Apik0r0s: Sid_6.7: Apik0r0s: There seems to be no ethics in the Arab world when it comes to business.Hey, look, you're a piece of sh*t racist!I can't help it if they act the way they do. And I can't help noticing it. I see what I see. I wonder more at the reason behind it than whether or not it's true. Does Arab/Muslim culture make it acceptable to do business like this? After I moved to Atlanta, I noticed that the people in traffic every day who were trying to kill me were almost always young black women. A racist would simply dismiss them as stupid, but I kept wondering about it, knowing full well that young black women are just as intelligent as any other subset of humanity. I wondered about it for years and then a black woman co-worker said to another girl that she didn't even own a car until she was 25. And that seems to be my answer: that black women are less likely to begin driving at 15 or 16 and their skills therefore suffer. May explain some of the stereotypes about Asian drivers too, learning late.
Arthurgoboom: Local flatbed tow: maybe $60 vs Boothole scam: $110 (i think it was). Take your car home and remove the boot with whatever tools you prefer. That leaves you $50 and 500 karma richer.
Great Porn Dragon: Erm, excuse me whilst I call "Is there a friggin' herd of purebred Angus cattle in your store, because I can smell the bullshiat nearly a thousand miles away" on that claim that he didn't know what an ambulance was.Folks in Mauritania know what an ambulance is (even if they are privately run). Folks in Dirkadirkastan and Upper Slobovia know what ambulances are. AMISH know what ambulances are. There are probably undiscovered indigenous nations in the depths of the highlands of Papua New Guinea who, despite being so isolated that they have never personally seen an ambulance, have at least heard of stories of strange wheeled boxes called "ambulances" (that make utterly obnoxious noises) from the folks in the village three day's travel across the pig trail who knew someone who saw one of the Noisy Wheeled Boxes Called Ambulances once in Port Moresby taking someone to this place called "hospital".The only possible way his employees would NOT know what an ambulance was are the following situations:a) Somehow he is hiring exclusively from a pool of feral children being raised by camels in the wilds of the Sahel, in which case the staff are commended for at least having learned how NOT to relieve themselves on the floor or spit at the customers.b) Somehow he is hiring exclusively from a hitherto-undocumented and uncontacted tribe of particularly hermit-like Tuareg who have somehow been the sole people not to hit upon the major trade routes in the past thousand years or so, in which case they are to be commended for knowing that a camel is not normally used as an item of trade in Louisiana and for being quite possibly the last remaining band of Tuareg to convert from the pre-Abrahamic "Old Religion". (Perhaps they would be better served writing guides on the Old Ways catering to neopagans.)c) Somehow he has obtained an exclusive contract with the Nouakchott Care-Home For The Mentally Stupid (motto: "When You're Too Goddamn Dumb To Be Classified As Mentally Retar ...
Apik0r0s: My Indian friends who run a store by me explained that they don't make money on anything they sell except lottery tickets. Gas breaks even, keeping fresh foodstuffs around actually costs them money. They make a very small amount on gas and alcohol. The lottery is the only thing they really profit on.
Snarfangel: In his defense, he always thought it was spelled ecnalubmAWho knew?
Morgellons: Snarfangel: In his defense, he always thought it was spelled ecnalubmAWho knew?I always thought ecnalubmA was a mountain town outside Seattle?

Patronick313: Saying that every (insert race/nationality) ( insert occupation or activity) that you've dealt with acts a certain way isn't racist, it's an observation. Now attributing that to ALL of those people or those people in that role is certainly racist.Back in my college days I worked at a Hess station near the school for about a year. I can say without memorable exception, that African males over 30 (not African Americans, I mean dudes off plane in the last 10 years) were THE rudest customers I ever had, bar none. I don't think all African males are rude, but in my personal experience in that store it was practically a law of nature.
Apik0r0s: We've got a bunch of convenience stores/ gas stations run by Arabs around here now. They seem to all be scumbags.
RedVentrue: The Stealth Hippopotamus: Set fire to him, and set fire to the guy who hired him! That would be the proper thing to do.I almost bet if someone did a follow up story in 2-3 months the guy would be booting cars for the same company again. Maybe in a different parking lot.
Jamrock: As a Muslim, I can say that is Muslim culture, we strive to follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad (s). He was considered an exceedingly fair and trustworthy man in his time, a businessman but one of exemplary honesty. That's the bottom line.I can't speak for Arab people (or Africans for that matter), because I'm not Arab, but they obviously have a reputation that we all know about. God help me if I sound racist, but it's not totally undeserved.Maybe I shouldn't rant about this on Fark, but as an American, people from Muslim countries (and many others) tend to always want to bend the rules, get a sweetheart deal, and generally cut corners as much as possible to make life as easy and expense-free as possible. A lot of people from the so-called "third world" have no problem nickel-and-diming people and breaking basic rules or decorum such as double-parking people and jaywalking. Plenty of Americans will behave this way as well, of course. On the other hand, some of the same people can be among the nicest and most honest you'll meet.Like I said, in this guy's home country, which looks like a small government paradise, what ambulances they do have are often privately run and are not immune from the bribes and extortion rackets that probably tipify daily life there.
lasercannon: I think a real smart move would be to hang aroung that parking lot with a portable generator and an electric saw and charge people $25 to remove a boot from their car.

I don't think all African males are rude, but in my personal experience in that store it was practically a law of nature.[shrug]When I worked private security, I can say without reservation that the best security guards I had were invariably older African-American males (over 40). They were always on time, worked their shift without biatching and usually without sleeping on duty, and were where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there. Hispanic women were second best. Worst? Young black men across the board. Does that mean anything? Not at all.In the same vein, in my court experience, I've found that middle-aged Middle Eastern men are always very polite and deferential to women in the courthouse. I've never been treated badly by an older Semitic male (Arab, Persian, Turkish) when mediating a case. Younger men are a different story: They are always assholes. Does that mean anything? Not at all.The impression I'm getting is not that there are racial differences, there are AGE differences. Older people tend to be trustworthy, decent, etc., younger people tend to be lazy, assholish, etc. I could be wrong, of course.
Fooby: The solution seems simple enough. A tire hub with a protruding center post about 4 inches tall. The boot is held off the rim by the post. This leaves access to get a socket wrench in there, remove the lugnuts, remove the tire, remove the boot without damaging it, put tire back on, drive away.,Also can be constructed as a two-piece folding clamshell that clamps over the center hub post, covering the entire hub face. If booted, the clamshell can be removed behind the boot to expose lugnuts. Lather, rinse, repeat.
BarkingUnicorn: ICE detained the guy after the local cops cited him. He was here on a tourist visa, not a work visa. This would make a great Simpsons episode.
megarian: fusillade762: He saw the big flashing lights and thought it was the Emergency Doritos Delivery truck? You need to patent this idea and sell it to Washington and Colorado.
