Is anyone in here interested in a Tron trilogy addition, and why? I'm not that enthused. The last one was kinda 'meh.' The first one as kinda 'meh,' too, but it was original with the idea of actually seeing characters as computer programs set in a computerized world.

I saw Legacy mainly out of nostalgia, but I think I'm done. It was a pretty package with not much inside.

I wish that Disney would throw the money toward traditional 2d animation using cels rather than computers.
I miss the Disney Renaissance and movies like Lion King need to come out more often.
Don't get me wrong, I think Pixar, now underneath the omnipotent Disney eye, puts out material that seems like we should be in the year 2030 with the way the final product looks, sounds, appears.
But there will never be a replacement for cel animation, and it's a shame that many of the old cels have been auctioned off individually or destroyed altogether.

Cool.

No other mainstream movie of late has gotten my GF's motor running than Tron::Legacy. I have no idea why, I just held on for the ride.

So is The Dude in this one? I realize both versions of him were sort of killed but you know, come on.

Some Disney suit is a big Tron fanboy. They re-painted the monorails at Disney World when the last movie came out and the Test Track ride at EPCOT is being re-vamped to either directly tie in with Tron or have a Tron-like feel, I'm not sure which yet.

Just turn it off and turn it back on, I'm sure he'll reboot. He's part of the OS.

And maybe a generous portion of Serinda Swan?

Got the first 30-45 minutes worked out for them. Olivia Wilde goes back and Serinda Swan has to put her in the suit. After a proper cleaning that is. Needs a good scrubbing. Never know where dirt could be hiding.....scrubbing.....

Oh yes. Those suits could certainly "accentuate the positive". But the cleanup may take more than 35-40 minutes....you may want to make it a two-parter. But I like where your mind is at.

I'm pretty sure the new Tron was always intended to be a trilogy. Could'a sworn I read that even before Legacy was finished filming.

I'm suddenly reminded of high school awkwardness: walking to class after seeing that hot blonde in the tight white pants who had a locker next to mine. Good thing I packed lunch, I can't go anywhere right now.

Here's the thing I liked most about it: they gave an illusion of physical presence to CGI environments (the "aircraft" near the end is a perfect example). BTW, I love the fact that people that claim to be much smarter than me can't see the parallels to Hitler and the Jews.

As long as Daft Punk is doing the soundtrack again, I don't care otherwise.

I agree. It wasn't high cinema, but it was entertaining, and for one who always enjoyed the original, I thought it was a worthy sequel.

Mugato: Some Disney suit is a big Tron fanboy. They re-painted the monorails at Disney World when the last movie came out and the Test Track ride at EPCOT is being re-vamped to either directly tie in with Tron or have a Tron-like feel, I'm not sure which yet

Test Track has nothing to do with Tron. Not a direct tie in, not even an indirect one. Officially, the explanation is that the new ride is a simulation of what comes from vehicle design choices; the ride is supposed to make you feel as though you're in a computer. However, what people (including those designers of the redone ride) think of about being inside a computer was heavily influenced by Tron, and the end result is you feel like somebody is going to throw discs at the car.

So yeah, it has nothing to do with Tron, but just try to not think of Tron when you're on it. People are going to be saying "I like that Tron ride," and you won't be able to convince them that it's unrelated.

A cameo by the dude would be nice, but I'm in for some CGI Bruce Boxleitner action. Spouse and I love the hell out of that guy, he'll take any job and do it with a grin.

I grew up with the first film and I really enjoyed the second. Like the other guy above, I didn't look for Lear. I looked for eye candy, homage, and Daft Punk, and it sold on all of those for me.

2012-12-06 12:44:34 PM
I was a little underwhelmed by Tron Legacy the first time that I watched it, because the story seemed pretty bog-standard, but upon rewatching it seems like they were going for a religious allegory where you had the computer version of God and Jesus facing off against a fallen angel that was the dark reflection of that word's god. I'm not sure how successful they were with that, but it does make it slightly deeper than your typical action movie, so I do applaud them for that. The biggest issue was that they didn't have the courage to really do anything thought provoking with those religious themes, and it would have been a much stronger movie is they had the balls to be a little controversial.

I assumed they were setting up Dillinger Jr as the villian for Tron 3. It would be odd to go through all the trouble to get Cillian Murphy for a one-shot cameo.

The only problem with the first movie was that the actor they chose for sam Flynn had no onscreen charisma or presence. He embodied Dull Surprise.

The Tron cartoon is apparently doing very well - I can see them wanting to pull that audience into another movie. And maybe they have some Tron 2 merch that didn't sell.

I saw them as yin and yang, especially with the black and white that they wore and emphasized. My favorite thing when watching the movie with that approach is when they both use the same speech to justify completely different things (the In there/out there speech)

Uprising is honestly one of the best things to come out of the recent interest in TRON. Far more interesting than Legacy was.

I miss Babylon 5 so badly. At least that level of storytelling, god knows the effects don't hold up. Don't care, it was terrific at the time.

It was such a groundbreaking show. It's too bad that B5 doesn't have a big enough following where they could do a Blu-Ray version with updated effects by someone like Zoic, who did the Firefly/BSG effects.

Tron: Legacy did not end. It was not a self-contained story. The whole thing dropped off about half-way through the narrative, with all but a giant glowing neon sign saying "TO BE CONTINUED!!"

Since I swear I heard that Legacy was never meant to be more than one step in a sequence of movies, it never bothered me that literally nothing in the movie was resolved. I've actually been waiting for the next film to come out.

I really enjoyed Legacy. Like someone else said up there, I wasn't expecting Shakespeare!

I didn't like that the light cycles were on a "GRID" (which is why I assumed in the first one it was called that).

I didn't like Quorra coming to the real word. I think who ever made the movie didn't pay close enough attention to the original. They're not REALLY people, writers. They're programs!
I liked that Clu THOUGHT he could become real. Hell, it could have ended with him trying to escape in the beam and then just derezzing when he realized he wasn't an actual physical thing (like they did on Star Trek with the holodeck in that one (hundred) episodes.

I enjoyed Tron Legacy and I thought that was an interesting twist on Clu as well. As for Quorra, she was an ISO, which I'm supposing is why should could leave the Grid. If so, that would also explain why Clu and the programs who followed him hated the ISOs--that they were much more like the users than the programs were, and that frightened them.

BTW, if you haven't seen the Tron Uprising series yet, you should. It's a great show.

They didn't forget that, they simply differentiated from the programs and Quorra's people who just kind of spontaneously sprung into existence.
