Evil Twin Skippy: By this time in their lives, the boomers went from free-loving hippies to free-wheeling yuppies.

No, you ill-informed fool. The boomers, as a generation, were never "free-loving hippies". The reason that they got so much press at the time was because they were NOT the norm. They were an aberration. An interesting anomaly. While Sunshine and Moonbeam Freedom were dropping acid back at the commune, Rush Limbaugh George W Bush Donald Trump and Mitt Romney were quietly plotting to take over buy and sell the world. It's going to take about 40 years though, for OWS protesters taking a dump on cop cars to be the defining story for the current generation. And then you'll understand.

Trey Le Parc: LordJiro: The problem with that suggestion is, well...

That would be depressingly accurate only if the characters were reversed.

Do tell, skippy. When have the republicans moved towards the center on anything?

When a bunch of them stood in a circle, and a nickle was tossed in the middle. They're surprisingly quick too.

I've lived long enough to see the LA Times devolve from merely bad, to a caricature of California itself. Someone kill it already.

California? I think we were all just waiting for the Big One to take it while we figured out how to goad Mexico into taking Texas back.

Linux_Yes: There are only two kinds of Republicans:

1) Wealthy

2) Fools

That's exactly right. They were the angry bitter squeaky-clean looking kids who were secretly jealous of all their fun-loving, sex-having, drug-taking peers. The sixties were not about them, the clean kids, so they got their revenge by fighting against the sixties ever since.

I know I'm years late with this, but TFA is not a column written by a columnist, but an LA Times staff editorial.

I just wanted the Universe to know that there's at least one reader left who knows the difference.
