Credit card was maxed at $150? Looks like a porn addiction isn't your only problem.

2012-12-08 07:11:44 AM
At least its better then trying to blame a virus for adding all those purchases to your credit card between midnight and 3am.

Maxing out a credit card after $150? Worse than paying for porn.

I dunno, I have a very low cap card for online use, because even the best of sites get hacked occasionally (just think of Sony and whatnot a year or two ago). But who the hell pays for porn anymore? Must have been for the kinky stuff, I guess...

I had more then $150 in credit when then gave away free 2litres in Mountain Dew and bags of M&M's for signing up for credit cards.

wippit: People still pay for porn on the internet?

Of course they do. It's easy to forget that most if not all of the people you find on Fark and the like have a pretty good idea about how to use the internets, better than most.

There are people who pay for porn online.
Or reply UNSUBSCRIBE to their spam.
Or worse, actually buy things from spammers.
They think they'll get a free ipad for filling out a few offers from selected sponsors.
Happily install useful toolbars.
Click on the monkey to win a free virus.
Fwd: anything and everything to everyone.
Are unable to log in to Facebook without searching Google for "facebook login"^
Not only permit the Geek Squad within ten feet of their computer, but actually pay them to do it.
Stupidly dare /b/ to track down their personal information.

And, it appears, open a Skype chat with a stranger on a porn site.

Note to self: avoid Arkansas Meth Babes in Heat when surfing for porn. And certainly don't use Skype for a two-way interaction.

This reminds me of a story I was told a couple weeks ago about this guy I know who got this virus while he was supposedly reading about Russian/US ties to weapons or something. He called the FBI about it because he didn't want to be arrested and wanted to make sure it was legit. He thought he "uncovered" something he wasn't supposed to see and was caught...

Heh! Back when I was a 12-year-old hacker we'd spoof each other with messages like these for a larf. Hard to think people take this seriously. They let anyone buy a computer nowadays.

/it was harder to spoof someone in the old days when your target was using a Commie 64 with a 300 baud modem to access a dialup text-only BBS
//maybe we should bring back dialup and BBSes as a "Beginners' Internet"

No way. That's totally legit. It's a well known fact that the FBI only accepts MoneyPak.

Ten years ago at a family gathering for Thanksgiving, one of the married couple cousins was having an argument over the husband running up huge credit card bills for on-line porn. After talking with her, I determined that she was not so much upset about him looking at porn, but him spending money they did not have to look at porn. So I told him "Let me show you how to find on-line porn for free" and they have been happily married ever since.

I work my miracles when I can.

Mother in law got one of those money pak FBI messages. Even after all these years and me telling her about the different scams. She fell for one (thankfully I got to her before she sent any money) where supposedly money left to her by a relative was tied up in a bank in Greenwich. For one I told her, the "relative's" last name was her dead husband's last name. I pointed out, surely she wasn't the only living next of kin he had other relatives out there. Secondly, the "bank" was sending her emails that if you looked at the ip headers originated in New York at an ungodly hour of the night when most banks should be closed. And the icing on the cake was the "official" letter they included from the FBI targeting her money laundering because she had taken longer than usual to respond. Heck it looked like someone had taken a knockoff version of PS and cut and pasted the FBI logo onto a word document.

/sadly even after many many attempts at teaching her good versus bad I still have to look at her computer periodically because she has installed something that has hijacked her system. One of her major faults: She doesn't read the fine print and will just click away.

How to stop from getting blackmailed for looking at porn:

1. Tell everyone you look at porn.

Simple?

MFC, Camfrog, Chaturbate, or livejasmin?

I don't visit those sites except out of morbid curiosity. Every model immediately asks if you want a Skype show, some of them as soon as you go into their room. Most of them are too nasty to stay in the room, much less pay actual money.

Can't he man up and dispute the charges?

Back in the day. Identity theft was not the same thing back then. It was not such a clearly dumb act as it would be today.
