I hope Subby knows that this is clearly a satire piece.

Might as well just fold the league. Lose a season every 5 years in the 15th most popular sport? Yea, who cares?

This is the only post in this thread up to now to not be as much of a joke as those Cheap Throat things.

When I do get to bed at night, I dream about running over Gary Bettman with my machine, killing him and forever encapsulating him in ice.

We all do, sir. We all do.

Wow. I didn't know that Sikhs had embraced hockey already. They've acclimated to Canada really quickly.

This is still pretty funny even though a couple moments thought would let any reasonable person realize Zamboni drivers typically have another job for the off season/other days of the week.

That said, if we lose this whole season (likely at this point) March through May will be pretty bleak without Smashville on the tube.

+1, and then back over him and repeat, over and over again.

Who wants Ryan O'Reilly? Make your offers and send some draft picks to the Avs, because they probably aren't going to talk to him ever again.

They also have a Punjabi edition of HNIC:

Not exactly Ron & Don, but they're learning, and fast.

Feild hockey is huge in India and surrounding countries. It made the transition pretty smooth once the basics were explained.

"Do you expect Larry Tanenbaum to give more bad news to Leafs fans? They're Leafs fans for God's sake!"

I chuckled.

It has been said before but it really is the fans that are losing out here. The league and players have lost the respect of the fans. For the average hockey fan, that makes far less than the players or owners it is a contest of bratty rich kids vs greedy parents.

Are these people so out of touch that they cannot see the harm that they are perpetrating on their game? It is not like they are brain surgeons fighting for better instruments and working conditions. These guys are a pile of millionaires and billionaires that argue who should get the biggest slice of the FAN PROVIDED pie.

They are all messed up. The owners claim they provide the platform for the players to be successful and make large salaries. The players counter that it is their talent and skill that give the owners lots of ticket sales and a reason to have a money making platform in the first place.

Both sides drone on about losing fan support and getting a fair deal for their interests. They do not mean a word of it. Neither side does. They want max value and to hell with the other position and the fans. They want to be greedy. They want to be in charge.

I have been a hockey fan since I could navigate my TV to HNIC. I have been to many live games over the years and have paid lots of money to do so. I love the game. Here is the thing that the NHL and NHLPA is forgetting, you are almost completely a gate driven sport. You don't have the sweet TV deals that the NFL, NBA and MLB. Outside of Canada and a couple of American states, hockey is a fringe sport in North America. You need the gate receipts. They are not just good to have, they are a must for your business model. Apparently, the idea of pissing off and driving away your main source of revenue is not activating either sides sense of self preservation. I guess that is what you get when you get insulated by that much money and a heavy sense of entitlement.

Players and owners are showcasing their complete lack of understanding of their market. They both want to vilify the opposing side and blame them for all the troubles. The problem with that is that you have to convince the guy that makes 14 bucks an hour that your league minimum of approx. 800K and that the outrageous ticket prices and 15 year long contracts awarded by management are something worth losing fans for. I doubt they will have much success with that.

I have been a serious fan of NHL hockey for years and years. Not anymore. There is not a single redeeming quality that I can point to that could compel me to pay money to watch these babies skate around in the buildings of these out of touch owners.
