Yes, but will the new TARDIS come equipped with one of those new TARDIS Fridge thingies inside or would that be like dividing the universe by zero while crossing the streams?

Somebody refresh my memory -- when was the last time they changed it? Was it when Matt Smith took over, or before then?

When Matt Smith came on. I thought it was a new TARDIS with a new incarnation. But I know Matt Smith is staying another 2 years at least. So....this is weird.

They changed the desktop again? Yay!

Well that isn't surprising, it usually happens when the star of the show leaves and now Amy Pond is gone so...

... interior, subby. Troll about the new series if you want, but don't troll about that.

/though I would applaud a move that daring.

Not really; they changed the TARDIS control room for Tom Baker's 2nd series (the really cool wood and brass
Edwardian styled one), but had to change it back because all the fine wood warped during the break between
series 2 and 3.

In theory, The Doctor could change the control room whenever he wants; the way its described in THE DOCTOR'S
WIFE, the process of creating a control room is not unlike applying a desktop manager in X (for all you Linux-y
types out there).

I'm really surprised they didn't make a more dramatic change when Smith came on the show. The idea of the interior being the interior of a living being was left over from RTD.

It changed significantly multiple times in the Pertwee and Baker era, and at least once (albeit more subtly) in the Davison era.

2012-12-08 08:51:12 PM
Does the other control room still exist? In The Masque of Mandragora the Doctor and Sarah Jane are exploring the Tardis when they come across the dusty, wood paneled control room (which had a familiar old flute lying on the control panel and the third doctor's outfit hanging nearby).

The last scene of the last episode of Doctor Who ever features an old man in a suit, sitting in an imposing, uncomfortable looking chair, on which you can see the word Tardin (the manufacturers name) etched on its large metal wheels. He's spent every night of his lonely life sitting in front of his big bay windows, staring at the stars and letting the candles melt down. Tonight is different, he thinks. And his tired brown eyes slowly close.

They also switched TARDIS consoles midway through Davidson's run, and if you count the TV movie, McCoy's Doctor did a huge control room overhaul during his time. I'm assuming from the prequel to the Christmas episode that the Doctor has pretty much turned into a hermit after losing Rory and Amy, so there may be long period of time between Angels Take Manhattan and the Christmas episode.

Technically they didn't change it, they were using the "Secondary" control room for that season.

Well, you have to admit that Smith hasn't exactly had an abundance of great scripts to work from and his doctor has been tied to the same snooty, petulant companion since his incarnation. I'm willing to keep trying to like Smith, but I'd love to see what he can do with a different companion. I'm sure Smith is a fine actor, but his Doctor vacillates between stupider than a squid and a testy, above average intelligenced squid.

I watched the Doctor Who movie from the '90's the other night. The one with the 8th Doctor that everyone hates. I had to admit to myself that it wasn't the worst Who I've ever seen, largely due to Matt Smith. Well, and the floaty, firey Jesus Doctor story line from a few years back.

I'll go one better and suggest Eccleston with Moffatt running the show.

So, curious...

Oswin's first episode ended with her pretty much breaking the fourth wall, and telling us to remember her.

But now its NOT her, but another girl who looks like her?

I know Martha and Amy both appeared on the show as other characters before returning as companions, but this bothers me.

Why bother with a great set up and then ignore it. Or are they going for a wibbly wobbly tomey wimey thing.

I don't see why so many people rag on Tennant. Everyone says he got annoying, maybe there were a couple episodes but I never even noticed. He and Eccelston were what I expected the Doctor to be. I wonder how popular the show would be if it had started with Matt Smith. He's ok as the Doctor, but he has no enthusiasm most of the time. People talk down on him and he just lets it happen. Maybe it's the writing's fault, but I like most of the episodes Smith is in, it's just him I find bland and too dorky(most of the time). I don't know, he just doesn't have what ever I saw in Eccelston and Tennant. Kind of a larger than life fire inside them. Where Smith's portrayal is more dopey and less clever.

I read somewhere she could be the Doctor's daughter Jenny regenerated. But I haven't really thought about it...I don't like reading about future episodes/plot twists. Which I already have that one and the fact that this chick is coming back in my head. Oh and now a new TARDIS. This is why I was glad I didn't start watching the show until this summer, I didn't know anything. Now I'm caught up and stumble upon stuff with spoilers. I'd rather just figure it out in my head or talk about theories with people rather than read confirmed facts on the net.

Among the new shows, I think the Doctor has simply been getting more cheerful and lighter with time. With Eccleston, he had just been through a traumatic experience and was largely dark and bitter. Tennant was still angry, and slipped into sorrow easily, but didn't shove people away quite as much. Smith, however, is more willing to roll with whatever happens, and so is cheerful and witty. His Doctor reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I didn't like Doctor Who the first time I saw it because Eccleston was so much of a jerk, but once I came to love Matt Smith as the Doctor, I was able to go back and enjoy the progression in the Doctor's attitude over the past few years.

/The old stuff is fun, too, but I've seen less of that.

If you have Netflix they recenly added 75 episodes of the classics. I plan on starting that soon...cheerful and lighter are ok, and maybe Tennant's Doctor destroying the Master and the Timelords on his exit was symbolization of the Doctor destroying his baggage so he could move on. I just think they did too much at once. Doctor's major personality change(a little too geeky for me) and the huge "improvement" in production/budget. Also, BTVS? What? I freely admit I love that show, and don't see that at all. lol

Ewwww. Moffat writes great episodes, but he's NOT a great show runner. This current season has been painful to watch thus far. He's run the Angels in to the ground, made me grow sick of Amy Pond, and spent months trying to show us how awesome he is (and failing).

That. Somehow, this might be linked back to the Doctor killed in the Impossible Astronaut.
