(Yahoo)   Some important matchups today: Ravens at Redskins, Bears at Vikings, Saints at Giants, even Dolphins at 49ers. But most of the attention will be on Cowboys at Bengals for, sadly, all the wrong reasons. NFL, Week 14, early games start at 1pm   (sports.yahoo.com) divider line 3918

Chargers at Steelers is the only game I'm concerned with. After a loss to the underdog Browns, and an upset victory over the Ravens, I'm pretty sure we're going to blow this one, and then it's goodbye playoff chances.

Goodbye playoff chances? The Steelers can lose one more and still make the playoffs as long as it's not to the Bengals. 10 wins gets you in.

All the same, I don't think Pittsburgh loses this one. The Bolts are in full freefall and Pittsburgh is as healthy as they've been all season. Norv can't save his job this time.

Pittsburgh by 10.

I will be quite pleased if you prove me wrong. Should be a good game, in any case.

Riversface vs Ben's return?

Even with the few random injuries we still have, we got our major players in.

I'll go with AON's prediction. After all, he was spot on last week.

2012-12-09 09:18:04 AM
I also hope for a Steeler win and lots of Riversface during the game.

/GO STEELERS!

I'm in Cinci for the game. Yeah me! Go Bengals!

LET'S GO BUFFALO

they will play good enough for Luck to beat them on the final fourth quarter drive just to pad his stats

I've all but written off this season. Now I just want the Saints to troll everyone.

Enjoy the games, all. I'll probably show up drunk later and pee on the rug.

@ WAS -2.5 BWI 47.5
WAS is quietly, the 8th highest scoring offense in the league. Wow. BWI is the 8th stingiest defense. Both teams really need this game, as Balt hasn't wrapped up the North yet and WAS has a chance, baesd upon how Giants do vs Saints, to make a stab at the East. I'm gonna chug the RG3 kool aid and say WASH outright.

@CLE -7 MCI 38
Feels high, gonna pick chiefs to cover. no analysis here though.

@Pittsburgh -8 San Diego 39.5
Ben is back, huh? San Dog in a 0-4 tailspin and their season is over, as the Donks wrapped up the West last week. 8 seems a bit high, picking SD to cover.

@ IND -5.5 Tennessee 46.5
Indy outright.

NYJ -3 @ JAX 38.5
Gonna pick JAX just for the comedy. also, you have to wonder what Wrecks does if Sanchez sucks ass again.

MDW -3 @MSP 39

Didn't these two just play like, two weeks ago? Gonna pick Bears outright.

ATL -3.5 At Carolina 48
ATL arguably in a position to start resting players (ok, maybe too early, but still)....I think the line should be higher. CARO is 1-5 at home and ATL 5-1 OTR. I'll say ATL outright.

@ TPA -7.5 Philadelphia 47.5
the Bucs are theoretically in the hunt for a WC spot but I think they're too far back. Excluding ATL, who wrapped up the west, I count 8 teams with 6 wins (which TPA has) or better. That said, this is a game they must win to have any hope, so I'll say TPA outright.

@ Buffalo -3 St. Louis 42.5
The Rams are pretty damn scrappy. I've been saying all year how they are better than their record (now 5-6-1). rams 4-3 home, Rough Buff 2-5 OTR. STL OUTRIGHT. Moneyline, baby.

@ CIN -3.5 Dallas 46
yeeeshhhh........CIN, not unlike TPA, is theoretically alive in the WC race but they need this game. And Dallas, of course, who knows what they'll look like in light of yesterday's news. CIN outright.

@ SFO -11 MIA 38.5
MIA cover. one, the line is high this late and two, SFO has been hard to read the last few games. Last week needed OT to beat a scrappy Rams team, of course 4 weeks ago tied the same Rams team, then put a county jail asswhuppin' on Chicago, and then handily beat a questionable Saints team. I'm gonna pick MIA to cover here.

@ NYG-5 MSY 53
Gonna pick Saints to cover. NYG's annual November/December rope-a-dope is in full bloom and i think the Saints will heist this one.

And John Vilma's spent so much time in New York this will feel like a home game.

@ SEA -10 Arizona 35.5
Skelton gets the start. Insiders say it is because he has played @ Seattle before and will be better suited for the environment. By negative inference, the message seems to be they don't want to completely destory Lindley's mental makeup. Who knows? I think cover is the smart play here as 10 is a lot. Seattle, I've beens aying, I think takes the West and I think they win but 10 is a lot of points. and hopefully Dockett doesn't fark it up for us anymore.

and back to Lindley, christ.....he was a 6th round pick from noted football factory SAN DIEGO STATE (notable qb alumni: Kevin O'Connell, Brian Sipe (yay cleveland), Dan McGwire (you may know his brother Mark), Todd Santos) and he was making his second start and first road start last week. Hearing Mike and Mike crucify him for "not belonging on an NFL roster", that was bush league. While it might be true, cut the kid some slack.

@GRB -6.5 Detroit
Will Suh do something stupid? GRB outright (but for some reason, 6.5 seems maybe high.....and the Lions have nothing to play for so do they just try to spoil it?

This is a late parrot: LET'S GO BUFFALO

they will play good enough for Luck to beat them on the final fourth quarter drive just to pad his stats

Talk about disconnected, they're playing the rams this week. They will still lose.

It opened at CIN -2 is now at -3.5, but I don't know if that 1.5 swung after yesterday. And, the lines fluctuate anyways. so ican't tell you (although certainly it did impact betting, duh) how much is directly attributable to the incident.

PONIES!!1 won on Thursday, so all is right with the world. ^_^

Here are my picks for the other games:

1) Buffalo Bill silences the Lambs, enjoys some fava beans with a nice Chianti.

2) Atlanta slaughters the Panthers, uses Cam Newton's remains to make a Stradivarius.

3) Cowboys over Bengals, officially starting a trend of losing teams using human sacrifice to get victories.

4) Cleveland Rocks (the Chiefs)!

5) OTHER PONIES!!1

6) Jaguars "win" against the Jets, 4-3

7) Vikings slaughter the injured Bears, use field goal posts for kindling in a funeral pyre.

8) Steelers beat off the Chargers

9) Tampa Bay curb-stomps Philly

10) RG3 defeats Baltimore. Quoth the Raven, "Never more."

11) Niners fillet the Fish in Miami

12) New York Football Giants topple the A'int's

13) Seahawks feast on the Cardinals

14) PACKERRRRRS butcher the Lions on Sunday Night

15) While I'd LIKE to see the Texans win, Brady and the Pats take Houston to school on Monday Night. :-(

My best bets for Week 14 in my local pool (using Thursday morning spreads from the NY Post_:
AFC is getting no love if Baltimore is getting points against Washington. Fark that noise, Ravens +1.
Carolina is a trainwreck. Falcons -3.5.
Risky play, I know, but I have faith in the Texans. For once, maybe literally for once all season, Monday Night Football is a game worth watching. Texans +3.5.

Won't be doing much posting, as this computer's fan is literally dead, so I get shut downs with no notice after using it for 1 - 1.5 hours. Also means no streaming red zone :(
So I'll probably just be going to a bar.

Earguy: Too much handwringing in the DUI thread, so I dare not ask it there...what does the incident and its impact on the team do to the odds?

Well, considering Brent (the driver) was likely starting at NT today in place of an injured Ratliff, that means they'll either be starting a 3rd stringer or they'll have to move someone else to fill the hole. And between Ratliff being out off-and-on several times this year, and injuries to the ILBs, they were already having a hard time stopping the run.

Dallas has been hit with injury after injury on defense this year. When it gets to the point that you are signing guys off of the street just to plug holes, you know it has been a bad year, injury wise.

Bears/Vikings: This is going to get ugly. Ponder is going to struggle and the boo birds will rain heavy. Frazier will be forced to pull him to appease the home crowd, and that will be the end of the Christian Ponder era in Minnesota.

So was Jerry Brown the kid who got to play a week or so ago? I remember watching a game and I swear I thought he was in it, and people were talking about him, but the last two weeks are kind of a haze of studying and papers and stress, so I don't really remember.

I wanted to see the disaster that is the NY Jets, because they are at least in the Pats' division. But I get Steelers/Bolts. I highly doubt the Chargers win that game so I'd rather watch the Jets' circus.

I certainly hope you're right, but I get the impression this game is going to be a let down for the Redskins (not a trap game), as I don't think the Redskisn defense can contain Flacco and the passing game of Baltimore. I'm aware of the Ravens home/road splits, but as Di Atribe pointed out in the last NFL thread, FedEx is more "down the road" than "on the road" for JoeBert and the Elio's gang.

Redskins Run D vs. Ray Rice should be fascinating. I just worry in that the Redskins tackle one on one about as well as the Chargers.

Redskins still have no secondary, and they lost a CB to Adderall suspension, so it's now even less than zero.

I'm hoping for a Redskins win, but I've had this one penciled in as a L on the schedule since Week 1.

Also, WHO DEY! and WHO DAT! Would both be great results this week.
