Shostie: About this time in 2005 I was still picking up the pieces of my life after Hurricane Katrina.

I was lurking at this time, and I saw all the Katrina threads. Man, some Farkers were just plain vicious and unfeeling. Chiefly irritating was the ignorantMonday-morning-quarterbacking of the whole situation as though they knew anything about it aside from looting videos on CNN. So it turned me off of Fark for a while. Think I came back sometime in '07 and finally signed up some time late that year, because every other large comment-driven site is sort of like a bunch of retards on a field trip.

To any lurkers reading: I highly recommend lurking for a good while before posting to Fark. This place has it's own insular jokes, sense of humor, etc. If you don't "get it," you'll be eaten alive.

I remember.. I remember it like it was yesterday..

I was living the high life, submitting questionnaires into what I should do as I had just discovered during a bachelor party the groom engaging in coitus with a goat on TFD, via Anon-DIT because that's what everybody who had a SERIOUS PROBLEM did back then. I remember those were simpler times.. when cat pictures were actually funny.. when the owls were still only just becoming completely obnoxious..

Shortly after crafting my latest Anon-DIT, a foray into the inner workings of humanity via a "SERIOUS DEBATE" on if two midget Spartans or a Viking would win in a fight.. the site started to crash. "No", I told myself. I shook the blasphemous thought from my head as if it were stagnant water in my ear beginning to itch. "I was almost done!". Little did I know the chaos that was to ensue.

In the following two hour period a slew of new features were being enacted. "Web 2.0" was the reason the Admins gave us. "It's more stream-lined! User friendly! Tabs! Buttons! Colors! Stop living in the past!" they cried from atop their mountain. Of course this is what they would tell us. It wouldn't have any impact on their lives.. just business as usual for the "Gods on Olympus". They continued to shake the web design apart.. pixelquakes shattered the sidebar and cracked the logo. A hailstorm of features came crashing upon our unwanting heads, no matter what shelter we took it was inevitable. A few users even foolishly tried to replicate the supposed "out dated", but still WANTED stylization. I remember.

After the few hours or so that they shook OUR Earth they lived not upon, we were simply told that we'll "Get Over It". Thousands of butthurt netizens shook their tiny fists at their keyboard, claiming that they'll QUIT FARK FOREVER, if only for the HORRIBLE way Jeff treated them. Even our noble-persons were at a loss. Even they, who held their heads high through site designs before, and stared gloriously into certain death, could offer no solace That was the day Argh_Dammit left our ranks. His spirit broken, we wandered slowly away, presumably to die alone and at peace as ancient beasts often do.

Once the dust cleared, we saw a few familiar faces. Log_Jammin was always somebody I recognized. I always looked up to him from afar, though he would never recognize me. You see, I was never part of that elite rank, though I often fantasized about being welcome at the Table of Feasts in the Great Hall. When BXRWXR pulled him from the rubble and suggested he "Eat a Bowl of Dicks", I knew we would be okay. We would SURVIVE this thing. I haven't seen BXRWXR since, but the wrinkles in the face of Log_Jammin I think could tell the story, if we only looked close enough.

If only...

I was naked, in the mezzanine of the Trump Casino Atlantic City, the Donald was screaming at me to come back and talk to him before I did something we both regret. I picked up my leather boy scout uniform from the floor and walked out the door. We've never spoken since.

Do I have regrets? Of course, who wouldn't. I think what hurts the most is the way The Donald has taken to politics so alien from the warm, loving, tender man I knew.

Fark you Subby, for making me remember this!

Subby, four years is a long time to hold a grudge for a redlight. Let it go, man, let it go.

Subby, I'm picking up what you're laying down.
Yes, those greenlit posts back in 2005 were documenting events each at the level of John Lennon's death, if not more world-shattering.
For those of you who are mocking Subby, see ekdiko4's post above, or see BBC on this day (Dec 8th)

Why nobody started this on December 7th, I have no idea.

Somacandra: Sorry Submitter. I remember where I was when I heard John Lennon was killed on December 8th and watching the news reports. Nothing else on this day comes remotely close to that.

THIS.

Not only that, it was my sister's 11th birthday, and my mom was a huge Beatles fan, and John was her favorite.

Thanks a lot, Mark David Chapman, you asshole.

Obviously, you just barely dodged a mind-destroying experience.

Oh, I was reading fark threads in 2005 and I vaguely remember this.  I just didn't get around to creating an account until later and that was because I wanted to be able to post comments.

I've been Farking for a goddamn decade and I haven't been offered a modmin position. Oh, the humanity...

Lol. I was going to drop a month on you, but it looks like someone beat me to the punch :p

Thank you anyway, it's the thought that counts

Meh, have you at least seen a real, live boob? Not side-boob...that doesn't count. Because titties are all that matter in life, and Total Fark ranks waaaaaaaaaaay below them.
