit of searching to see if I could find him demonstrating this skill and I came up short. Perhaps a farker can point me to something that supports the claim.

It really depends on what you consider skill. Jack White isn't a shredder, and he doesn't play super fast or super intricate solos. He plays interesting solos that don't just follow the norms most guitarists follow. His solos in this video are not like "wow, how did he pull that off" but they are relatively unique. And in this video you can see him playing guitar and a keyboard at the same time, which is skillful (although he's playing a fairly avante garde part on the keyboard).

Obviously, this type of skill is going to be divisive, because some people will really appreciate it and love it, and other people won't appreciate it and won't find any of what they are looking for (standard musical prowess) and will hate it.

Third_Uncle_Eno: probably my favourite White Stripes song:

One of my favorites because he rhymes acetaminophen.

whipbambucket: sadbad: She's fine for what they do. Boringly competent drummer.

Also, The Dead Weather are clearly the best band involving Jack White, in which, oddly enough, he's a pretty great drummer. Funny how that worked out.

Sorry, the Raconteur's second album cover is outstanding. My favorite Jack White material so far...

Agreed. Consolers of the Lonely is one of the best albums I've bought in a very long time. There's an incredible amount of musical talent crammed into it. I saw them live at a local small venue right after Consolers released and it was farking amazing.

2012-12-10 01:41:10 PM
I would wreck it harder than Meg White's musical career.

2012-12-10 02:11:04 PM
I never got around to checking them out so I watched the links in this thread. I really, really like his guitar playing, but I'm not feeling the vocals. Drums work for me.

2012-12-10 04:11:12 PM
Check out the song Meg White by Ray Lamontagne. Great tune, clever lyrics, and he obviously told the drummer "sound like her"

coco ebert: What's with all the White Stripes hate? I don't get it.

They dont fine-tune and over-produce everything they do in a computer to be "perfect sound" like 99% of the music out there today, so the dub-step set that posts here have no grasp on what real instruments played by humans sounds like. If you don;t have 90+ bpm perfectly timed to a metronome, you are doming something wrong, apparently.

It doesn't appear anyone in any kind of modern music set are the ones who hate the White Stripes. Seems to be the old school metal and classic rock types, ya know, Farkers.

Too crappy for pop. Too slow for house/dub/electronic. Too...everything else for rock. It's a solution to a problem no one had.

That's just it. She is out of sync with Jack's playing. Consistently. Hell, she practically bragged about not ever having taken a lesson and not practicing. Seems like we're setting the bar EXTREMELY low on what is considered acceptable. I can't believe anyone would make an excuse for her inabilities.

Isn't she now Patti Smith's DIL? She's certainly disappeared from the public eye since she wed.

Not only is she probably too busy making sandwiches for her hubby ,,, she's probably pregnant, too.

Let's see how happily-ever-after she'll get next to Stevie Nicks or Kate Bush.

Meg is objectively not a good drummer, but then neither is Micky Dolenz, and he's been making the part for 45 years.

Jack is a talented guitarist, but not so innovative that he's earned a place in the pantheon of all-time greats. And his titties are unattractive.

Neil Peart and Yngwie Malmsteen play what's appropriate for their genres and those of you disparaging them for it should think about that for a moment.

NeoCortex42: I had a bit more respect for him after watching It Might Get Loud. Granted, he was still seriously outclassed by the other two, but he held his own pretty well.

This. While his playing ISN'T as good as the others, he has the spirit of music...And, after all, isn't that what we really loved about Jimmy Page to begin with?

I thought just the opposite while I watched that. Edge's playing is very effects driven - his actual technical ability is very limited and while Page would have blown White off the stage in his prime, age and drugs and alcohol have taken their toll on his playing.

Edge and Page could both grab a guitar and play one of their many memorable riffs and people would pop up and name that tune. Jack White can only adjust his ridiculous hat and tie and slog through another sloppy rendition of a Son House song.

nickturn: ELF Radio: White Stripes, meh. They were probably the best of that weird crop of loser rock bands that were foisted upon us in the early 2000's by a bunch of aging rock critics who were tired of rap and electronic music and wanted the ROCK to come back in any way it could. Remember the Vines? The Hives? The Strokes? They were sold as the new Ramones, the new Stones, the next Nirvana. And they were all crap.

I'll never stop sneering at my old coworkers who came to me and said "oh, my god, the Strokes album is the best thing i've ever heard, i can't stop listening to it!" and two months later they disavowed ever liking it.

RIP fake crappy rock.

-goes to listen to Queen-

Marvelous 3 was the best late 90s-early 2000s rock band around... Sadly, they didn't last near long enough. Thankfully, the world still has the talents of Butch Walker.

I'd like to add The Organ to this list. An all female Cure-ish/Joy Division-ish sounding band.

Micky Dolenz can keep time and plays what's appropriate for the material. Dolenz also got better over time. Meg still drums at the same level she did 12 years ago, which is still below what a 10 year old can do in 3-4 months of training.
