Millions of dollars a year. Entourages. People willing to do their bidding on demand...

AND NONE OF THESE ASSHOLES THINK TO HIRE A DRIVER

R.A.Danny: There need to be more laws against drinking and driving.
Make them both illegal, raise the taxes on booze and gasoline, and ban all fast cars.

Please explain how many DUI incidents involve cars going "fast"...IE 140+ mph. Since almost all cars have this ability save for high end and supercars. I'd like to know where your farked up line of reasoning goes.

The rest of your argument is ok at best, but will never happen. Judges and Lawyers drink like sailors, and they don't want any part of a law that would stop that.

Does it? Is that your impression or do you have data to back this up?

dlp211: rickythepenguin: jesus.

So is Bob Costas going to call for Prohibition?

Hey, remember when Bob Costas called for gun control, yea, neither do I. Words have meanings and a change of culture is not the same as instituting new laws.

"People should be able to own guns for their own protection. Obviously, those who are hunters," Costas added. "The access to guns is too easy in some cases. I don't see any reason why a citizen should be able to arm himself, as they can in some states and some cases, arm themselves in ways that only the police or the military should able to - to have a virtual militia purchased by mail order or purchased at gun shows. Why do you need a semi-automatic weapon? What possible use is there for a citizen to have a semi-automatic weapon?"

Yeah no calls to ban anything there (hint: semi-automatics). No to mention the fact that Costas has no farking clue what he's talking about but then again neither do any of the gun grabber congress critters so why should he.

2012-12-08 06:37:24 PM
Yeah, odds Bob Costas is gonna make this all about himself as well?

The Guitar Solo from Ride the Lightning: Yet another example of the thug culture rampant in the NBA.

...wait, this was in the NFL? Isolated incident! Isolated incident! Like all the other ones.

And again I'll just point out that one NFL roster, including practice-squad players, probably has the equivalent of 8-10 NBA rosters. Also, the league has more draftees, more undrafted free agents, more player turnover, and shorter player careers, ergo it has an even GREATER proportion of ex-players than the NBA.

Of course, NFL athletes think they are invincible. So, yeah, that is a culture problem.

Maybe he should have learned that drinking and driving don't mix from this guy.

This isn't even about you or your pet issues that get you all outraged, but I can't think of a single reason that any of us need a semi-automatic weapon.

And ANOTHER THING. We don't know the details of this incident. We don't know how drunk he was. If he was flabbergasted drunk or was barely over the limit. The area where this occurred is heavily under construction, with traffic changes happening all the time. I'm not sure exactly where the incident occurred, though. The article I read said the posted speed limit was 45 mph & he was clearly driving far over the limit. We don't know whether either of them were wearing a seat belt either. There are a lot of questions & it happened less than 24 hours ago, so my assessment would be that none of us have enough information to be gettin all high & mighty.

Only one thing we do know, someone lost their life to drunk driving and the other guy is facing the consequences.

Do you know what a semi-automatic weapon is? You're not one of those we should only be allowed muskets people, are you? Also alcohol only exists to get people drunk and I can't think of a single reason any of us need to be drunk. Remove alcohol from this equation and Jerry Brown would still be alive. Right?

I hate when people refer to drinking and driving deaths as "accidents".

It's never an accident. You make the decision to drive drunk.

IAmRight: MoeSzyslak: Also alcohol only exists to get people drunk

I know I know. I love alcohol as much as anyone. Just pointing out the absurdity of some arguments. The alcohol didn't make him drive he chose to and the gun didn't make the other guy kill HE CHOSE TO. Millions of people drink and don't get behind the wheel and millions of people own guns and don't kill anyone. The people that chose to commit the unlawful acts are the problem, not the instruments they chose to use.

Cars should have speed limiters on them based on the state that they are registered in.
No reason a car should go faster than the speed limit.
Besides it saves on gas which will stop global warming.

It doesn't farking matter how much over the limit he was.

The guy is still dead.

Or do you think the guy is less dead if the driver was at the limit?

It's amazing responding to a call that the driver is still able to perform (and fail) field sobriety tests and the passengers in the car are dead.

Since the car rolled, I'd venture a guess that the passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt and may have been ejected from the vehicle.

Oh, just change "Cars" to "Guns" and you'll get my point.

Guns have one reason for existing - to kill. But I suppose that's not a significant difference between them and cars or alcohol.

IAmRight: Guns have one reason for existing - to kill. But I suppose that's not a significant difference between them and cars or alcohol.

Yeah it's not possible to use a gun without killing. Also sometimes things need killing. Alcohol exists solely for people to get inebriated. I've yet to hear a compelling reason why people need to be inebriated.

You can show up to scenes of utter destruction and there is the driver, up and staggering about. His friends are mush in the car.

Conventional wisdom used to be (and might still be) that if you're drunk you don't tense up so you absorb the impact better. However, his teammate was reportedly also drunk, so I'm going with the seatbelt theory until there's more information.

Cars kill over 40,000 people a year. That's a huge number. People are obviously incapable of driving safely. We really need to put a stop to this.

No you don't. You can put holes in paper, clay, and bowling pins with a slingshot. But then you might actually have to have some coordination and athleticism.

You can take a pencil and do as much damage to a paper target as you do with a bullet. More satisfying, too.
