It was unforeseeable if you are a self-centered moron. For anyone else, the idea that actions that could easily cost someone their job in a high profile and public way for no reason but 'pranking' could have terrible consequences is not all that far fetched. Yes of course she would have to be someone in a bad state already to be driven to this by this, but so what? that makes it okay??

People like these DJs damage peoples lives all over the world on a daily basis, it is just that they are usually insulated from the results of their actions by the fact their victims are usually 'nobody'. This time its front page stuff so they will actually suffer for it. They deserve it all.

The name is checked against a list of people the patient has preapproved, and the number is a further form of protection to insure patient privacy.

i've been listening to the k&b show since their early days in the '90s. i remember hearing that broadcast live on the radio. they screwed up back then but have paid their dues and then some. they were actually making veiled references to their own past while discussing the aussie djs last thursday.

/suspect k&b were the inspiration for weenie & the butt. mcfarlane was a frequent guest in the early days of family guy.

I'm in the camp of 'these DJs deserve to be fired and have their broadcasting careers flushed down the toilet' at the very least because they called the hospital pretending to be worried about a sick relative. The nurse had the call transferred to her, she probably figured their identity had already been verified and as unfair as it is, she would be been fired for breaching confidentiality. Seeing these guys get publicly harassed and fired is karma at its finest.

Interesting. I find these kinds of jokes to be not amusing at all. But some people enjoy making innocent by-standers the butts of their jokes, so they can pat themselves on the back for taking advantage of another human being for trusting them.

I don't know about that. It was a prank that went world wide, this isn't some friend or co-worker playing a prank on her. This was two guys playing a prank on her and the hospital as a way to make money by driving their ratings and name recognition.

Occam's Taser: Calm down, Internets. In the first place, a quick read of the article didn't reveal any claims of suicide. Still "unexplained" pending an autopsy. Secondly, the Aussie DJs are douchebags, but would be in no way responsible for crazy old lady suicide.

Look, I have screwed up royally at work before. My VP screamed me down, there was paperwork. It was awful. I never once thought of ending my life over it. Had my screwup been the top story on the news, I would not have considered suicide. If my screwup was on the Main page of Fark.com, I would not have harmed myself. See a pattern? My lack of mental instability means I am not likely to kill myself over anything, much less a harmless work mistake or a prank phone call.

Their prank directly led to somebody making the choice to end their life. If you can't figure it out from there, there's not much I can do to help you.

This is not the fault of the DJ's. The joke was tame and a bit funny, not some cruel prank, and nobody could have foreseen a person killing themselves because of this. There must have been other mental issues going on with this lady for her to crack like this.

They determined that a woman who was in the hospital publicly for morning sickness HAD IN FACT been dehydrated and nauseous and the nurses didn't think that she should be bothered while she was resting. Shocking.

It WAS personal information, but it wasn't embarrassing, hurtful, or harmful. Rap the knuckles of those who slipped up and move on. Prank calls can be very funny. Also very not funny. I thought this one was about as harmless as they come.

There are a lot of people in here that don't understand how the medical field works (at least in the USA, might be different across the pond).

Disclosing confidential medical information doesn't just mean getting fired, it means getting your license pulled. It's not just a job you lose in that case, it's the whole field of employment. She couldn't get a job at another facility with no license. And with that kind of work history, she wouldn't be put in a place of trust for a long long time, if ever, so even cashier is out.

The good news is...... she's finally off her meds.
