Of course they voted for Obama. If they owned their own property, they'd have seen the light.

There may be protections for businesses that fire employees who voted Obama or that don't serve Obama voters and stuff but I'm pretty sure evicting someone because of a political disagreement is going to get you in actual legal trouble.

Evictions are based on nonpayment of rent or breach of lease.

This is simply a petulant child.

So I guess having competent management, a solid business plan, hiring good people and paying them well to do their job is just out of the question. Good to know

I'd imagine that many, if not most of the people who live in this asshat's properties are in tenuous housing situations, and don't have a lawyer on retainer. Even assuming that you could find an Internet Lawyer to take the case pro bono or on contingency, it still puts you in a precarious position.

Then he added, "BTW: If you voted "Democrat" on Nov. 6, please notify me ASAP so I can raise your rent first to help pay for what you asked for."

It's always difficult to tell, but I think this was an attempt by a "conservative" at snark or humor.

It's whiny, childish, petulant and bullying, which makes it a lot like the "jokes" such people make.

Mentat: He won't do shiat. He's just another loud-mouth bootstrapper that talks tough but never backs it up. He knows he would get sued into oblivion if he tried that.

And when he sent out this letter threatening anybody who voted for Obama with eviction he just made the process that he will have to go through to evict somebody that much harder. When he takes somebody to eviction court all they have to do is whip out this letter. They may not win, but it sure will gum up the works and draw things out, hell you may even find a judge siding with the person being evicted because of this letter.

I wonder if they have a possible lawsuit against this guy for intimidation. Any internet lawyers know?

I'm not sure that falls under any of the forms of discrimination that are actionable. However, it can be argued that the lower rent for Romney supporters amounts to a bribe to force you to vote a certain way, which is a felony.

Oh bother. I was gonna get all up and angry... But there's really nothing there. Just one of those spouting off things.

If he were to actually raise rents on certain tenants based on how he imagined they voted, then sure, unleash the legal dogs, and I'd happily contribute.

But this is just petulance. No one's rent is changing based on voting. Not worth our time.

What an asshole. I'm going to assume this man is a slum lord, in which case his tenants aren't in any position to take a principled stand for fear of being homeless. If rental history were not an issue, I'd love to see a bunch of them refuse to pay rent for several months while they looked for another apartment. Force this douche to start the expensive and time-consuming eviction process for a shiatload of people.

I had an asshole rental agency one time that tried to force me to allow them to show the house while I was still in the process of moving out. Mr teeny was working out of state and I was by myself with 3 kids and the flu was getting passed from kid to kid. I still had two weeks before I was scheduled to be out but they were insisting that they were going to show up with potential renters. The day they were scheduled to show up I set up bug bombs all throughout the house and set them all off just minutes before they all came walking up to the door. Then I spent the evening at my sister's. I felt sort of biatchy but mostly smug. They were the worst agency ive ever had to deal with ever.

I live in one of the poorest counties in NY, where most residents are some flavor of (R), and I take the same precautions. The original reason was the briefings they started doing in the Reserves about not making your vehicle a target for terrorists (yeah yeah, I know, but it was mostly intended for anyone overseas), but after I got a less conspicuous car I continued the practice to avoid road-ragers.

Had a company attorney tell us once that we couldn't use political leanings when making hiring decisions. And, more importantly, that if, hypothetically, it did happen, to not go down on the record with it.

We had incredibly bad experiences with several employees who knew every little ticky tack rule and regulation and would demand they be abided by only to cause the company trouble and cost us money. Always inciting the other employees and stirring up trouble. Calling OSHA and the State EPA in over bullshiat so thin they never came back. Deliberately ratfarking their work to only produce the bare minimum at barely acceptable levels of quality. It was like having petulant little children on the floor.

Then we noticed that all of these problem children were the ones listening to AM radio all day. We knew that because they caused problems with that too, cranking it up loud and drawing their co-workers into the on-air "discussion" and creating a generally hostile atmosphere. Imagine being a middle aged black woman and having to listen to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and some idiot fan of theirs all day long. So we had to make it a vote for each area of the plant and Sean was not heard from again.

I will never hire a hate radio fan again.

Dear GOP, this is why you lost... you hate more than half of Americans, you clamor to secede from the union or default on paying the bills for programs you already voted for every time you don't get your way. You're vindictive, you threaten people with such harsh conditions that they'll self-deport, justify bigger government in the name of religion (but only to intrude on dirty liberal religions that are ok with the gays), fought to increase the payroll tax, and are now fighting to slash social security and medicare so you can keep funding tax cuts for millionaires. You're bitter, angry people who are constantly focused on who you should hate so much that you haven't got the first clue about what the country is looking for in a leader. As a dyed in the wool liberal, I'd like to say good job, keep up the good work.

He can't evict a tenant unless the tenant breaches the lease; I'm sure voting is not covered in the lease.

However, he could refuse to renew an expiring lease because a tenant voted "wrong." That's not a protected status under any fair-housing laws. All he has to say is, "We don't get along" and you're out when your lease is up.

I was just insinuating that I am well aware of the person that I was dealing with (unlike you). My "no offense" comment was a reference to the fact that I meant no offense by suggesting that your intrusion into our conversation was entirely unnecessary. I know him and I know what I am doing. And yes, he uses logical thought. You just might not like it. I disagree with him quite frequently, but he is logical and thoughtful. You might not agree with his conclusions, but you should at least recognize 'thought' even if you disagree.

ive seen krusher be just as irrational and illogical as some of the legends of trolling around here, and seen plenty of sane rationality and even a breakthrough or two of learning on krushers behalf. if you dont like your conversations posted for all to see, and respond to, deal with it accordingly. ive had people that i thought were flaming trolls post plenty of shiat that made me do a double take outside of political threads.

2012-12-07 02:05:19 AM
Then he added, "BTW: If you voted "Democrat" on Nov. 6, please notify me ASAP so I can raise your rent first to help pay for what you asked for."

If it was me, I'd send him a polite letter reminding him of the local landlord/tenant laws about raising rents. I'd also send him a copy of the penal code about extortion. But I'm kind of a biatch that way.

2012-12-07 02:22:00 AM
Back in my landlord days I did something similar.

The city of St. Paul enacted a certification program for smaller rental properties (they already were in place for the big ones) that meant a yearly inspection with a fee of $200.00 per unit per building.

I was operating section 8 units and already had the blessing from the feds as to the livability of my buildings, but no waiver was bieng afforded in the new law for those apartments that had already passed inspection.

Once the new fees went into place I gave a copy of the new rules to each tenant along with their notice of rent increase and provided the name and office number of the council member who had pushed for the new fees, should they have any questions as to why their rent was going up.

dahmers love zombie: GAT_00: That's all kinds of illegal, right? Housing discrimination. So why would you not openly proclaim that you voted for Obama and then proceed to sue the fark out of him.

I'd imagine that many, if not most of the people who live in this asshat's properties are in tenuous housing situations, and don't have a lawyer on retainer. Even assuming that you could find an Internet Lawyer to take the case pro bono or on contingency, it still puts you in a precarious position.

And I'm sure there are plenty of enterprising, hungry, up and coming lawyers in that town alone who are just drooling at the mouth at the opportunity to jump down this guy's throat, get their name in the national press, and sue him for everything he has, including his spiffy little rental properties.

I would be extremely surprised if there weren't a dozen lawyers salivating to take on this case pro bono, not to mention any number of civil rights and housing rights organizations. Talk about a public platform. . . .

really?

then there has to be a notice about not letting dogs crap and piss in the hallways?

Honestly through, no matter what the quality/level of the apartments is, this will always be an occasional problem. People who live in apartments with dogs tend to be inconsiderate assholes/scum. Doesn't matter if it's low end or high end or what state.

Hate complexes that allow dogs.

On the other hand, an acquaintance of mine from work claims he went out to feed the meter on his car in Harvard Square and found it being ticketed despite his arriving at the precise moment the meter ran out. The meter butler refused to cut him any slack and told him "If you're gonna have a Romney bumper sticker, you've got to expect to be mistreated around here." He complained to the city but I'm sure everyone just had a good laugh at his expense. And of course, this may only be a backwards "B" scratch type incident--the guy is an "independent" AND an Apple fan boy.

The gun shops I know about are happier than pigs in shiat that Obama got reelected. Thanks to the paranoid idiots, their merchandise is flying off the shelves.

As for this clown, he's just talking tough. He can't demand his tenants tell him who they voted for, and even if he could, all they have to do is lie. There's no way for him to prove it.

I have a real problem with all these business owners that are saying they need to cut hours, lay off employees, and raise prices immediately because of Obamacare. The vast majority of the law, including the business mandate and taxes, don't even go into effect until 2014. How can you possibly need to do those things right now for something that doesn't even go into effect for more than a year from now? Either they're just lying to try bash the law, or they were already planning on doing those things and are simply using it as a means to deflect criticism. "Hey, sorry, I didn't want to cut your hours and and raise prices, but I had to because Obamacare. Blame the president, not me!"

But he has a point. If you voted against gay marriage, you should not be allowed to be married. If you voted against medicinal marijuana, you're not allowed to take the most effective medication for your condition. If you voted Republican because you want America to fight a given war, you should have to be sent to combat. If you voted Republican in order to bust unions, your retirement/pension should be taken and given to the richest Democrat in your district.

There's real potential in that idea.

Sure beats acquiring and running rental units of their own while providing a real service/product to low income people.

Better to just take it from someone who did take a risk.
