I was naked, in the mezzanine of the Trump Casino Atlantic City, the Donald was screaming at me to come back and talk to him before I did something we both regret. I picked up my leather boy scout uniform from the floor and walked out the door. We've never spoken since.

Do I have regrets? Of course, who wouldn't. I think what hurts the most is the way The Donald has taken to politics so alien from the warm, loving, tender man I knew.

Fark you Subby, for making me remember this!

I was on fark, wondering what the deal was.

But i was also wondering how the hell i was going to get home, as the oil depot fire which is a newsflash halfway down that list of headlines was a mile from where i was then living. The explosion destroyed offices within half a mile of it and my flatmate (who was at home) said he thought a car had crashed through the window, it was so loud. I was away visiting my parents, and the police closed off all access to Hemel Hempstead just as I was getting ready to head home. It was massively inconvenient.

Shostie: About this time in 2005 I was still picking up the pieces of my life after Hurricane Katrina.

I was lurking at this time, and I saw all the Katrina threads. Man, some Farkers were just plain vicious and unfeeling. Chiefly irritating was the ignorantMonday-morning-quarterbacking of the whole situation as though they knew anything about it aside from looting videos on CNN. So it turned me off of Fark for a while. Think I came back sometime in '07 and finally signed up some time late that year, because every other large comment-driven site is sort of like a bunch of retards on a field trip.

To any lurkers reading: I highly recommend lurking for a good while before posting to Fark. This place has it's own insular jokes, sense of humor, etc. If you don't "get it," you'll be eaten alive.

December 8th, 2005, I was home immobile after some bone grafting surgery to one of my legs and my dog's skin disease (50% skin itchiness, 50% nerves) was in full blown effect; so my ex at the time had to take him to the vet while I tried to decorate the christmas tree sitting down. P brought the dog back home and poor baby was shaved across his back half and the skin was so horribly infected he had this suran wrap type stuff on it he looked like zombie dog. It was pitiful :(

A year ago today, I was hanging out with a former marine, 6'6" 225, awesome guy, watching a movie and drinking beers at my place. He came up behind me to hug me when all the sudden his whole body fell in a deep sigh. I asked him what was wrong. His response: "You. just. flinched.", in a pain-filled low voice. I didn't even realize I had flinched, it had become completely involuntary. A month previous a different ex had been convicted of placing me in the hospital. Former marine and I didn't last. Makes me sad, still. I really liked him.

Subby, I'm picking up what you're laying down.
Yes, those greenlit posts back in 2005 were documenting events each at the level of John Lennon's death, if not more world-shattering.
For those of you who are mocking Subby, see ekdiko4's post above, or see BBC on this day (Dec 8th)

Why nobody started this on December 7th, I have no idea.

I remember.. I remember it like it was yesterday..

I was living the high life, submitting questionnaires into what I should do as I had just discovered during a bachelor party the groom engaging in coitus with a goat on TFD, via Anon-DIT because that's what everybody who had a SERIOUS PROBLEM did back then. I remember those were simpler times.. when cat pictures were actually funny.. when the owls were still only just becoming completely obnoxious..

Shortly after crafting my latest Anon-DIT, a foray into the inner workings of humanity via a "SERIOUS DEBATE" on if two midget Spartans or a Viking would win in a fight.. the site started to crash. "No", I told myself. I shook the blasphemous thought from my head as if it were stagnant water in my ear beginning to itch. "I was almost done!". Little did I know the chaos that was to ensue.

In the following two hour period a slew of new features were being enacted. "Web 2.0" was the reason the Admins gave us. "It's more stream-lined! User friendly! Tabs! Buttons! Colors! Stop living in the past!" they cried from atop their mountain. Of course this is what they would tell us. It wouldn't have any impact on their lives.. just business as usual for the "Gods on Olympus". They continued to shake the web design apart.. pixelquakes shattered the sidebar and cracked the logo. A hailstorm of features came crashing upon our unwanting heads, no matter what shelter we took it was inevitable. A few users even foolishly tried to replicate the supposed "out dated", but still WANTED stylization. I remember.

After the few hours or so that they shook OUR Earth they lived not upon, we were simply told that we'll "Get Over It". Thousands of butthurt netizens shook their tiny fists at their keyboard, claiming that they'll QUIT FARK FOREVER, if only for the HORRIBLE way Jeff treated them. Even our noble-persons were at a loss. Even they, who held their heads high through site designs before, and stared gloriously into certain death, could offer no solace That was the day Argh_Dammit left our ranks. His spirit broken, we wandered slowly away, presumably to die alone and at peace as ancient beasts often do.

Once the dust cleared, we saw a few familiar faces. Log_Jammin was always somebody I recognized. I always looked up to him from afar, though he would never recognize me. You see, I was never part of that elite rank, though I often fantasized about being welcome at the Table of Feasts in the Great Hall. When BXRWXR pulled him from the rubble and suggested he "Eat a Bowl of Dicks", I knew we would be okay. We would SURVIVE this thing. I haven't seen BXRWXR since, but the wrinkles in the face of Log_Jammin I think could tell the story, if we only looked close enough.

If only...

No no no, it was a very new relationship, very soon after the conviction, although about 4 months after the incident. I honestly don't know the exact reason why it didn't last; best I can guess would be a few reasons in a conglomerate. He knew about the ex, the flinching towards him even if involuntary hurt him and we stopped seeing eachother immediately afterwards. A month later he reinitiated the relationship stating his job as an excuse for the absence (he's gone about half the year on business), then 3-4 months later it was over again... right before the ex was released from prison, and I was offered... well... nothing in a response. Not certain, though the educated guesses in cahoots together.... shrug.

It's Ms. and you are very welcome.  Now, you can click on the TotalFark tab and see everything that's been submitted, you can check out TotalFark Discussion (aka TFD).  To your right (usually near the top of page) you'll see something that says "Greenlit links".  It has both links that have been posted to their designated tabs (dark green links) and ones waiting (light green).  Since you have TF you can read threads & make comments before the non-TFers.  If you're into photoshop, you get access to those threads before they go live (they're under Contests).

Part of the running gag was there there were a ton of threads approved that day with this same theme.

Not only is it noticeable if you clicked the link, but it has been mentioned several times in this thread.

Yes and no. The individual posts have time stamps on them, and are archived in individual threads. But thread groupings by date are accessed by the week. You can check it out for yourself in two ways:

1) From the home page, scroll down to the end of the headlines. There's a link there to look at the archives. You'll notice that they are arranges by week.
2) Click the link for this thread.

Bathia_Mapes: BigLuca: Bathia_Mapes: BigLuca: dahmers love zombie: Bathia_Mapes: St_Francis_P: Bathia_Mapes: I didn't have an account yet.

Obviously, you just barely dodged a mind-destroying experience.

Oh, I was reading fark threads in 2005 and I vaguely remember this.  I just didn't get around to creating an account until later and that was because I wanted to be able to post comments.

I've been Farking for a goddamn decade and I haven't been offered a modmin position. Oh, the humanity...

////ok better now

Hell, I've been here almost 9 years and have never even SEEN totalfark.

Knock yourself out. :-)

My God, it's full of stars..

Thank you, Ms/Mr Mapes, you are awesome :-)

It's Ms. and you are very welcome.

Reading that description...like describing color to a blind person...

kim jong-un: HaHa guy ban day?

To be honest, I'm still not quite over it, but HaHa Guy day was both hilarious and a finger to the powers that be (cough...Jeff)

Telephone Sanitizer Second Class: I remember that day. I couldn't see Logan Airport because my balls were stuck in a chair and my homeschooled girlfriend wasn't there to help me. Luckily, I got over it, and got to the gym 26 minutes later, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Did you get a hot cocoa sampler box?

Southwest Airlines Flight 1248 on December 8th 2005.

OH MY GOD. Look at those gas prices.

That was the one in Burbank, CA back in 2000. The one in Midway ended in an intersection next to a residential neighborhood.

Which makes it all the more amazing to see how cheap gas was in Burbank when that happened.

Tragic Day in History: December 8, 1987. I was born.

Seriously a lot of weird crap happens on my birthday:

We entered WWII.
John Lennon got shot.
Airplane skids off the runway and almost plows into a neighborhood in the middle of a snowstorm.
Mary gets knocked up by God (For the Catholics out there)

CapeFearCadaver: BigLuca: CapeFearCadaver: today, I was hanging out with a former marine, 6'6" 225, awesome guy, watching a movie and drinking beers at my place.

I read that twice. I ... don't get it.

Sorry. Glance at this thread and you might, if you really want to: Link

If still not, I'll try to explain better... been a rough day and I know I'm not making as much sense as I could. Sorry.

I "get it". I used to be so traumatized that if I was sitting on the couch, and someone reached over to the coffee table to pick up their drink, I'd instinctively cover my face. And there would be people who'd laugh at me and ask "What's wrong with you?", because they didn't know my history.

You shouldn't pine for marine-guy. If he interpreted your flinching as some kind of insult to himself he wasn't worth keeping.

I finally met a gentle person who understood that my flinching at every move wasn't a reflection on him, but a reflection of what I'd been through. With his love, and after much counseling, I don't do that anymore. I hope that you have found a gentle love, or at least are able to trust again, and that you don't either.

December 8th, 2005 was much like any other summer's day in Farkistan and Drew Curtis, a file clerk at an insurance company, was on his way to work as usual when - nothing happened!

slayer199: Sim Tree: I'm guessing that was the day Drew changed over the site to the newer, current format. People royally freaked out over it, posting 'I fear change' and similar sillyness, some in jest and some... not. Someone went as far as to (more like? No, wait) went as far as to write a stylesheet you could download that reverted fark to the older format.

Different day:

Witty Comment: I haven't seen BXRWXR since, but the wrinkles in the face of Log_Jammin I think could tell the story, if we only looked close enough.

It's a story alright. a story from the very pit of hell itself!
