Erm, excuse me whilst I call "Is there a friggin' herd of purebred Angus cattle in your store, because I can smell the bullshiat nearly a thousand miles away" on that claim that he didn't know what an ambulance was.

Folks in Mauritania know what an ambulance is (even if they are privately run). Folks in Dirkadirkastan and Upper Slobovia know what ambulances are. AMISH know what ambulances are. There are probably undiscovered indigenous nations in the depths of the highlands of Papua New Guinea who, despite being so isolated that they have never personally seen an ambulance, have at least heard of stories of strange wheeled boxes called "ambulances" (that make utterly obnoxious noises) from the folks in the village three day's travel across the pig trail who knew someone who saw one of the Noisy Wheeled Boxes Called Ambulances once in Port Moresby taking someone to this place called "hospital".

The only possible way his employees would NOT know what an ambulance was are the following situations:

a) Somehow he is hiring exclusively from a pool of feral children being raised by camels in the wilds of the Sahel, in which case the staff are commended for at least having learned how NOT to relieve themselves on the floor or spit at the customers.

b) Somehow he is hiring exclusively from a hitherto-undocumented and uncontacted tribe of particularly hermit-like Tuareg who have somehow been the sole people not to hit upon the major trade routes in the past thousand years or so, in which case they are to be commended for knowing that a camel is not normally used as an item of trade in Louisiana and for being quite possibly the last remaining band of Tuareg to convert from the pre-Abrahamic "Old Religion". (Perhaps they would be better served writing guides on the Old Ways catering to neopagans.)

c) Somehow he has obtained an exclusive contract with the Nouakchott Care-Home For The Mentally Stupid (motto: "When You're Too Goddamn Dumb To Be Classified As Mentally Retarded, You Can Count To Potato Here"), in which case he is to be commended for hiring the otherwise unemployable and they are to be commended for not relieving themselves on the floor or spitting at the customers. However, we do wish the proprietor would find a HIGHER class of intellectually challenged individuals to put in the employ--perhaps some of the residents of the local "Lifelong Learning Center" whom, even despite the adversity of having IQ levels in the sub-50 range, still know what the derpityfark an ambulance is.

Seriously, about the ONLY way you don't know what the hell an ambulance is involves some pretty high levels of isolation from the rest of the world that make working at a glorified 7-Eleven Not A Realistic Prospect For Employment.

Take 10,000 5 year olds. Ask them to identify an ambulance. Then ask them to identify a vehicle boot. If the ratio of correctly identified ambulances to correctly identified vehicle boots is less than 99.9, this guy doesn't get kicked in the nuts

I think a real smart move would be to hang aroung that parking lot with a portable generator and an electric saw and charge people $25 to remove a boot from their car.

Well, the taking of hostages is permitted in Islam. So they were taking the ambulance hostage in exchange for a fee.

yukichigai: Actually, the Asian driver stereotype comes from, in part, the fact that some Oriental countries number their houses in the order they were built, not their position on the street. In order to find an address there it's often a case of "stare, stare more, stop so you can stare, whoops you missed it back up," and people just take it as normal. That's why you get middle-aged Chinese women stopping in the middle of the damn road all of the sudden, or backing up in the travel lane in rush-hour traffic: they think it's perfectly okay and that other drivers will compensate. And as you can imagine, anyone who learned to drive in that type of environment is not going to be the most considerate of drivers.

I don't see that so much as they seem to be on the edge of control at 40mph. They weave uncertainly through a left turn, seem to be afraid to accelerate on ramps (get you killed quick in ATL) and just generally look like they expend all the effort of an F1 driver just going to the store. I was in China once when a Colonel I was with slammed on his brakes on the freeway, backed up on the freeway and hit his exit. He wasn't a bad driver, skill wise and I don't remember drivers over there being bad.

you are a puppet: Apik0r0s: Sid_6.7: Apik0r0s: There seems to be no ethics in the Arab world when it comes to business.

Hey, look, you're a piece of sh*t racist!

I can't help it if they act the way they do. And I can't help noticing it. I see what I see. I wonder more at the reason behind it than whether or not it's true. Does Arab/Muslim culture make it acceptable to do business like this?

After I moved to Atlanta, I noticed that the people in traffic every day who were trying to kill me were almost always young black women. A racist would simply dismiss them as stupid, but I kept wondering about it, knowing full well that young black women are just as intelligent as any other subset of humanity. I wondered about it for years and then a black woman co-worker said to another girl that she didn't even own a car until she was 25. And that seems to be my answer: that black women are less likely to begin driving at 15 or 16 and their skills therefore suffer. May explain some of the stereotypes about Asian drivers too, learning late.

I'm pretty sure Islam is actually the only religion where where unethical business is a flat out sin (usury)

Only against other Muslims. They can treat the rest of the world like crap.

There is an incredible pile of laws that ought to be unnecessary, passed specifically to address predators like these. So, not only do they steal from all of us, they make our government more and more oppressive.
