love love love the Donnas. I'll have to play some of their stuff soon.

Bathia_Mapes: That's makes me cold, just looking at it. Glad you made it home safely.

tinfoil-hat maggie: Yea I wouldn't drive in that if I didn't have to.

Glad you made it home safe and dumplings sounds good : )

It's not too bad, but it's blowing about 30mph, so the visibility is low. there's actually enough snow on the ground to give traction over the compressed snow/ice that was previously there, so it's easier to get around on a crutch and one leg that won't bend.

that's sea level. tomorrow morning, I get to drive my 14 year old kid up to the ski area at 1000 foot elevation so he can hike up another 1500 feet to the top to go snowboarding. here is a photo of him today:

Looks like he's having a lot of fun.

as a kid growing up in Oklahoma, I wanted nothing more than to grow up in a mountain town. I spent a total of 7 days my entire high school at ski slopes and was so blown away. I wanted to move to Colorado after high school but college and life got in the way. When my oldest kid was born, I thought, how can I make sure he grows up somewhere cool that's not Oklahoma? So when he was 1 and a half, we moved to Alaska. Max, pictured, was born here. We found out the day after we got off the ferry from Washington state that we were going to have him, so he's an entirely Alaskan kid. he recently changed his religion on facebook from Catholic to Snowboarding, which made me all kinds of happy,

I've always encouraged them to climb and/or jump off of things:
