But in some ways, O'Connell says, "contemporary culture has all of these ideas about food which might appear ludicrous in time to come."

Any examples come to mind?

Yeah, people say the same shiat about weed. In the future, we'll realize that it was invented so people would stop caring whether domestic duties were getting done or not.

/Don't judge me for pairing a magic brownie with my evening cup of tea already. It's the only reason I can stay mellow about all the oppression dude

FormlessOne: BolshyGreatYarblocks: There's something to this: after some online digging, I've found that apparently Lapsang Soochong is Cantonese for "punch him in the scrotum".

Certainly tastes that way. It's tea for those who like Scotch. Waitaminute...

Lapsang certainly put hairs on my chest.

FormlessOne: Feh. Scotch is just badly-copied Irish whiskey. If those haggis-eaters had spent the time glazing their tiles, we'd never have to worry about sipping a liquid peat fire.

Actually, it is the other way around. The Scots introduced distilling whiskey to the world. The Irish followed in the Scottish tradition, whereas the Brits borrowed from the Dutch. I like a good Irish whiskey, too, but I like a good Scottish single malt best.

jonas opines: Isn't it fairly safe to say that at some point virtually everything women have done that wasn't housework was considered dangerous by some?

Who's to say they aren't right?

Nonsense! Why, I'm drinking green tea flavored with jasmine right now and I think ALL HAIL CHRISTABEL PANKHURST DEATH TO MEN!!

reformers in Ireland tried to convince people that tea-drinking was akin to drinking the blood of slaves who were forced to work the plantations where sugar was produced.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Looks up from glass of Puerto Rican rum (not Bacardi..a more local 'non-export' brand) and sniffs derisively.

Who am I kidding? I will drink a glass of most anything from the scotch / whisky / rum / bourbon family.

reminds me of the old drinking song:
My husband's a mason, a mason, a mason
My husband's a mason, a mason is he
All day he lays bricks, he lays bricks,
He lays bricks
And at night he comes home and... drinks tea.

My husband's a plumber, a plumber, a plumber
All day he screws pipes, he screws pipes,
And at night he comes home and... drinks tea

My husband's a carpenter, a carpenter, a carpenter
All day he bangs boards, he bangs boards
And at night he comes home and... drinks tea

My husband's a jockey, a jockey, a jockey
All day he mounts horses, he mounts horses
And at night he comes home and... drinks tea

My husband's a postman, a postman, a postman
All day he licks stamps, he licks stamps
And at night he comes home and... drinks tea

My husband's a husband , husband is he
All day he drinks tea, he drinks tea
And at night he comes home and drinks MEEEEEEEEEE(-ad)

WhippingBoy: Radical feminism is caused by the indoctrinated belief that under no circumstances whatsoever should a woman be held accountable for her actions. Instead, EVERYTHING must be blamed on an oppressive, hegemonic, imperialist patriarchy that continues to go out of its way to oppress women and other "downtrodden" people (none of which can ever be straight, white men).

I'd make a snarky comment, and I know feminists will tell me that as I white male I should shut the hell up, but yeah...pretty much this.

The uni I went to wasn't extremely liberal, but I did have introductory courses notorious for weighting grades based on perceived privilege. Are you a white guy? Good luck trying to get an 'A'. Do you have stories about hetero misogynists being mean? Do you have stories to tell about Chicago cops harassing you for wearing gang colors while black? You'll do fine. Honestly, I was raised to see the idiocy of discrimination, and figured out privilege on my own; having the reverse discrimination happen to me felt like a slap in the face and just caused resentment.

For the flip side, though, the comp sci department was full of old white guys with math degrees, and you had to be blind to not realize they resented the women and Asians in the program.

My wife gets a lot more done around the house after she drinks tea. Caffeine and chores are a delightful mix.

WhippingBoy: Tea drinking? I think not.

Instead, EVERYTHING must be blamed on an oppressive, hegemonic, imperialist patriarchy that continues to go out of its way to oppress women and other "downtrodden" people (none of which can ever be straight, white men).

They also believe that a bunch of neurotic, irresponsible whiners with degrees in "Gender Studies" will actually affect lasting social reform by biatching about things on the internet, spewing feminist 101 rhetoric, hate-mongering, and shaming (disagree with what a "feminist" says? well then you sir are obviously a bigoted, racist, MRA rape-apologist!).

Last time I checked, Twinings didn't include that flavour in their sampler packs.

Radical feminists don't want> social change. Without social inequality, they lose their cause for revolution, and their misandry would suddenly become taboo.

I also find it funny that Spellchecker identifies "misandry" as a misspelled word but not "misogyny".

Not to mention the fact that the hits on their "blogs" would drop off remarkably.
