Where is the 'Weird News Quiz' for today/this week?

HOTY season. IIRC, Unfreakable runs that too. They're kind of busy this time of year.

/Was nominated once. Only have 2 Greenlights after 6 years. Only posted about 30 links, so, hey - I think I'm batting a pretty good average.

I'm new, HOTY is Headline of the Year? What is IIRC ??

HOTY = Headline of the Year.  IIRC = If I remember correctly.  And yes, Unfreakable runs both.

Headine of the Year has a main page category.  We're currently on Round 1 of that, with voting until we get down to 5 finalists.  Then there will be voting on the sub-tabs...politics, entertainment, sports, geek.

Everyone see why TF'ers win every year? We do? GOOD.

/...40below really does run the site, though. Without him it's a dog-and-pony show around here.
//Offering a "FREE YEAR!" of TotalFark is kind of dumb, though. These are the people that will be here again. IMHO it should go to either a Liter or someone who doesn't have a TF annual account. Kinds of makes wanting to submit headlines dumb. Six years of Fark and I TRIED to buy one a few times, and either my card was declined or not recognized. Gets kind of annoying.

Legios: AbbeySomeone: Gyrfalcon: HotWingAgenda: Kittypie070: So....it's morally worse to break a dog's leg than to grope-without-permission human females?

Is this what a few of you are telling me?

Violence versus inappropriate touching is a tough comparison.

Groping might be an inappropriate expression of an appropriate sexual response, depending on the boy's age and the type of contact. Deliberately breaking an animal's leg indicates a lack of empathy and a pleasure in causing pain that is never appropriate regardless of the age of the individual. The two together are pretty ominous; this kid is probably unsalvageable at this point and headed for a career in prison.

Some people should just be kept out of society. The kid is a sociopath with no regard for anyone else. He poses a danger.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as sociopath, but antisocial personality disorder would be the first thing I'd think of (or depending on the reasons for their actions, maybe sadistic personality disorder as well?)

/Not quite as familiar with the DSM-IV as the ICD-10 so I think I've got the right ones.

Wow. Where would society be without defintions and categories of acceptable levels of sociopathy and potential danger such as these?
Better question - Where would the social workers, shrinks and educators that so frequently fail be without their structure?
These guidelines are bullsh*t and change frequently along with the latest grant money and political standards.
The kid is f*cked up and he will continue to hurt people. But hey, women are his target so he has more chances, right?

So because there's a lot of shiatful social workers, shrinks and educators (which I completely agree with and have met more than my fair share) that the entire realm of psychology and psychiatry is bullshiat? Can't say I really agree there.

I personally don't really agree with diagnostics since people should be treated for who they are, not because they fit a diagnostic criteria but we were talking diagnostics and the criteria to be pigeon-holed in to a classification system. A lot of countries require a DSM-IV or ICD-10 diagnosis for there to be government assitance (especially if you end up in the justice system). If you can come up with some alternate system that will get the same benefit then I applaud you.

And I'm not sure where the 'women are his target so he has more chances' thing came in to this either. None of those diagnostic criteria require any targetting of a specific gender so you lost me there...

I'm more inclined to think the adult human female can turn around and give the 14 year old a lesson than the chihuahua. Pets are innate victims of humankind's affection or violence, humans are not.

Two. And what's farked up I had met one of their murderers before - he asked me for a light and I pulled out my Zippo and obliged. That one is serving life in prison (no death penalty in that state at the time). I didn't know him beyond that, but he was a friend (or at least acquaintance) of other friends of mine (i.e. lived in the same dorm and got drunk with them a few times).

The serial killer almost got set free, but he's dead now. Link

Neither murder had any logical motive - not even an illogical motive as far as I can tell. Completely senseless and without reason.

Murder victimS?!? What the fark? I kinda knew (as in I knew who she was) one girl who was killed in a random shooting, but I honestly do not personally know anyone who was murdered. Additionally, I was born and raised (and still live) on the South Side of Chicago...

Killer Cars: when he took his mother's minivan and drove up to the Moulin Brew coffee in Yakima, where he crawled through the window and began groping the lone barista on duty.

Jesus, I saw the "groping scantily clad barista" part in the headline and assumed it was more of a "discreet" attempt at copping a feel (not that that makes it okay by any means). If that little motherf*cker CRAWLED out of the car basically into the barista's booth to do it, considering that's a scarily aggressive move, this kid is a serious danger to society. Boys will be boys my ass.

Yeah, this. Impulsively brushing a hand on her would be one thing, this is a whole new level of crazy. Kid should be put away.

With FMRIs showing that the kid's brain was sociopathic, I would throw the switch, push the plunger, kick the chair, whatever. If you could prove sociopathology, I would not hesitate to execute someone regardless of age. The only alternative I would sign on to is if they could cure/prevent sociopathology as the embryo/fetus develops.

Sociopaths are the living incarnation of evil.
