I used to work in a nursing home just for Veterans. There were from all branches, all theaters and all conflicts.
There was only one Pearl Harbor survivor. He was involved in the actual combat, not just there. He never talked about it, but the guys who actually saw any kind of combat rarely did.
Any way early one December 6, he had a heart attack and was sent to the hospital.He died the next afternoon, on December 7.
Doing a little math I figured that the time he died coincided with the time frame of the attack.

That is awesome. My grandfather used to make biplanes and mid-wing monoplanes out of beer cans similar to that. He was also a WWII vet, Seabee on Okinawa.

Other grandfather flew bombers. Started in B-26s and finished in B-24s, 63 missions in the 24s. Only guy to survive the last flight. They got chewed up by a couple Zeros, nose gear gave out on landing, planes cartwheeled over it nose. Finished off everyone who wasnt already dead, except him. Spent the rest of his days with a metal rod holding his leg together.

He was the leading Marine Corps flying ace of WWII (26 confirmed kills), Medal of Honor recipient, who went on to be Governor of South Dakota. He also was the first commissioner of the American Football League, and hosted "The American Sportsman" on television. Then he served two terms as president of the National Rifle Association.

I don't doubt this for a moment. There are statistical studies that show a tendency for death dates to be associated with significant anniversaries. Men tend to die before their birthdays, women after. Although you can't stave off the Big Sleep forever, you can evidently have some say in exactly when you go.
