Screw that -- Purple Door made Chocolate Whiskey ice cream today.

Brb, I have to get there before they close...

Subby, you're starting off with the false premise that mushrooms are bad.

You probably can't cry for your taste, so I will cry for it.

You're welcome.

Not a mushroom, but I had homemade black-truffle vanilla ice cream once at a restaurant. It worked even though it shouldn't have, and it had large bits of truffle still in the ice cream. It was also hella expensive.

I friggin' love shiatake mushroom pizza.

It makes me hard.

I'm not joking.

CSB: One time a buddy and I made tea out of a huge gallon ziploc baggy of dried liberty caps. Tripping balls for hours - so farked up. Ice cream might be good though.

Its got to be better than postage stamp flavored ice cream.

Humphrey Slocombe has a mushroom flavor in their rotation (it's also in their book). I personally don't like mushrooms so it isn't very high on my "list of flavors to make" but if I ever make it to their store I'd be more than willing to try it.

One of the other "weird" flavors in their book (prosciutto) is one of my favorites. It is yummy! It has this awesome salty/sweet thing going on.

All mushrooms are edible ... some only once.

I love mushrooms, but I'll be damned if I ever eat mushroom ice cream. What a waste of a bowl of ice cream. Besides, shrooms are low calorie, and I'd be eating a low-calorie flavor with lots of calories, and that's just stupid. What's next, spinach ice cream?

I had bacon ice cream at the fair. T'was disappointing.

When I was a kid, I hated a lot of foods. As an adult, I learned to enjoy most of them.

I still can't stand mushrooms. It's like dirt-flavored tofu. All the terrible texture of tofu with the blech taste of dirt.

How about mushroom clouds? Seriously, Russia, if Syria is that farming important to end the world over, just do it already. Sick of your threats.

/sorry. I'm in a mood.

I adore mushrooms, (not the drug ones these days) but I don't think I would eat that and I've eaten red bean ice cream.

I feel much the same way. I gave an honest effort to try them several ways, and each was either a horrific texture or flavorless. As an adult, I snack on vegetables all the time. Mushrooms are verboden, though.

Mushroom ice cream could actually work. Not those lousy ubiquitous white mushrooms but ones with actual flavor.

Mushrooms serve one purpose.

To be stuffed with beef or pork at China House. And cooked in oil and butter.

guess you've never had squid ink ice cream.

Strawberries are low calorie, too. I personally don't care for it, but it's one of the most popular flavors in the world.

From the article, the mushrooms were candy caps, which taste like maple syrup.

my recent csb

theToadWoman and I were at the asian supermarket and she grabbed a tub of what she thought was mango ice cream. It turns out it was cheese ice cream. After checking the tubes cheese ice cream is quite popular in the Philippines. After trying it though I don't think it will catch on here. The ice cream was all right but there was chunks of processed cheese (think frozen velvetta) all throughout that gave an i"interesting" taste to say the least.

If mushrooms are kosher I'll bet a small sum of cash money money that Max and Mina's of Flushing been had mushroom flavor, somewhere between the beer- and pickle-flavored ones and behind the lox ice cream.

mmmm..candy caps...did those with Jim Morrison in the Tibetan Highlands in the early 70's.

Chunks of meat would be horrible. But pureed horse carpaccio ice cream . . . I could probably eat that.

I can see it working, no problem. Truffles / morels / chantrelles et al in a cream sauce, awesome. Only this one is cold not hot.

There is a big gelato shop in east van that has hundreds of flavours. When I go there I try sample spoons of cheddar and mushroom and avocado and Brie with pear and corn and tuna belly.... and then I get a scoop of cherry on a scoop of vanilla in a cone.

Cuz really, on a hot summer night you don't want a double scoop of squid ink on tomato basil, right!?

My thinking is that ice cream is very similar to bread, just substitute the wheat with cold and change the proportions some. If it tastes good in bread, it has a good chance of working in ice cream.

I'm also curious. Parsley + garlic + butter portabellos, thrown on a pizza = awesome.
