Its working out fine for Al Franken. He's one of the most pro middle class senators there is. Over all, I am aware he fumbled it on SOPA.

Of course, anyone who she nominates is going to be asked if they know the state drink and if they can't answer the question, we can only assume that Governor Haley will withdraw them from consideration.

Saw an article on that; he'd become the first black Senator since 1976. And he wouldn't even be elected to the Senate.

"When I look at the U.S. Senate, I say to myself, you know what they could use?" Colbert said. "Another white guy."

While I think the REAL Stephen Colbert would good at being a senator. Hes incredibly smart plus being a near J.R.R. Tolkien Scholar is awesome. ( He had Peter Jackson asking him things on his show )

But it would mean that he would have to end his show.:( I look forward to the comedy he gets out it though

I think Colbert might make a good politician, and he might find a way to incorporate some amount of his act into his performance as a politician, but he's not, you know, actually right wing. Why would the right wing Haley be picking him?

What's the thought here, that he'd actually vote as his character?

2012-12-09 02:33:44 PM
I don't see any reason that he couldn't run, win, and continue to do the Colbert Report. Right?

Agreed. And while I hated SOPA as much as anybody, I think I can forgive a union actor for wanting to be paid for his work. SOPA was a horrible overreach and was clearly against the interest of consumers, but its worth remembering that the entertainment industry is one of America's most successful industries and supports excellent union wages and benefits for a huge number of people. People tend to look at the few actors who command huge salaries, or the studio execs who sometimes seem hellbent on finding the lowest common denominator and pushing further down, but from cameramen and writers to technicians and engineers, the industry supports excellent livelihoods for MANY people who never make "Page Six" or other gossip columns. It is absolutely in the best interests of America to make sure these American workers are paid for their work, and to try to prevent the Chinese from having DVDs for sale of OUR movies the week before the theatrical release.

Through the power of Google, I've located a source as a series of photographs called Understanding Joshua by Charlie White. The monster puppet common to series appears to represent male insecurity (one of the pictures is NSFW btw).

But it is only one vote.

He can do far more to inform and educate (and rally) the public from the airwaves than he can from Congress.

I think she's just having some fun with it, and taking it about as seriously as Colbert is. Who knows, maybe she's pulling a Colbert style thing in her role as right wing Governor. Think about it, she's Sikh, or was raised that way, was one her whole life. But now she's married to a Methodist and is suddenly a Methodist herself. I don't buy that kind of conversion.

She's totally farking with the state of South Carolina, and the Teabaggers in general.

2012-12-09 03:21:16 PM
17 years I lived in South Carolina, no one ever mentioned that we even had a state drink, much less it being milk. Not that I believe that's why she declined to appoint a left-wing comedian.

Colbert doesn't see race but people tell him the Senate is mostly white and he believes them because he's also been told that they own a lot of Jimmy Buffet records.
